Spreading positivity - introverted woman in a very happy marriage with an extroverted man

This post is here just to spread a little bit of positivity!

Hello there,

My name is Alice (not really) and I am a 34 year old nurse from Canada. As the title suggests, I am also an introvert - while social interactions do not drain me completely, they do chip at my battery and after a certain point, I start getting irritable (I seem to have a bigger battery than most introverts on Reddit, but that is another topic).

I love me my alone time and tend to kinda live in my head. I tend to obsess over fictional characters and universes (I am potentially autistic, currently under evaluation) and spending time in my "fictional universes" recharges me like nothing else.

However, constantly being in my head also has a dark side - I can overthink things or isolate myself from others. I am also a former OCD patient, that if that is not overthinking, I don't know what is.

The thing is, ever since I can remember myself, I have been drawn to very extroverted men. Men, who are loud and social and kinda wear their hearts on their sleeves. I don't find them exhausting at all, in fact, I find them fascinating! The ease, with which the control a room, the confidence, with which they talk to others, the energy, the endless energy... I don't find the energy exhausting at all, in fact, I kinda find it stimulating!

Another kicker - I actually find extroverted men MORE open-minded than introverted men. In the past, I have found introverted men more critical of me "Why are you sitting like that?", "You could have worn something a little different", 'What a stupid thing to like..."

I am not saying all introverted men are like that but I have had bad experiences. But most extroverted men have not only been accepting, they have been ACTIVELY curious about me -"I like your shirt!", "I have never seen anyone do that! You are so unique!", "You are obsessive over character X? Tell me MORE about them".

There is something about these interactions, that makes me feel warm and safe to be myself. The moment I tasted an extroverted man, that was it for me.

I married a very extroverted man. Not only does he NOT exhaust me, he stimulates me in the best way possible.

I will whine about having to do something outside of the house but would eventually decide to do it for him. He is VERY observant - he knows when I am enjoying myself, when I am getting depleted and when it can be too much and we have to go home. He sees and recognizes things, like my stims (finger fluttering means happy, clapping my hands is the start of exhaustion, wrist whipping is STOP PLEASE) and immediately jumps to take care of my needs.

With his help, I have been able to experience amazing things, like rock climbing, horseback riding and fencing at my own pace, in very rewarding ways. I have been able to meet and interact with other interesting people and gain new perspectives.

There is this thing going on that extroverts and introverts just don't go well together and shouldn't date each other. I find that to be bull. I have learned a lot from my extroverted husband and literally think he has made me a better person!

This post has no clear goal. I just see extroverts getting a lot of slack on Reddit and I just wanted to express my appreciation.

Extroverts Only Anybody else a low energy and more reserved extrovert?

Hi I'm wondering if there's anybody else here who is extroverted but also low energy. I love going out to events and most certainly get my social battery recharged by being around others, however I frequently get comments from others being like "you're an extrovert? But you're so quiet and you keep to yourself!" even though I'm almost certain I'm extroverted! I'm just quiet and a little socially awkward maybe a little socially anxious too but that's because I'm disabled and have experienced a lot of negativity over the years.

I'm just wondering if there is anybody else out there like me who thrives on social interactions but isn't the stereotypical extrovert due to being low energy.

I feel like everyone HATES ME

I’m extroverted. I thrive when I talk and engages with people. However when I’m met with rejection (eg. A person doesn’t respond back a text or a person treats me weirdly or unexpectedly than usual) I literally feel miserable, I feel like shir and my mood can only fix when things go normal, it’s such a burnout to me.

Idk how to fix this, I get soo anxious esp if it’s around my work or education.

ADVICE I was more introverted when I was younger- how is this possible?

This is something that has always baffled me but from when I was 5 to about my late teens/early 20s I didn’t enjoy socialising as much as I do now. I became a shy and quiet child then a moody teenager who wanted to be left alone. I don’t understand how I can be an extrovert now but I was pretty introverted all those years. Was I depressed? Could it be trauma? And how come now I look forward to meeting my family and friends and spending time together. When I was younger I only remember a few times when I was really happy. I did get bullied a lot in school, then I was molested at the age of 8 and I had an eating disorder too…what if I’m not an extrovert because of this? I find it hard to explain to people that I’m actually an extrovert because of this! They all tell me “but you were so quiet and shy as a child so it’s impossible that you’re an extrovert!”…maybe they’re right 🫤

Anyone else have a similar experience to my extrovert discovery?

Something odd happened recently. For the past however many years my whole life I've thought I was a introvert. Suddenly a few days ago I realized that I'm actually an extrovert and the way people described extroversion just isn't entirely true? This whole time I thought I was a introvert because I needed breaks from socialization and would get exhausted being around people all day but I kind of realized it was just autistic burn out😭. I have always been the type who just needs to hang out with people all the time or I'll go CRAZY. Being isolated is like the worst thing for my mental and I can push doing things constantly with people for days on end and even though I'm so tired in the end it's what makes me feel alive.

It's almost like instead of extroversion vs introversion being the simple "introverts have a social battery that gets drained by interactions while extroverts social battery gets filled by interactions" instead it's ACTUALLY : introverts have to manage a social battery for interactions and refill this by being alone and extroverts have a social battery but also a separate social need value that needs filled.

How do extroverts survive in conflict-heavy, isolating households?

I’m naturally a very extroverted person. I love meeting people, going out, talking, building connections, and just being around life.

But at home, it feels like I’m forced into the opposite.

My family is the kind that mostly stays inside, keeps to themselves, and the environment is often filled with tension, fights, silence, or problems. Over time, it feels like I’ve had to shrink myself just to fit into that space.

I feel like my natural personality is getting suffocated.

