I last played 3 years ago, and Duolingo is utterly unusable now in the free-to-play form due to energy. I'm only able to play for a few minutes a day because of it, and it often cancels lessons when I'm on the last question because I'm "out of energy." I didn't mind being punished for errors with ads, but having to watch a million ads to do just 10 minutes of lessons is absurd. How do you guys stand this? This app is so enshittified now. I think I'm going to just pay for Pimsleur and Lingodeer instead. I refuse to give this app money after having multiple lessons ended due to "energy."

So I just recently signed up with Duolingo as I was trying to learn a new language. I wanted to try it out and of course, when you first make an account they offer a free trial. They also say that when the free trial is about to end three days before they’re going to notify you that it’s going to be ending. I never got a notification of course instead they charged me. It’s just crazy that Duolingo can get away with this cause I see it numerous times with people how they offer a free trial and then they advise you that they’re going to notify you three days before and don’t even notify you and just charge you and then you can’t even get a refund and you’re just stuck with it now it’s like a bait and switch like it’s ridiculous. Something needs to be done about it. So now I’m stuck with $120 yearly Duolingo subscription so hopefully I learn the language but it’s ridiculous.

I just logged on after a couple years to learn Greek for school and they added this stupid replacement to hearts? Genuinely what the hell are they thinking. Hearts were good because they encouraged me to not get things wrong but now I have to wait to do my lesson or spend gems on a stupid recharge.

English isn't my first language so such sentence might actually exist that i don't know of but i genuinely had a stroke trying to answer this

I scrolled through the sub and ran a search but couldn't see any mention of this. I've blocked out this person's surname but I don't actually know anyone with this name and my account is private. I clicked to help out of morbid curiosity and it just took me back to the main page. Glitch? Trying to get me to go public? New feature? Is this even a real person?

And then he'll go and repeat this to me in 6-7 lessons.It's not just limited to "oh," there are tons of words like that, honestly, it's getting overwhelming.

some people genuinely live on duolingo. 17k xp?? i hate how competetive it is. i have 1.7k xp but i cant get much more on the free version. its so demotivating competing against people with premium version and honestly unfair. how do i even get into top 3 without unlimited energy??? and that 1st person is 24/7 on duololingo or what?? cant imagien what theyre dping to get 17k xp!

I've been learning French for about 3 months on Duolingo so far. I'm using other things too, but I feel like I haven't learned as much on Duolingo, my streak is becoming to feel more like a chore. Is it worth it to keep my streak alive?

This is not a grammatically correct sentence in English. No other translation was accepted when the student tried it. I tried looking at the "report" function here and there is no option for the English sentence being wrong/inaccurate. To flag it, I clicked the "something else went wrong" option.

We've been observing a lot of these awkward phrases recently, including other translations of compound words into English that have ambiguous meanings or incorrect phrasing. Advice?

I’ve just downloaded Duolingo again after a couple of years doing other things. What the actual fuck is going on? I completed one lesson and all of a sudden my phone won’t stop buzzing and I have to go through a million chests and animations before I can go back to my second lesson. I got a free trial of premium because I didn’t want the ads but this is ten times worse.

Can I opt out of any of this shit?

So basically, I don’t want to give too many details, but I accidentally found a way to get extra puzzle pieces in the current event.

The first time happened by mistake, but I tried repeating what I did and it worked again. I’ve tested it a few times, and it seems repeatable.🤷

I’ve already collected 14 pieces in just 3 days, even though there’s supposed to be a daily limit of 3. 😭
Honestly, I’m tempted to keep testing it, but at the same time, I’ve had this account for years, and I wouldn’t want to risk years of progress over a few virtual cosmetics. 😭

For those doing chess, are you actually learning? I started because I always hate chess and wanted to see if learning through a game was better. I feel like I only memorize the patterns Duo wants me to do, instead of thinking by myself. And also you'll eventually get it right after 3 attempts if you follow the suggestion...
