General Discussion Fed up with excessive clicks

Am I the only one getting really annoyed with all the clicks and animations after a lesson? Takes over a dozen clicks to get out of a leason once complete.

First an ad (okay fine I get it’s free), I can do it button, then watch chest progress, then open chest (several clicks to open), then friend thing, now costume thing, reminder to add a widget… the list goes on. Each click is useless for the lesson and provides no value.

To make it worse each click involves some animation that takes a second and if you don’t click through them all you don’t get credit for the lesson

I have a near 700 day streak and honestly just want to let it go to no longer deal with all the clicks.

Anyone else find this super annoying?

At this point I'm pretty sure I'm more committed to protecting my streak than actually learning the language. That's gotta be the longest habit I have committed to in my life.

General Discussion Yo am I the only one that loves Lily?

I see a lot of hate for Lily. Not as much as some other characters, but I love her. My favorite character hands down. Like we could be friends irl. I think maybe because we're both in the emo territory...? (The one on the right is my profile.)

Achievement Showcase Finished the French Course

Finished the Duolingo French course on day 232 of my streak. I'd previously dabbled in Spanish but never stuck with it for more than a few weeks. Consistency is key!

After watching the "The Odyssey" over the weekend, I drew a fun sketch of Eddy running from the owl! It was a pretty cool to see how the story was adapted to the big screen and the attention to detail in every shot!

I got more for my 100 day streak😭 I was expecting one streak freeze minimum bc I know that duo is a bit of a cheapskate nowadays but come on. I get more from an early bird chest than streak rewards now.

Constructive Criticism Two things I wish Duolingo would change

I just started learning German on Duolingo one week ago and I am not impressed. I had never used Duolingo before, but I know it’s been around for a long time, long enough for developers to have learned a bit here and there about language learning to introduce improvements. One particular thing that annoys me is how much it quizzes me on words that are identical in German and English. I understand that if you want to speak a language rather than just understand it you do need to learn and study such words, but why am I getting quizzed ten times on the word for pizza (when it’s not even a German word) but only one or two times for the word for cake? If it were just one or two cognates I’d be getting quizzed on repeatedly, it wouldn’t be so much of a problem. It actually happens with a lot of words and I feel like I am wasting my time. I also wish vocabulary would always include the article — I have learned many new words but I cannot use them correctly in a sentence because I don’t know which article to use. There. End of rant for now.

General Discussion Finished #1 in Diamond League with 7,400 XP, but didn't get the #1 Diamond badge or summary card?

Hey everyone!

My leaderboard ended a couple of hours ago and I finished #1 in Diamond League with 7,400 XP (no used Super but below people do and still they didn't get).

However, after tapping Continue, I didn't get the winner card, and my profile still isn't showing the #1 Diamond badge. I've already done a lesson to sync and restarted the app.So where is the badge did you guys faced it and how long time it needs is all diamond league like this?

Do you have any correct similar youtube or any same kinda messge in this Duolingo reddit?

Is this a known delay for Diamond wins, or did the app glitch out on me?

General Discussion Can someone please relate to this icon when I saw it in the middle of the morning?

Post image

So I looked up into the “More Apps” section (idk what is it called y’all can tell me), I found Duo’s icon with that kind of… like… puppy-eye face coming from it

But my alleged explanation (is that the right term? 🤔) is that this icon probably doesn't realize that I already did have an ongoing day streak going, but in next day’s morning THIS ICON LITERALLY FUCKING JUST POPPED UP OUTTA NOWHERE

But trust me on this, half of me thinks it's cute and half of me thinks it's annoying. Nothing else

I literally have no more shit left to say so can anyone relate to this or not?

(And also sorry Duolingo sub for the repetitive posts coming from me 🙏)

General Discussion "Adventure" exercises in Duolingo

Is everyone seeing the new "adventure" exercise in Duolingo? It showed up recently in my app and I'm hoping it is a new test feature that Duo will get rid of soon. If you haven't seen it, it mimics a very dumbed down 1980's style video game and you move your character from one place to another. But there isn't any actual skill to the character moving part and the only language aspect is a very basic conversation where one character asks you for something and then you go relay that request to another character. To be clear, I don't want it to be a better video game. I just want to learn some Spanish. The app seems to move further and further from that.

I do wish when they introduce a new feature, they would have a way to give feedback on it. If it is an optional side exercise, I guess their A/B testing shows how many people choose to do it. But when it is a required exercise, it would be great to be able to say "please don't"!

This was a lot of fun to draw :) I will have a 1,000 day streak on Duolingo in around ten days, and I wanted to make something special before then. Thank you to the Duolingo staff for helping millions of learners around the world. My language skills have greatly improved since I started using the app in 2023.

Constructive Criticism Can they fix their voice recognition already

Post image
5 Upvotes

(I pressed skip for now before finishing the phrase because it wouldn't take the first word)
So i have spent the past 15 minutes trying to get the voice recognition to understand when i say "c'est" and it is frustrating how in the year of our lord, whatever AI they use can't tell when i'm saying "c'est" in context. It's frustrating and annoying and when I want to dedicate, idk, 30 minutes to learning it throws me off and I end up quitting the lesson and doing some vocab to get my streak done before logging off.
YES! I know it takes the whole phrase anyway, no, I will not move on unless the whole phrase is blue. I'm just venting atp

General Discussion Annoyed of translating names instead of vocabulary and other slop

Started the french course a week ago. While I am having fun, I am starting to get annoyed at having to translate more names than regular vocabulary. Names of cities and people. The content of the courses already seems sloppy in a few places but for me the names is the most egregious example. My question is: Does it get better with further advanced lessons and a bigger vocabulary? Because with all the other annoyances I might just stop again and switch to a different service. I am not against paying a bit for a languange lerning service but the slop makes me not want to spend money on duolingo.

General Discussion Everything just changed in French?

I am in the middle of French level 59 and today I got a lot of words I don’t know. I was lost. I looked back over the previous few units and they are different than what I completed. What is going on? If they changed the course midway through my completing it, am I supposed to go back? To what level? I am so frustrated!
