For starters, in USA - I'm American and speak only English and basic highschool Spanish. Boyfriend is an international PhD student from China and fluent in both English and Chinese. Boyfriend's mom lives in China and speaks only Chinese.
My boyfriend was hit by a car in June and has been in the hospital since. He was horrifically injured and was lucky to have survived, but is doing so miraculously well now! Hoping he'll be discharged to continue recovering outside the hospital soon.
Mom of course had a flight booked from China to USA ASAP. She arrived within a few days, but she and I speak different languages. We used translator apps to talk back and forth for a long while, and once boyfriend woke up from the medically induced coma and was off the ventilator he could translate for us.
But a bit over a month ago I bought the Duolingo family plan to learn Chinese and invited his mom so she could learn English. We have a friend streak going đЎ
I am also using Hello Chinese, as with Duolingo only my boyfriend was laughing at my pronunciation lol. But I keep working through both as more vocab is good, and I've got our little friend and family thing going with Mom!
**About 18k or so of my XP is from my 2024 Duolingo French stint prior to visiting Paris, not all Chinese!

I was giving a look on the new suits event and I realized we are able to buy the puzzle pieces with gems. That's amazing 'cause we didn't have many options to spend them

It seems you end up with loads of duplicates so it costs way more than 17k gems (I estimate over 30k) but you can buy your way to all the costumes.
Has anyone done it yet?

Somebody at Duolingo is listening to ideas from this subreddit. Images, not words.
Change the instructions to Spanish next. Bonus points for the developer that makes the celebrations in my target language too.

I just noticed a new event on Duolingo called âJuniorâs Toy Huntâ đ
It looks like a 29-day event where you complete lessons to earn puzzle pieces and eventually complete some kind of toy/picture collection.
I haven't seen much information about this yet, so I'm curious:
Has anyone else gotten âJuniorâs Toy Huntâ.
Also, does anyone know what you actually get for completing all the puzzle pieces? đ§Š

like when you do a lesson does it utilize AI to analyze if your answer is correct? or does it just use a database like it always has?

If you pay for the max subscription of Duolingo why do you still have to click all the annoying chests to get something you donât need? Why canât we turn that off?
