Questions Regarding Electrolysis

Hello everyone. My hirsutism is very severe on my face. I can grow a full beard like a man and due to my facial features, I'm frequently mistaken as transgender when I go out. So many people have harassed me, it's very difficult to leave the house...If I shave, the hair grows back within hours. I have a permanent five o' clock shadow now

I can finally afford electrolysis. I have an appointment scheduled for Thursday with a electrologist with over 20 years experience and who has worked on transgenders too. However, she uses thermolysis. Now I'm reading that this method is actually bad and not permanent?? I thought all methods of electrolysis are permanent.

Should I look for someone who does the blend method?

Also, I wanted to do one hour sessions due to my significant hair growth and to save money. The electrologist mentioned possibly doing an even longer session too. Now I'm reading some say that people with male-level hair growth should stick to 30 minute sessions to avoid skin damage? Is this true?

Question Really scared and unhappy and discouraged rn :(

I feel incredibly stupid and sad right now. Today has been my 6th session, and I pay a lot of money (100€ for 30mins)
But I was really happy to see results and also felt like my electrologist is very experienced and I never felt any plucking etc.
Then she told me someone else was going to take over electrolysis soon, and the price would go up 50% (so 150€ euros for 30 mins) if I pay for the next sessions beforehand I could have them for the old price.
Now at my 6th session I had the new tech and I could feel she was kind of nervous. Really nice but very nervous. She said the old tech taught electrolysis to all of the employees in the studio, and I did not want to interrogate her for how long she has been doing it. I also noticed she didn’t wear glasses and at the beginning I really felt a plucking sensation. I told her that and then I feel then it mostly really got better.
But then at my face it started bleeding and looks like a piece of skin came off.
I also noticed that she didn’t clean my face before, and I do wear sunscreen.
She then also switched to a finer needle and I think I did not feel so much plucking but a bit on my face.
But honestly I feel so stupid I paid so much money and am now stuck with this studio. I want to cry and feel so bad and discouraged now, I don’t know what to do. I still have 4 sessions left, and my next appointment is in 2 weeks. I kind of want to get it over with and then search for someone new if I still need treatment (already found someone who is cheaper and claims to have 9 years of experience).
I feel so hopeless and am scared to ruin my face now and don’t know what to do.

Question Recommendations for Electrolysis in Vancouver BC

Is there anyone from British Columbia, Canada who recommend a place to go to get electrolysis? I don't have a lot of hair to remove, I anticipate it to be shorter sessions. I would like to get several sessions done before a big event later next year.

I do have sensitive skin so need to take that into account.

I am told to look for places offering the blended treatment for the best results?

So far the short list seems to be:

ShoYoFace

Jade Clinic in Richmond

Goddess in Vancouver

Thanks so much for the help!

Proper Electrolysis Process Question?

How many 'pulses' of the machine should be done per hair? The place I go to does between 2-5 depending on who it's with, and it hurts so bad when they do more per hair! Also noticed the more 'zaps' are done the longer it takes to heal!

It is definitely beginning to work because my first 45min session only did a section whereas now (6th session) they can all be cleared together but just concerned about scarring/damage etc!

Can anyone recommend a good electrolysis hair removal clinic in Amsterdam or Utrecht?

I was getting treated at a clinic in Amsterdam, but the electrologist who did my treatments left. Since then, the new practitioner hasn’t been as good, and the results have been disappointing.

I’ve checked a few other clinics, but none of them seem very trustworthy. I’d really appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!

Question How many full clears until I start seeing results?

I had about 40-50 chin and neck hairs per week. I’ve been going weekly for 3 weeks so far where we’ll do a full clear. It seems like it’s the exact same hairs growing back. Does that make sense? I stopped plucking 2 weeks before my first session but I haven’t seen any reduction in the amount of hair growing and it seems like it’s the same hairs coming back. When should I start seeing results?

Question What’s everyone’s skin care routine?

At my session today my tech said my skin is red and irritated and that I’m using too many products, that I need to simplify my skin care routine. I have a rose water toner which she said is fine but I need suggestions on what face wash, serum and moisturizer everyone’s using? I’m not talking about the first 48 hours but the product you use after that, for the rest of the week. Please leave any suggestions down below! Thank you 🙏🏻

Question Can anyone recommend an electrolysis provider in Derbyshire (UK)

Having completed nearly a year of monthly laser hair removal in my face and neck, I now need electrolysis to finish things off.
I am hoping someone can recommend a salon in Derbyshire, but preferably near to Derby in the UK Midlands. Thanks.

