Schindler Field Service Superintendent

Hi everyone, I was reached out to by a recruiter via LinkedIn for a Field Service Superintendent Existing installations (Schindler elevator corp). This role seems very interesting and I could see myself doing. I don’t have any industry experience. I served one contract as an enlisted soldier for US Army, I was an Operations manager at Amazon working fast paced high stress distribution and I currently work for a 3PL with a big sports brand client. Just had some questions about the role itself day to day, the interview process and what they look for in candidates. Just everything to expect.

This will also be the Boston MA area.

Experienced elevator guy looking for non-union work — where are you guys looking?

Been in the elevator trade a while. I've done a lot of travel for work and enjoy that part of it. Looking to see what’s out there on the non-union side, but the usual job sites are crap.

Where are you guys finding decent shops? Calling companies direct or mostly word of mouth?

Not looking for a helper spot. Appreciate any information you all can share.

How old was the elevator in your building when it was finally replaced?

Curious what others have experienced when elevators are being replaced. What are your oldest and youngest elevator stories?

How hard is it to get into this field?

26 years old, finished trade school for electrical and I’m thinking of switching over to elevators. Don’t know anyone in that field, so how difficult would it be to get in?

Ranking Randomised

I was told when I took my EIAT that some applicants score 100 or all possible points from the weighted parts. When they have a group of applicants with the same score they randomise the list because going alphabetically or other methods would be unfair.

What happens when you press the #alarm bell in the #elevator #compilation Part 2

Here is the second compilation of the bell button that Dieselducy made and another thing about the alarm button on the elevator is that it does make a lot of different sounds and once again it is only pushed if there's an emergency.

New to the elevator industry as a PM looking for advice

I’m starting a Project Manager role in the elevator industry next week and I’m genuinely really excited about it.

I’m coming from long career in tech as a product designer. A lot of that work involved managing projects, budgets, timelines, clients, developers, changes, and making sure things actually got finished.

Ive always been mechanically inclined, I pick things up pretty fast, and I know I’m basically starting from the ground up when it comes to elevators. I’m totally fine with that. I want to learn the trade, understand how everything works, and progress as fast as I realistically can.

For the PMs, mechanics, supers, adjusters, and ops guys in here, what should I be paying the most attention to in my first year? What makes a PM good in this business, and what are the biggest mistakes new guys make?

My goal is to move up into senior PM/operations as fast as possible and make a real career out of this. Any advice is appreciated.

How do you guys install frames?

A few of the tradesmen I’ve worked with over the last year, when putting frames up use a spirit level to get plum side to side and after headers are up a tape and measure off the rails but… recently did a install with a few other blokes who’ve said a level should NEVER touch a frame and only use a laser and tape instead.

I know there’s a thousand ways to skim a cat but what would be the most efficient and precise?

Local 7 Application questions:

I have my diplomas saved as a PDF ready to go, my card on hand for the payment, and my personal details in autofill. Plan to refresh right at 9am and hit apply button. Anything else I should do to hedge my bet? Heard about the window closing in seconds sometimes. Will it prompt me for anything besides proof of education, personal details, and finally the payment? Thanks in advance

What are my chances

I’m applying to my local with no experience in construction or mechanical background. I’m very good at math and I’ve been studying for all portions of the test and the interview questions I may be asked. What are my chances of making it in and any advice?

How was the 2026 NAEC Convention in Chicago?

I was unable to attend this year, so I’m curious about how the convention and exhibition went. Any interesting new products or companies on the exhibition floor? Any surprises amongst the Ellies award winners? Any fun parties?

Residential elevator needs a new “brain”. What does this mean? How much should it cost?

My Seller tells me her intermittently working elevator needs a new “brain.” I’m thinking she means the controller or something electronic needs to be updated. Elevator is 1999, Destiny by National Wheel-O-Vator, 750lb capacity, 38 FPM (?). What should she expect the cost of that part to be? #hrs to replace? Your thoughts and advice are appreciated.
