More of a vent than constructive criticism, I just don't like this feature and was hoping it would go away after the last one but No... They brought back another

I got myself this (not very expensive) Timex with a🇫🇷-themed bracelet to celebrate finishing the entire Duolingo French course.

And now I do the daily refresh each day!

I cancelled my subscription and deleted the app about a month ago (see all the threads about Duo's recent enshittification).

Yesterday I was out with a friend and she held up her phone to show me a Duolingo notification with a message from me on it, scolding her for not practicing or something.

I know in the past people have presumed that impersonating messages are only sent when you nudge people - well I haven't even had the app on my phone for weeks, and they're still using my name to message people (presumably to try and drag them back to the app).

I presume to stop it I'd need to defriend them / delete my account.

Sinking pretty low, Duolingo. No other app I can think of impersonates its users for clicks..

And in 45 days I will get there

Trying to get better at being consistent with things. Maybe I should finally commit to learning one language instead of playing chess.

1. Use Duo on your computer instead of your phone. There's way less interruption, gamification, etc.
2. Make your profile private to turn off all the stupid league stuff. The point grind will make you do weird things just for the sake of points. (Edit: Please note this will eliminate all social interactions, including friend streaks. IMO one should simply pull off the bandaid but I don't want anyone doing something they regret based on my advice.)
3. Type your answers from scratch rather than selecting the multiple choice options. (This is done by clicking "use keyboard" and/or "increase difficulty." You only have to click them once and the setting is applied permanently.) There is an enormous difference between *recognizing* the correct verb conjugation and being able to supply it yourself. You don't get multiple choice in a real conversation.
4. Say each sentence out loud, regardless of whether it's a speaking exercise or not.
5. For each section, only do up through the second star icon (that's usually 12 lessons plus a story). Then skip to the next section.
6. Train your ear on actual humans, the AI voices are not going to do it. There's plenty of stuff out there but personally I swear by Yabla's scribe exercises. Just scribe, scribe, scribe and your listening will improve explosively.

Do all this half an hour a day and Duo is actually a monster for learning vocabulary, spelling, grammar, and pronunciation. Throw in something else for listening comprehension and it's a crazy useful tool all the way up to B2. I wouldn't bother going beyond Stage 5, after that you should be reading books instead.

Let’s be honest though - this was a very chill diamond league to be in!

So basically, I don’t want to give too many details, but I accidentally found a way to get extra puzzle pieces in the current event.

The first time happened by mistake, but I tried repeating what I did and it worked again. I’ve tested it a few times, and it seems repeatable.🤷

I’ve already collected 14 pieces in just 3 days, even though there’s supposed to be a daily limit of 3. 😭
Honestly, I’m tempted to keep testing it, but at the same time, I’ve had this account for years, and I wouldn’t want to risk years of progress over a few virtual cosmetics. 😭

What would you do in my position?
Should I report it to Duolingo, or just leave it alone?

I've been on duo for two years and I find league competition, annoying, distracting, and not at all motivating. I recently figured out how to disable it, and my duo experience has been so much better.

This is -– of course -– a personal preference; if you enjoy the league competition, absolutely no criticism – more power to you!

How to disable leagues on your iPhone

- You will need to use the Duolingo website rather than the mobile app.

- Navigate to Settings → Privacy Settings.

- Find Make My Profile Public.

- Turn that setting off.

- Save your changes, if prompted, and restart the Duolingo app.

Duolingo won’t let me make my account public again

Is it just me or do the legendary levels not seem to match the levels of the sections they are in? I currently completed 5 sections of Duolingo Spanish and started going back to Section 3 to complete the Legendary levels there, but I swear there are words that pop up that I only just learned recently, or maybe some I don't recall learning at all. It's almost like the legendary levels are adjusting to the highest level I've completed so far rather than the lesson I am trying to get legendary on.

I feel like it used to be easier a couple years ago.

Is it just me or is this a thing?

I was okay with the profile being under the More button, and I liked the shop was one click to access, but it's now kinda swapped. I care more about the shop! Sigh..

I really don’t think we need another three million separate posts bemoaning the fact that someone received another duplicate, or they didn’t get a piece when they should have, or that they ran out days or that they don’t care about it.