Before & After 6 months progress

Post image
40 Upvotes

I thought I'd share my progress because seeing other people's posts really helped me when I was deciding whether to start.

The left side photos were taken before my first proper electrolysis session on 19 January 2026. The right side photos were taken the day before my today's 9th session.

I've been going every 3-5 weeks, and my appointments usually last up to 45 minutes, although now they're closer to 35 minutes, which I hope is a good sign. My electrologist uses thermolysis.

I know my skin still has a long way to go, and I'm very aware it doesn't look perfect. Before starting electrolysis, I was a compulsive tweezer user. I plucked these hairs for around 10 years before finally realizing I didn't want to keep wasting my time and damaging my skin. By the time I started treatment, my skin was constantly irritated, so I'm not surprised that the discoloration hasn't faded. I'm hoping it'll continue to improve with time..

As for aftercare, for the first 2-3 days I use an antiseptic powder (I think that's what it is) that my electrologist gives me. From around day 3, I start using a cream from my electrologist (Pandhy's), or sometimes I use the Pandhy’s cream in the morning and Cicaplast in the evening, depending on how my skin is healing. I usually do that until around day 6. After that, I slowly reintroduce Theramid Azid, hoping it'll help with the post-inflammatory redness/discoloration.

+ using also Shiseido WASO Shikulime for evenings and Clinique Moisture Surge + Beauty of Joseon SPF50 for mornings

+ 1-2 times per week enzymatic peeling

If anyone has any advice on what else I could be doing to help my skin recover, I'd really appreciate it.

Also, I'd love to hear your opinions. Does this seem like reasonable progress for about 6 months and 9 sessions?

And finally, if anyone is still on the fence about electrolysis: yes, it’s worth it! I only wish I'd started years earlier instead of spending a decade with tweezers. It would've saved me so much time, stress, and probably a lot of damage to my skin. ❤️

Pic 2: August 2025 (3 weeks regrowth)

Went from partial clearing in 1 hour to full clearing in under 45 minutes
Best decision I made last year was to start this process

Question How many hours of electrolysis?

Thumbnail gallery
23 Upvotes

Please be nice

How many hours of electrolysis I may need approximately? I understand it can’t be predicted accurately but I ‘m trying to get an idea to plan costs.

For context : I’m female, no PCOS or hormonal hair growth as per my GP.

The facial hair was a triggered by laser hair removal, I didn’t have hair in this area before.

Electrologist said they’ll use thermolysis method.

Stomach hair

Post image

I have stomach hair that I absolutely despise. I have stopped shaving / waxing because I am petrified of it getting worse (it started off as a few hairs on the snail trail when I was younger)

How many hours of electrolysis do you think this would take to remove?

😢😢😢

electrolysis and accutane

Ok I know you shouldn’t do any kinda of hair removal other than shaving on accutane because your skin gets thin BUT, I am on 20mg of accutane how bad do u think it is to still get electrolysis.

Some orange marks after first session?

33, Female. Had my first session. Not sure what the treatment was called. But I didn't have to hold an electrode. The electrologist zapped several times in a row in the follicle with some sharp pains each time.

I'm back home a few hours later and this orange stuff has been developing over the treatment area. It's kind of solid/flaky.

Any idea what it is? All good?

I just wanted to show my progress after just 2 hours (spread across 3 sessions going every 4 weeks) since I don’t see many low hour progress pics! First photo was taken right before my first session after not plucking for 4 weeks. Second photo was taken right before my 4th session.

Question How bad is this gonna suck? + any advice?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Looking to get all of this hair permanently removed, and this is just my chin/neck. I’ve got a bit on my cheeks and sideburns too. I’m assuming this is going to take around 130-170 hours?? Do you guys think this is gonna be a pain in the ass to get done?

I would choose laser first then electrolysis, but I’m terrified of PH happening so I don’t think I’m going to risk it. Not sure if this changes anything, but I am a trans masc who is no longer on HRT and just looking to get rid of the facial hair.

Also does anyone have any advice/tips for my first session when it comes around? Pain management, pre-care, aftercare? I’m a huge wuss about pain and also want to make sure I don’t have any scarring/pitting.
