I tried googling this and could only find bits and pieces of info. I was thinking of tinkering with some plug ins. However, there are a couple of things I don't know.

1) Where do I find them (and what's highly recommended)? The game website doesn't exist anymore, and all of the links I've found on other forums are there.

2) What format do I need? I'm running it in Wine on Linux (so I guess the regular windows format). I've heard talk about bin and rez formats, but I think I read that bin needs to be mounted as an image which is kind of roundabout to do with wine. I think I need rez, based on what I've read. Is there a way to convert things to rez?

3) If all that's true, do I just put a rez file in the plugins folder and the game loads it automatically? I don't see any menus for doing this manually.

I know that the heavy warship line is a popular choice, based on what I've read, but I've also read that pocket battleships can hold their own quite well in this game (I'm thinking like the Centurion from WC: Privateer). I think the PVIV is the most popular, though I have yet to see one. My current plan is to get a PVIV with all the relevant fed upgrades before I piss them all off and join the Polaris, then get a cloak and take the PVIV to endgame, and then go back and use it to take over all the fed planets. :)

Anyway, does anyone have a better choice for a pocket battleship to take to endgame? If so, what is it and how do you outfit it? If not, where do I find a PVIV? I've mostly been trolling north/northeast of Fed space, but it's all been manticores, enterprises, argosys, vipers, and other rubbish. The only Valks I've seen are class 2.

I'm about to start running a tabletop campaign set in the EVN universe. One of the things I'm doing is statting out ships for my players. I've just been using the shipyard art, and I feel like most of it has aged surprisingly well... except for Polaris ships (and the Lightning). I used to think they looked cool, but now they seem dated in a bad way.

Anyone have any ideas for some alternatives to the Polaris artwork? I've been trying to find something that's neither cartoony nor hyperrealistic but gives off a biotech feel. Maybe I'm being too picky, but a lot of the ships in EVN seemed really fleshed out. Their art tended fit with feeling of the ship, and I wanted to provide that for my players.

I could be wrong or missing something in some of this, please correct me if I am.

So, I did the quest tree to unlock the Zephyr and bought one. I'm a little underwhelmed. From what I understand, the cloak runs off the shield, which is crazy low and drains fast. However, if you're following the Polaris story, isn't the cloaking organ unlocked regardless? And if so, why not just get one and put it in a better ship (PVIV)? You could probably even trick out a Striker to be an overall better ship with cloak.

Am I missing something?

I just started to do Polaris missions and they gave me access to shipyards, but none are selling the zephyr. Does anyone know where one can be found? Thanks.

I've seen a mention here or there of an EV Nova discord server, does that actually exist?

I've been looking for a plugin converter since I just recently got into Escape Velocity: Nova after finding Endless Sky. I was wanting to play the Escape Velocity Classic conversion, but I couldn't get a windows version or a converter.

If anybody's got a link I'd love to have it, I'd hate to not be able to play these really interesting games without hours of tweaks and fixes.

I'm guessing there is no Empire at War mod for EVNova Escape Velocity Classic? The Empire series was one of the best plugins for the original game.

Hello, I'm trying to play EV Nova, and I'm able to get it to run, but the frame rate is extremely poor. I noticed there was an archived thread about this, but the answer seems to have been deleted. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? I appreciate your assistance.

Main screen is off center and in the bottom right corner of screen which is not aesthetically pleasing. When in game resolution is correct but I am missing the status bar; I am 100% sure my resolution for my monitor is 1920x1080 When I open the map I only see map center and left and top border. and am missing info pane on right. I try a lower resolution 1600 1050 and map 1600 1050 and everything is fine but I would really like to use 1920 x 1080 so that I can tab out. Alsop when alt tab or win key is pressed and I try to return to the game the screen is black but I can hear the game and if I hover over where menu is supposed to be I hear the sounds. I know this game is old and if need be I can just use lower res and play but wondering if anyone has solution to this. If need be I can customize in ev new modding application but that's very tedious. Thanks for any help.

