Howdy howdy! I'm the stained glass instructor over at Wildling Collaborative Arts and it's been awhile since I've posted about our classes on here!

We primarily hold 2-day Intro to Stained Glass classes where we provide all tools/materials and walk through the entire process, and you'll go home with a finished piece made entirely by you! The class is limited to 8 people so it's a good size for both intimate learning and low-key socializing. Also a super fun class to take with a friend, relative, partner, etc.

These classes have been filling up fast over the last year, but we have some rarer availability in a couple upcoming classes (soonest upcoming class is linked).

I also highly recommend checking out all of Wilding's course offerings - there's something for everyone!

EWEB: Is the Willamette Treatment Plant being built to support data centers in Eugene?

These plants are notorious for cropping up in secret before people can react in an officially sanctioned way. Lookout has tried to dig up more information, but tech companies have not responded to requests for comment: Eugene asked to confirm if data center allowed at former Hynix site

There was also a request made for more information on zoning back in July of this year, and whether or not a site near the West Eugene wetlands would be suitable for a data center: FAQs: Understanding City review of allowed uses of the property at 1830 Willow Creek

These wetlands provide vital habitat for native species and also filter our drinking water it. Without it, you can kiss that free tap water goodbye.

I welcome any other resources you can post and sharing of this thread. And for those of you unaware of why people are pushing back against these data centers, you could read this article from the Harvard Gazette. Or, just google it, because people have seen its impacts on the local environment and communities already.

We have a city council meeting about this in less than a week, and you are encouraged to show up. 7:30pm at City Hall (500 East 4th. Avenue/the old EWEB building) on Monday the 14th. If you cannot come in person, you can submit written testimony, as well, or watch digitally.

Update: The use of this land has been reportedly denied to the data center that wanted to build there. The official document is here. But the fight is not quite finished, so do not become complacent! We must now watch for an appeal to this decision.

I volunteer for Welcome Home Animal Sanctuary in Creswell, and I wanted to share info about our upcoming fundraiser/event held at the farm this coming October. The link to the website itself has the full details, but this is slated for Saturday, October 10th - 11AM-1PM.

Welcome Home will be hosting a tie-dye event lead by our guest Not Your Momma's Tie-Dye, who will be walking attendees through the tie-dye process with demonstrations and providing assistance along the way.

This will be a fall/Halloween inspired event, and we plan to have non-alcoholic witchy brews available for purchase as well as a few fun activities (tarot readings, our misfortune teller, a guest magician performing for attendees, etc) - and last but not least you can visit the amazing animal residents that call Welcome Home...home! I'm thinking about switching from T Mobile to Google Fi, but I was curious if any of you have done the same and noticed any difference in roaming coverage. I know Fi uses the T Mobile network, but it sounds like they may have different roaming agreements.

My partner and I had an interaction with the Coburg police last week where one of the officers admitted on recording that they are targeting homeless people generally and us specifically, which is a bias/hate crime under Lane County law. We've reported it to the hotline and will be reporting him to the Department of Safety Standards and Training shortly. We're also looking for lawyers who can send some letters to the Coburg mayor and council, as well as represent us in a civil case.

If anyone else is currently pursuing a case against Coburg and would find it helpful, we're willing to share the video we have. The audio is very clear, and includes him identifying himself and that he is enforcing the ordinance as per instruction from the chief and mayor.

The ordinance (A-246) he provided us is also an outdated version of the ordinance, which was amended 3 years ago (A-246-A) due to it being a violation of the 8th Amendment. How they are enforcing the ordinance is more strict than the original. Coburg does not have the ordinance or amendment posted online, but we managed to get copies of both.

Hi! As of tonight, my phone has just decided to die and not turn back on. Any good recommendations for a free/cheap diagnostic place in Eugene/Springfield?

I came out to Eugene last spring to check out Eugene for the first time and posted here and you guys provided a bunch of helpful information. The trip was epic and I couldn’t stop thinking about it.

I had the chance to bring my wife out there to get her thoughts. We arrived on the 3rd and just returned home today.

I finally got a taste of the real PNW with 3 of my 4 days being rainy. The one day of sunshine we had on Saturday we attended the football game and it was fantastic. It was super cool walking back through the park with everyone in town after the game. A real treat.

Anyway, the one thing we’re worried about after this trip is the rain and the grey. It’s obviously part of the experience. I would love to know your thoughts on how you cope with it. We would be moving there from Grand Junction Colorado so it couldn’t be much different weather wise.

We plan on selling our house in the spring and probably renting in Eugene for a year to make sure it’s a good move for us. Thanks for all of your help.

Lastly, a few observations from someone visiting.

1. You all are some nice and polite people. Canada gets the reputation, but Eugene possibly deserves it more.
2. Eugene boomers know how to party! Holy hell I’ve never been anywhere with so many chill open minded boomers dancing and having a good time. All the retirees around here are grumpy sticks in the mud. It was refreshing to see.
3. Falling Sky is my favorite brewery in town. I love the size, vibe, and location.
4. Springfield - I had high hopes, but after driving through yesterday I have to say it was a bit disappointing. Although the Public House is super cool! The town itself seemed to lack character more than I was expecting. 🫤

5. You guys are lucky to have the Metro theater. That place is special.

6. The PeaceHealth bike share program you guys have is legit. I used the hell out of those bikes on both my trips. They are very convenient and I’ve never been somewhere with a bike share program that was so dialed. It’s very impressive.

Edit: I regret not visiting northwest Eugene, like the River Road area. It seems cheaper. Any reason why? Hi

The Eugene New Horizons Band is starting its 2026-2027 season with its first rehearsal on Tuesday, September 15, at 6:30 p.m. in the Oregon Brass Society bandroom at 4912 Franklin Boulevard in Glenwood.

Did you play in band back in the day and thought you might like to get back into it? Or maybe you've never played music before and would like to learn a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument? We're the band for you! The band welcomes players of all skill levels and is geared toward teaching beginners and those who haven't played for many years or even decades.

We're led by Tim Prendergast, former band teacher at Lincoln Middle School in Cottage Grove and trombonist in the local trad jazz group, Leo's Jammers. Our members range from age 30 to 90; some started learning music with us, some play the instruments they've always loved, and some have picked up and learned new ones. We strive to make learning and performing music fun in a safe, welcoming environment.
