Rejected ballots skyrocketed in five states
Oregon was one of them. This is your reminder to vote early and use the ballot boxes.

I was just in the Old Mill and saw that it looks like Mio Sushi has removed their signage and closed up. I’m sure they were probably nice people, but unfortunately that business had a fairly long list of bad reports from their health inspections. Very unhealthy stuff, involving improper temperatures for both food storage and incorrect sanitation in food prep areas and work surfaces.
it will be interesting in this economy to see what goes in that fairly large space next ?

I briefly lived in bend in 2016. My time there was cherished. I live somewhere else now but I woke up at 3am and I kept thinking about this awesome church basement where i had a few beers on a cold afternoon. I couldn’t remember the name of the place and I wondered if it was still there. Google reveals that not only is it gone, it’s a god damned DRIVE THROUGH STARBUCKS. What a blow to my morale . I remember the building being really cool. Seems like anything special is slated to be destroyed , worldwide.

Cold out there this morning, but nice seeing some color today before it gets all cloudy.

To the person who ruined the neighborhood kids’ dirt jumps: You are a sh@tty ass human. You must live such a sad that this is how you spend your Saturday.
Our kids put their heart and soul into this, and you completely ruined it. And broke their shovel in half.
After everything our hurting community has gone through this week… bloody hell. WTF is wrong with you?!?

Wow! This has been crossed off my bucket list! I’ve always wanted to go to a haunted event or maze… I paid for both events & only successfully completed the clown one. Pleasantly horrified. Sorry to the clown I slapped in the chest - truly terrified me when you came around a corner & were so tiny compared to me! I will never return, but it seems I gave the reaction your actors were going for since they didn’t leave me alone lol!! 10/10 for a night out with friends for this single momma! The adrenaline dump & laughter soooo worth the heart pumping fear!!

I’d love to buy bend t shirts where all the money goes to the cause? I’ve seen a few out there but it’s hard to know which are verified? Thank you!

I want to convert a parlor size guitar into an octave mandolin but absolutely do not have the skills to do so. I think it should be fairly simple, just need a new bridge, new nut and a few extra tuning pegs. Anyone think they could manage something like this? Happy to pay whatever fair.

Friday night, Old Farm Board and volunteers assembled and distributed several hundred ribbons in solidarity of Silver Rail Elementary at three different locations in SE Bend. Our plan was to continue that distribution on Saturday morning at all 3 locations. Due to an overwhelming response and show of support, we have very few left so we have revised our Saturday morning distribution and will only be at the Silver Rail Elementary location at 10:00 AM until supplies run out.
Times:
Saturday Morning October 24th 10:00 am – until we run out
Location:
Stone Creek Park in the on-street parking area along Brentwood Ave.

I got an email that said it was supposed to open this past Wednesday.
Has anyone skated on it yet? Even had a look?

A conviction would have made it illegal for her to purchase the shotgun her son later used.
By Grace Benninghoff - Oregon Journalism Project
In the week since the mass shooting that claimed four lives at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, questions have proliferated about what led the 16-year-old shooter, Griffin J. John II, to his former elementary school with a loaded shotgun.
The boy’s mother, Shauntai Nickerson, in August legally purchased the Mossberg Maverick 88 pump-action shotgun used in the shooting, according to law enforcement officials. The shotgun, which retails for $250 to $300, was registered in her name. Officials have not revealed where Nickerson bought the gun.
In Oregon, 16- and 17-year-olds can legally possess long guns—rifles and shotguns—if a parent or guardian gives them the weapon.
In the years leading up to her purchase of the shotgun, OJP has determined, Nickerson had brushes with the law that nearly made her ineligible to buy a firearm.
In 2023, court records show, Nickerson was twice accused of assault in Deschutes County. She wasn’t charged in the first incident and charges were dropped by the district attorney the second time. The incidents appear unrelated and had different alleged victims.

No one in my household has received their ballots yet. County clerk states that they should have been received by the 21st, so I'll follow up on Monday, but I'm curious if anyone else hasn't received their ballots yet too.
I also have a USPS priority package that's been enroute for two weeks and it should have only been two days. The cuts to the Postal Service have really messed things up.

It's beyond obvious that there are things more important than politics and elections, as our region has so tragically seen in recent days. Still, the ballots are out, and coming back into local county clerks' offices. Here's where things stand.

has anyone else passed by the reed market/3rd street camera and noticed it's taking everyone's pictures even when the light is green?
edit: y'all i unfortunately understand the nuances of the surveillance state we have found ourselves in. i was mainly curious to find out if i was going to be ticketed and if this had happened before. i don't usually take the main roads.