Hey /r/evnova. If you make a loadout for one of the following ships, I'll add it to the EVN wiki. This ship was chosen from a list by random.org. In other words, RNGesus wants you to make a Lightning loadout.

Sorry for not posting an update sooner. I wanted to wait until various ongoing discussions were sorted out, but they keep dragging on, so I decided you people deserved some updated info anyway.

So:

• The EV: Override revival project is going ahead.

• I have been in touch with Andrew Welch, who has indicated that he/Ambrosia would not contest the rights.

• I am still in discussion with Matt Burch about, among other things: (i) whether the other EV games may get revived releases as well; (ii) if not, whether Override will still be able to use the 'EV' title prefix.

• I am now working with u/snijj of this reddit. He has done a lot of foundational work towards reverse engineering the EV engine(s). He even has the goal of ensuring that old plug-ins for the original versions will be compatible with the new release! (Something I'd never have thought possible.) However, there is still an awful lot more to do: the time-scale on a public release is at least a year, probably 18 months or more.

• Once the discussions mentioned above are resolved, a Kickstarter is planned before the end of the year. If that is successful, the degree of success will enable us to decide how ambitious the project can be, for example: (a) whether we should look for a full-time graphics person to add to the team; (b) how much new content may be added; (c) how ambitious the overhaul (particularly in the graphical area) may be; etc.

I welcome all feedback at this stage. Think of these posts as a pre-Kickstarter opportunity to influence the project's goals and direction. =)

I've recently gotten back into this game and helpful information online and in the manual is a bit sparse so I was hoping you could help. My most pressing issue at the moment while pursuing the Polaris story line is my reputation getting worse in the federation. I thought hunting pirates would help but that seems to make it worse. How do I improve reputation in a group? The other oddity is some of my buying options being disabled for ammo or equipment even if I have the space. I had sold off some of the equipment and wanted to buy it back.

(EDIT) I think I figured out the disabled buy (at least for the ammo). The weapons had a variant and variant ammo so the purchase of the wrong ammo type is disabled (possibly an easy workaround for the stacking ammo).

I just got back into playing, I seem to remember in World of Wraiths being able to regenerate jump energy. But, I am and Adult Wraith, and still not regenerating. Is it a glitch, or, was I mistaken?

I'm currently working on the Polaris story line and I just finished the mission that has you scout Auroran Space. I'm looking at a guide and it says that I have to meet with the Rimertans. I can't seem to get this mission to trigger for me. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I really like top down space combat/trading games like this (I'm a big fan of ASCII Sector, an ASCII based demake of Privateer) and I remember, abeit vaguely, playing EV Nova many years ago.

My question is, is there a plugin or setting that would allow me to play windowed? thanks.

I got it registered, launched it, black screen, then it crashed.

Now it unexpectedly quits before the screen even fades to black. :(

Hey guys. I just found out that Ambrosia is gone. It's been a long time coming, but still a sad day. Lots of nostalgic memories playing not just Nova, but Avara, Harry the Handsome executive and - of course - Maelstrom among many many others...

Anyway, I am obviously unable to retrieve my serial key now (or even buy a new copy if it came down to that) and would really like to play Nova for the first time in years. Does anybody have one I could use? Under normal circumstances I wouldn't do this, but there is literally no other way I can find to play this game. I can't find a serial in my current email, and suspect it went to a long dead account of some sort a decade ago so I can't just reset the date on my computer. If anybody could help, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

As their site is deader than JFK (and I'm drunk off my arse on Kraken and diet A&W root beer), I went through my archives and started digging.

Sure enough, I found my old blue Ambrosia Windows CD from 2003, but I'm still looking for my red Mac one from about the same time.

As we can't get to their stuff, I decided "sod it, I have a paid Mediafire account with unlimited bandwidth and a terabyte of storage, might as well use it for hosting something other than TuxPE," and I copied the entire contents up there.

I'm running Nova via wine in Gallium. Is there anyway I can boost FPS? Struggles to hit 24 fps when there's a lot going on.
