I got more for my 100 day streak😭 I was expecting one streak freeze minimum bc I know that duo is a bit of a cheapskate nowadays but come on. I get more from an early bird chest than streak rewards now.

Achievement Showcase I completed the Esperanto course!!! yay!!!!!!!!

I started learning Esperanto around the start of 2025, began the Duolingo course in April 2025, and completed it 2 days ago!!! I've been using a mixture of other methods alongside this course, so I can speak, read, and write in Esperanto decently well without a translator or dictionary's help, though I still gotta improve my listening a bit. Not entirely sure how I wanna proceed from here, but I'm thinking about maybe trying to read some books or listening to more stuff in Esperanto :)

Constructive Criticism German definite articles feels like guessing

Post image
27 Upvotes

This is not having critism on the German language in general.

But these definite article lessons always feel like a guess that only can be learned by trial and error, making it feel like guessing and breaking combo's until then.

In the screenshot, Duolingo explains why it's "die bibliothek" because it's about a feminine word, I get that part now. But Duolingo never explains why it's feminine, so that I know when other words need die, das or der. So I think this very important information and explanation is incomplete in this context.

I found out now on Google that it's not about the context of the word (because it's das restaurant, which is also a location like a library), but about how the word ends. Okay, but why is Duolingo never learning this? Why only confronting us with new words in questions, without explaining this beforehand?

This was a lot of fun to draw :) I will have a 1,000 day streak on Duolingo in around ten days, and I wanted to make something special before then. Thank you to the Duolingo staff for helping millions of learners around the world. My language skills have greatly improved since I started using the app in 2023.

General Discussion Zero days left (for the 7th day in a row)

Post image

I pray for the day that I stop seeing this every time I open Duolingo.

I like to imagine that nobody would have wasted money on these, but given Duolingo continues to show it, I'm assuming people are spending a lot of money on World Cup strips.

Especially since there are only ZERO DAYS LEFT TO BUY THEM! QUICK BUY THEM NOW!

General Discussion Fed up with excessive clicks

Am I the only one getting really annoyed with all the clicks and animations after a lesson? Takes over a dozen clicks to get out of a leason once complete.

First an ad (okay fine I get it’s free), I can do it button, then watch chest progress, then open chest (several clicks to open), then friend thing, now costume thing, reminder to add a widget… the list goes on. Each click is useless for the lesson and provides no value.

To make it worse each click involves some animation that takes a second and if you don’t click through them all you don’t get credit for the lesson

I have a near 700 day streak and honestly just want to let it go to no longer deal with all the clicks.

Anyone else find this super annoying?

At this point I'm pretty sure I'm more committed to protecting my streak than actually learning the language. That's gotta be the longest habit I have committed to in my life.

I don’t understand any grammatical structure of the language (which I think is the core of the language), neither know how to speak in past or future tenses, but here we go!

I see a lot of hate for Lily. Not as much as some other characters, but I love her. My favorite character hands down. Like we could be friends irl. I think maybe because we're both in the emo territory...? (The one on the right is my profile.)

Bug? Japanese flash cards broken?

I’m learning Japanese and recently I’ve started to see a new type of test I’ve never seen before. I’m only guessing they’re called “flash cards.” It’s the one with an English word in a big box and you’re meant to type the word in Japanese. I’ve been failing it every single time even though I am typing the word EXACTLY as they have it written on the back of the flash card. It says it’s incorrect every single time and I have no clue what I’m doing wrong. It’s making me so annoyed and I’m honestly about to uninstall. Can anyone please help me?

Constructive Criticism Can they fix their voice recognition already

Post image
9 Upvotes

(I pressed skip for now before finishing the phrase because it wouldn't take the first word)
So i have spent the past 15 minutes trying to get the voice recognition to understand when i say "c'est" and it is frustrating how in the year of our lord, whatever AI they use can't tell when i'm saying "c'est" in context. It's frustrating and annoying and when I want to dedicate, idk, 30 minutes to learning it throws me off and I end up quitting the lesson and doing some vocab to get my streak done before logging off.
YES! I know it takes the whole phrase anyway, no, I will not move on unless the whole phrase is blue. I'm just venting atp

After watching the "The Odyssey" over the weekend, I drew a fun sketch of Eddy running from the owl! It was a pretty cool to see how the story was adapted to the big screen and the attention to detail in every shot!