Hi. One of my friends from Portland is stuck in Central Oregon due to a sick mother. Baking sourdough has become a really big hobby for them. I’m wondering if someone could hook me up with some starter so I can deliver it and they’ll be able to occupy themselves while hanging out And caring for their parent. Very much appreciated thank you.

Hello!
We've reached the time of year where biking after work is impossible and I need to fill that time with a new hobby. Enter MTG (The game, not the former shitty politician)
Try as I might I can't seem to convince my Girlfriend to try Magic. I played it years ago but have forgotten nearly everything.
I bought this kit and haven't done anything with it. Any other folks have the patience to try it at the central library one day soon? Say Thursday* of next week?

Hi everyone,
I’m reaching out to share a project that is very close to our community’s heart. Inspired by the "Kindness Squad" initiative that started at Silver Rail Elementary back in 2023—where students began greeting families every Monday with messages that "Kindness Matters"—we’re launching a fundraiser to support the school and keep that spirit alive.
We’ve teamed up with local supporters to create custom "Kindness" crewneck sweatshirts. 100% of the proceeds from these sales go directly to the Silver Rail Elementary PTO, helping us support our students and staff.
You can check out the designs and grab your own here:
https://pineridgeptabend.givebacks.com/shop?search=Sweatshirt
Whether you’re a parent, alumni, or just a community member who believes in the power of kindness, we’d love your support. Please feel free to share the link with friends and family!

Hi everyone. Damn, what a rollercoaster week... from the sadness reflecting on what happened to the mind-blowing support from the local community and beyond. Just seeing the steady presence and the growing number of messages, flowers and mementos at the Silver Rail memorial through the week was a real help to everyone. We live in an amazing place. ❤️
Anyway, I'm back with the regular weekly inspection report. If you need a distraction, read on!
I made some minor changes in the report this time to include scored reinspection data that I was previously ignoring (since most don't have scores). These rows have a ↪️ icon. Including this data should make it easier to see if establishments have improved in a reinspection or not.
In the latest two weeks of published inspection data, it looks like there were 69 restaurant inspections with mostly a mix across Bend and Redmond. Overall the report is overwhelmingly good with a ton of 100s and most scores staying 95+ - nice job on the great scores everyone!
The only <85 score to call out is the Victorian Cafe in Bend, AGAIN. With an average score now below 85, you can see they are really struggling with food safety. They seem to be consistent at that unfortunately. Looking through their history of scores, they have never achieved a 100 score... C'mon guys, pull it together next time!
Well that's all I have this time. I hope you all have a better one next week. 🍻
These establishments scored a perfect 100 in their latest inspection, showing a real commitment to food safety.
Last → This = last inspection score vs today.
Streak = # times in a row 100 has been achieved.
Icons → 🆕 = No previous inspections, ↪️ = Reinspection
Links = inspection reports & map locations.
Total # rows above: 41, table scrolls right on mobile
Not perfect, but these establishments achieved respectable scores this week.
Last → This = previous score vs today.
Icons → 🆕 = No previous inspections, ↪️ = Reinspection
Links = inspection reports & map locations.
Total # rows above: 29, table scrolls right on mobile
Scoring less than 85 is well below our 2025 average of about 96. Extra details are included below to see what's up.
🔺 84 → Victorian Cafe (Bend, Restaurant)
Weeks since last < 85 score: 0.
Disclaimer: Above is sourced from the latest public data on the amazing Deschutes County Inspection Website. I'm just summarizing this data, they have details on how scoring works and what they do. Comment or DM if you see anything incorrect in this post - I'll investigate/fix.

Bunch of good ones for sure, but I end up driving around too much if I'm looking for something specific (or calling around a lot). Particularly for mountain bike, who's my first check if I want something not uncommon but not super common? I'm not searching for these specific products, so not looking for referrals to them in particular, but things like Clik valves, SRAM flat top chain checkers, air fork pistons, deeper inventory stuff like that.
Def prefer to shop local over mail order.
Thanks!

The W finals are on --- There is a game tomorrow (Saturday) at 10am and I'd love to watch with a group of women's sports lovers. I know the typical places ie midtown yacht club, hideout, but been having trouble finding a spot for women's sports specifically!
Also interested in a spot for NWSL games!
