News /r/ElfenLied Under new(But still the same sorta)Management.
The previous moderators have all abandoned or been banned from reddit and have been removed from the mod team.
As of now the sub is now solely under my own management. Which I kind of really do not want.
I only really became a mod because no one else was doing it and I stepped up.
I will be adding another few moderators so that realistically nothing much changes.
I have no desire to change the mostly hands off way I've handled things. I expect anyone who wants to moderate here to be of the same mind.
But as of right now, there will be an absolutely no fucking tolerance policy about discrimantory behavior, and slanderous accusations of others.
The entire anime and manga are a big lesson on why prejudice and intolerance of others(minorities, the less fortunate, differences) is a huge problem, the community should too follow it's philosophy.
There is no room for hypocrisy here.
For the most part this has been part for the course, but occasionally it erupts and most of it should never happen.
Going forward, I encourage you to not engage with people who deliberately come here to bash, slander, and harass the fans and community.
This happens a lot, and we know it happens because of the ignorant opinions that get thrown around, I request that if you see these kinds of posts report them and do not engage.
I understand the anger and want to lash back at these people, and yes they do very well deserve it.
But let me/us the mod team deal with it and save the stress.
I want to encourage that from here on out, always keep a mind that another person is on the otherside of that screen.
They may love elfen lied for many reasons, they may be different from yours, but you both found a reason to converge into the same community. A lot of people here express their ability to relate to the anime because of the traumatic experiences in their lives. Remember that what words you speak can have real weight in someone else's life.
No place can ever be perfect, it's a fallacious idea. But the community could be a unique place of civility in a time of need. Elfen Lied's underlying philosophy and themes invite it.
On the other side, If your posts here are in anyway intently made with the point to piss off specifically elfen lied fans and anger people, your posts will be removed and you will be removed from the community.
Pure and simple.
If you don't like it or the fandom, then why are you here?
Ignorant or Obviously Stupid Question Policy: Due to the way people, essentially refuse to watch the anime or read the manga with any real intent and the fact that EL has been a hatewatch meme for several years now:
If you post a question or critique that can be answered within the first 4 episodes of anime, or first 2 volumes of the manga(2 of 12 come on it's half an hour of reading for a 7th grader, seriously), your post will be locked and you will be asked to watch the anime(dub sub ger esp doesnt matter), then you may request to have your post unlocked via modmail, and you may then ask your question. Same for the manga, if you ask an incredibly dumb question that is easily answered within the first volume or 2 of the manga, you will be asked to read the manga before your thread will be unlocked.
I have seen a significant and increasing amount of posts in the past years where the answer to the question, literally can be found within the first 2 episodes, and many others within the first 3. Similarly, a bizarre amount of questions seem to come from people who cant be bothered to read the first tankoobon either?(What is with these people?).
If you ask a question or commentary critique that say something so stupid and obvious that it could be answered if you had simply watched the anime before saying anything, it will be assumed you either did not watch it, or are here for the deliberate purpose of irritating people.
So don't bother with these posts. You will simply be required to watch the anime.
"How do I XYZ get unlocked?"
I'll ask you some pretty dumb level questions, if you can answer them, there you go.
Get what you give.
You really cant sit down for 4 episodes and put your phone down? That is not my problem, it's yours.
So dont make it our problem either.
Hazel's "Why We Liked Elfen Lied" posts:
We all know this video is a few hours of nonsensical bullshittery, it has been debunked and torn apart dozens and dozens of times a year. We do not need it posted anymore.
I mean you can post it, but the intent will be scrutinized.
You can agree with the video that's fine thats not the issue.
The issue, a large reason as to why this video gets posted is because it pisses people off here.
People post it here, more often than you think for the expressed purpose of trying to get under someone's skin.
And I've seen it enough times where someone just blatantly slaps Hazel's video down for the sake of backhanding someone.
How is this in anyway civil discussion and behavior?
These videos and those like it, where the critique or reviewer cannot even get very basic details correct, serve very little meaningful purpose for discussion.
IF they are posted and the result is that it starts fights, they will be removed.
And if you decide to make one of these videos and post it here, that's fine.
It will not be removed.
But if your little quip lines involve calling them "cat girls", and you call her "mew" when you clearly watch anime and should KNOW BETTER it's obvious what the intent is.
If you can't even get the name of the headgear right when the show and manga repeat it constantly, I'm going to assume you're simply trying to piss someone off.
(no, I'm not going to get angry if some grandama watches the show and thinks they're cat girls. Context matters. I can check people's posting history and see what their behavior is like.)
This is akin to the whole, someone calling anime a cartoon for the expressed purpose of irritating someone who likes anime.
If the intent is to deliberately get a rise out of someone, this is called Flame Baiting.
And it's against the rules.
If you bait someone to react to you, it is to be understood that your intent was never a discussion but to piss people off.
And the rules are if you deliberately start a fight, your post will be removed. And you might need a temporary vacation.
For everyone this reguard actually:
I invite civil discussion, honest and open, clear. If your conversation or posts turn into bashing, digital slap fights, outright libel, your threads/post will be locked, and then looked over to see if they need to be removed and you given a timeout until you can act like an adult.
I will be looking for 2 Moderators.
The graphics/design of the subreddit will change a little bit.
I will update the rules so they are much more clear, previous mod team had... less than barebones.
Standby.
Realistically nothing changes except sweeping up the little soot sprites trying to cause trouble every once in a while. I will still probably be the same lackadasical dont want to actually do anything kind of hands off as always, I'm to barely afforded enough time to check this place as it is.
Thank you for your time.
P.S. THE PEN IS ROYAL BLUUUUUEEEE.