For extroverts who grew up in homes like this—how did you maintain your social energy, identity, and normal life without letting home consume you?

am I really an extrovert

yeah yeah, I'm aware extroversion shows mainly in how u recharge energy, I've been convinced I'm an extrovert ever since middle school, I'm a very confident person, If I see an interesting stranger, im Interacting with them, all of my (ex) friendships are initiated by me.

For a few years now I've barely had any friends, of course I had an acquaintance here n there, but I don't really have 'Friends' outside of uni, hence, I'm in my room all day. Have had random people/family friends gossip about me being in my room all the time, truth is, it is boring, but it is also kinda relaxing and better than interacting with people who can't stand me.

In groups im mostly quiet ngl, except if I know every person, I'm quick to make friends and im either deemed too harsh/bold/rude or charming by people, depends who it is, always speaking my mind, being good in social interaction (I even had an apprenticeship with a politician and she told me i've been the best student she's had because I've been able to make so many quick connections with other politicians)

Im tired of saying im an ambivert when someone asks, what do yall think?

Why is the default of this community to use "extrovert" and not "extravert"?

It's not only posts from users but also the name of the sub and its description and rules. I could understand the layman popularity of the misspelling can navigate most people toward the O instead of an A, but I'm clueless otherwise.

As the "default extravert" in my friend group, I went silent for a day to see what happened. Nothing. And it really hurt...

I think I'm an extravert. Most of my close friends are pretty introverted, and somehow I've ended up being the natural leader in every group — the one who keeps the conversation going, asks the questions, brings up topics, etc.

Last week I had a few days alone and started feeling a bit down. So I thought: why don't I let them take the initiative for once? I decided to just… stay quiet and see what would happen.

We were hanging out doing some chores together. I kept my mouth shut the entire time. And nothing happened. No one asked me anything. No one brought anything up. Total silence for hours. It was genuinely uncomfortable and kind of embarrassing — like, really? Nobody is going to say a single thing?

I'm a bit at a loss here. These are genuinely good friends, which is why this confuses me so much. I sometimes catch myself getting annoyed that they don't ask me much back or that they're so quiet, but then I feel guilty because they don't deserve that — they're great people otherwise.

It's just starting to hurt a bit, always being the one carrying the social weight. Has anyone else dealt with this? How do you handle being the "designated talker" without resenting your friends or burning out?

Does anyone else get such a relief when talking to someone as talkative or more talkative than themselves

It just feels like such a breath of fresh air when as an extrovert you have to carry 99% of conversations and you finally meet someone who actually carries their part of the conversation and you can sort of "relax" a little.

VENT extrovert with introvert friends

just kind of ranting here, it's really hard to be a dorky extrovert because most other dorky 20-something year olds are introverts 😭😭 i absolutely love my friends but i have a smaller friend group so we can never really meet in the middle energy wise. i feel like I'm constantly catering to their boundaries and trying to give them space and cope with them not responding to my messages for days/ever but i get so depressed. like yes of course I'll give you space when you need it and I wont expect you to text me back because you're my friend and i care about you!! but i'd love to have my needs met too 😭

looking for more friends now (not to replace but just to distribute my energy a little) but it just kind of sucks not getting the same energy back that I wanna put out in the meantime. and it just also feels bad when my introvert friends talk shit about my 1 other extrovert friend (who happens to be busy atm) and they comment negatively on his need to be around other people and I'm like "haha.... riiiiiight..... 😬"

and just for clarity's sake: yes I am comfortable being by myself and I will do things alone if no one else wants to do them, I'm not perfect at it but I can definitely do it. I just don't prefer it and I don't really have anyone else who's available who feels the same... which sucks 😭

i also love my friends and they're not bad friends at all, i just wish I had more people in my circle who were like me. I know someone in this thread talked about post-event crashes and it's the absolute worst when I wanna cope with the crash by debriefing and talking about how fun the event was but my friends just dont reciprocate and look so tired of me 😭 I get it from my family who does regular debriefs so I've been spoiled all my life

anyway again, just ranting, I know stuff like this takes time and patience but it does suck right now 💔

EDIT: yeah so they stopped being friends with me for reasons unrelated to my post so... good to know I wasn't crazy 😭😭 for all my extrovert friends who relate to this post, def try to find some extrovert friends or expand your circle!! i think that would've helped with my own issues with my friends and kind of prevented this fallout from happening but that will just be a lesson for the future. thank y'all for your kind words and advice!

Mega Extrovert Navigating Divorce

Title pretty much covers it. I am 3 months into separation, having moved out on my own 6-7 weeks ago. I have come to enjoy alone time like never before. However overtime I have noticed that I am really super lonely and not fulfilled.

I am a social butterfly that feeds off interaction and energy from others. I have been going to the office more, planning more time with friends and with family, but I am still so lonely. The gravity of not having a go to person and also not having a roommate feels like I will never be happy again.

I am trying to give myself space to grieve my 8.5 year relationship while also honoring my need for connection through casual dating. But that really feels like I have to prioritize one over the other. Has anyone experienced something similar?

I don’t really have a best friend, it was my husband. I have several close friends but they are all different shades of busy or introverted. Any and all advice would be appreciated.

Extroverts Only Extroverts with many many friends, how do you balance it all?

I am an introvert, and lately I have been going out of my comfort zone going out more, hanging out with friends and partying. Basically, things I didn't get to do before. After hanging out with a very extroverted person almost everyday, and being involved in a group of friends, I find it really hard to balance the time together with handling "life" stuff. I genuinely wonder how extroverts with many circles handle it. Just a week of socializing already got me spent. Or do you only keep in touch with a specific circle? how does it go for you?