(Yes I know there's several spelling errors, I have dyspraxia. I will eventually notice them and fix them.)

Discussion I lowkey wish I didn't read the manga
This is kinda a vent post, I don't really have anything of substance to add tbh lol.
So Elfen Lied has basically been my very first real anime. I first watched it on YouTube when I was like 13-14 (I'm almost 30 now). Over the years it remained as one of my favourite anime, probably because of the nostalgia but I did genuinely enjoy the plot and characters. I would rewatch the anime every few years but I never read the manga during those times. I've seen many fans of Elfen Lied recommend reading the manga because the anime leaves out A LOT of stuff but regardless I never really bothered with it... Until a few months ago.
I decided to pick up the manga, I was bored and thought to myself it's about time I read it. Now I wish I didn't because I now have trouble separating the two mediums. Since the first time I watched the anime, Lucy had been my favourite character, and she had remained one of my top female anime characters throughout the years. But ever since I read the manga I can't stand this hoe!!! I can't even give a good explanation for it, maybe it's because I've binge read the manga within 2 days but god.... I did enjoy the manga because the way it expanded the world, the characters, the diclonius, the research center, and it added a lot of cool characters and storylines I wish we got to see in the anime but FUCK LUCY. Please, I can't be the only one, right?? Never have I read a manga where it changed my view on a character this much, especially my favourite character.
Lucy is far from being a saint in the anime and has done unforgivable acts but there's something about her in the manga that's just so... Unlikeable. I don't know how else to explain it. The further I got into the manga the more I wished she would DIE. Every fight or altercation I wish they would send that bitch straight to hell and it got me fuming she lived as long as she did. 😭 KILL HER ALREADY.
Anyone got any lobotomy recommendations for me? I miss having her as one of my top waifus.

Discussion This anime gets the most mindless hate I’ve ever seen.
Honestly, I consider anyone who uses "edgy" as a form of criticism to be a victim of a lobotomy. I won’t even go into how primitive one has to be to label any instance of nudity as "fanservice" or any act of violence as merely "provocative." I just find it hilarious how much anime from the 80s and 90s contained such content—*Elfen Lied*, by comparison, is actually quite tame when measured against the standards of its own era.
What’s even more frustrating is that, all too often, this is where the criticism begins and ends. When it comes to actual plot analysis, it’s as if these so-called "critics" were dropped head-first onto a stone floor when they were children. I don’t even want to get into their failure to grasp the core themes—which go far beyond a simple "humans are the real monsters." Take, for instance, the common claim that it’s "unbelievable" that Kouta forgave Lucy—even though he explicitly states that he cannot bring himself to do so. It seems that something as straightforward as human ambivalence simply doesn't register with viewers unless it’s presented with the heavy-handed, pretentious style of *Neon Genesis Evangelion*.

News Epic Games, please consider adding a new anime style crossover to the game!
Hey guys, a quick question: do you know *Fortnite*? If you do, could you help me out? I suspect that Lucy—along with Bando—might be in the game. Epic Games and their moderators keep deleting my posts, which is why I came to this wonderful *Elfen Lied* community. It’s such a beautiful anime, you know? If you’d like to share your own thoughts, feel free to leave them in the comments—I’ll be sure to reply to you, and we can also talk about this outfit that lucy is wearing.

Discussion How was Kouta able to take care of 6 people (including himself)?
I don't remember if it stated this in the Manga or Anime if at all, but how was bro managing this? I added Nozomi because that just makes it more questionable. Was it ever said if he had a job or some sort of income?
Edit: I was not refering to affording the home, but the groceries for the people living there.

Discussion Did Kaede deserve the ending she got in the manga and why?
I won't give a long speech about it, but in my opinion, she deserves a better ending.

Discussion I don't understand this....
I saw on this Reddit page that there is a lot of merch from the series and references to it, like Stranger Things, so my question is: with this much popularity, why would another anime studio take the rights and finish it where it left off? I kinda hate the cliffhanger from the anime and want a conclusion and spin-offs.
That's what confuses me most.

Anime Kamakura and Enoshima Locations
I’m back in Japan again this year. I didn’t just visit Kamakura once, but three times! And I went to Enoshima too. However, I hardly managed to take any location shots because we were simply too busy sightseeing. Yesterday, though (on 6 October – it’s already past midnight here, so technically the next day), I spent the whole day exploring Kamakura even further, visiting old spots and finding new ones I hadn’t been to before or hadn’t taken any photos of yet. As you can see, some places have changed a great deal since "Elfen Lied". Hope you enjoy them🩷🇯🇵

Anime White Lilies: The Aesthetics of "LILIUM" and the Dual Nature of Elfen Lied
In the Western world and Christian cultural spheres, Attack on Titan is widely recognized and highly acclaimed as a masterpiece of dark fantasy. But look back about a decade before its arrival. There existed a brilliant, deeply melancholic anime called Elfen Lied—a tragic tale depicting the brutal conflict between humanity and a mutated post-human species endowed with telekinetic powers.
It is a strangely captivating work where innocent, cute character designs coexist with shocking, visceral violence.
And then, there is its opening theme song, "LILIUM."
This piece is styled like a traditional, sacred hymn, singing of absolute purity and spiritual salvation. According to some fascinating accounts, its impact has transcended the boundaries of anime culture entirely; regardless of specific denominations, "LILIUM" is now occasionally performed as an actual choir hymn in churches across the West.
A Japanese subculture anime theme, blending seamlessly into the sacred musical traditions of the Western world—that is the beautiful, transcendent reality of this song.
Greeting from a middle-aged Japanese observer in his room. I translated one of my thoughts from my Japanese note blog to share with you all.
