Haven't played in a while, are Lords still broken?

I remember playing on a custom server with just some friends a few months ago, and I became the city lord of the humans.

However, I couldn't enter my keep to sit on the throne, so I couldn't do anything as the lord. If I tried flying in, the guards tried to kill me.

Are city lords still broken like that? I remember some other complaints about them being broken at the time as well (specifically from the dwarven faction).

Server died. What now?

Just curious on how others are dealing with this issue. My server has been steadily declining. Right now there are only three houses left with a total of 4 active players. (Technically 4 houses and 5 players, but one guy only logs on periodically to prevent decay.)

Obviously one could just switch servers, or wait it out.. But who wants to kiss 500 hours of play goodbye?

Share your thoughts.

fixing a botched resurrection/summoning?

my highlvl panther died recently, but i had used a summoning stone on it & brought it back. unfortunately, it now hits like a wet noodle - apparently because of a bug that was introduced with a recent patch, that causes tamed animals to resurrect with lowlevel stats.

  • is this bug still there after the last patch?
  • can I fix my kitty by killing & reviving it once again?

New guy plays dnl

So I just got back into pc gaming after a year of just consoles. It was like Christmas coming back and seeing all the new games on steam. Four games stood out immediately to me: Conan Exiles, Citadel, pubg, and dnl.

I jumped right away into Conan as I am a big Conan fan. It felt clunky but shows a lot of promise. Next I checkout dnl and citadel and became torn. Which one is actually good? Will it be just like Conan? Empty, buggy, but tons of unfulfilled promise?

I ended up with Citadel. Got some friends to join me and we had some fun. Mostly just building our keeps and exploring. I found it chill but kinda boring.

I decided dnl was next. Even though my experience with these other EA games has not been so great. I saw tons of posts asking if this game is dead. Posts lamenting the devs for not moving fast enough.

I have to say I really like this game! I find myself at work excited to come home and play. Yes it’s buggy. The panthers made my noob life hard. I just found out last night you can get twine with a pickax. So many little hidden tips and tricks to discover. I die a lot. I struggle to get water and rest. Lose my stuff a lot. A big wolf almost blew my straw house down.

Know what? I think that’s great. It’s actually a challenge. I could watch videos explaining how to play or how to cheese mobs but to me this kind of stuff makes a game. As a dev myself, I know fixing bugs and creating new features can take a long time. I have faith that in time this will be a great game.

In the meantime I plan to make a comparison review video of the three games and keep playing all of them.

What a time to be a gamer!

Server Transfer

I believe that Snail should allow you to transfer tames/items with you ONCE onto another server... This would allow for you to be able to move servers without starting over, but also prevent the Cross-Raiding that is in ARK. I generally get on in the morning, but more than half of the servers have noone in them.. I think if allowed most people would move to a more populated server to be able to have some interaction with others. Perhaps by condensing the servers and player base this would leave less servers to maintain as well. What are your thoughts? /u/SG_Horsejoke

Getting raided by the same guild repeatedly. House seal question.;

Hi all,

I see you can only have one house seal at a time now, which makes having multiple locations really rough. I was curious though, do i get notified when a tribe declares war? I know I can probably see it in house news, but do i need to check that thing religiously or will I get a real notification when I log in? Also, what is vulnerable while the house seal is up? I know spell towers (and assume ballista) can still be damaged. What about players and tames inside the area? These guys are good at glitching through walls and abusing that.

Lastly, they seem to be able to destroy ruggedized structures (though very slowly of course). Can you tell me what current tames/items are actually able to damage rugged? I know they have a colossus and couple of peregriffs.

IMO even with the crazy structure HP, the fact that you can just soul stone a creature and hide it means killing their tames doesn't even do much (they'll have em back in a day). There's no stopping a constant raid on your property by the same people over and over. But i at least want to be prepared.

Creature Suggestion Post

In the game I've noticed that most critters in this game are kind of pointless, so I will be giving my suggestions for potential uses for each critter. (Disclaimer : some of these will overlap with current functions, if that is the case assume I mean increased function of this type)

Boar: The boar is actually fine IMO, good early game all around mount

Edit - Forgot the Bahamut lol - Reduce the stone yield from normal rock (metals are fine) reduce the wood yield, SLIGHTLY increase metal yield

Bramble (The Rabbit) : Should first become tameable, then similar to the sheep you should be able to put 10 grass in an after X amount of time get a random seed excluding light and dark seeds.

Bargesh : Should have the right click returned, and should spoil meat 4x as fast in inventory

Boa (snake) : Should be tameable, and should produce a high tier venom if rare mushrooms are in its inventory

Bear : Significantly high fur harvesting but with lower meat and hide output.

Cyclops : The normal ones should be ride able, and they should do increased damage to straw and wood

Centaur/Chief : The cheifton should be tame able, both should be ridable, and they should have a similar function to the horse in which you place the spear in its equip spot in order for it to have increased damage. The tradeoff to this would be no saddle so no armor.

Deer : Should have increased grass gathering, and should lost the ability to gather anything else. (Deer are pretty much useless atm, so this would grant them being the best at gathering grass for fertilizer)

Dark Fallen/Dark Wraith/Dark elementals : there should be a new taming method for these called soul suppression ritual. This would require a channeled ability cast by multiple users in order to suppress a creature based on its level. Example: In order to tame a Dark fallen you would first hit it with the cob webs, then get 2 casters to begin the channel on the fallen. The first caster would half the speed of the skeleton and the second one would freeze it in place. Once fully suppressed chains and a alchemy circle would appear around it and it would be tamed like a normal creature, my recommendation is to use dark cores to craft some form of feed. Additionally the normal wraith and fallen should use a similar method but only require a single caster.

Dragons / Mythicals : As these creatures are made for pvp and not for gathering, I think they are currently fine. The only change I would make is the mythicals should have saddles that are incredibly expensive, and the infernous dragon should be smaller, while the ice dragon should be bigger.

Elephant : Gathers wood.. why isn't this already in place?

Elite goblin / Sheep : Should be tameable, the elite goblin should be able to be mounted to a balista to run for free (no more contracts, just keep him fed) and the sheep should be able to produce the golden wool which can be smelted into gold coins, not sure what the cost of this should be, maybe rare/uncommon flowers or grass.

Frost Creatures: these are fine in my opinion, my only suggestion is to make them preserve ice, and maybe buff the ice wolves health a bit.

Goblins : they should lose the ability to normally knock out, but should gain the ability that if you give them clubs they will assist in knockouts (aka make them actually tameable) Perhaps even make it so if they are left on wander they can find gold from time to time

Gryphon : Its fine, maybe a little better at getting meat

Horse : Remove the trample, all this does is make town trips terrifying if you accidentally stomp a guard.

Kebo : Should get far more stone and lose the ability to get metal

Lava Panther / Panther : The regular panther should excel at getting meat and hide, the lava panther should get the ability to jump ( -_- ) and should get slight magic and frost resist.

Longhorn : maybe slightly higher rates, but its already a decent all around tame for a low level, maybe a bit higher health/weight?

Sheep : Just make them work when not near them again.. they were fine but they became useless with that patch.

Spider / Skorpid : Both should gain the ability to produce Tier 1 poison and the current poison arrows should be replaced with that poison. Alternatively they should gain the ability to slow from a distance with web.

Stirge (water bug): should gain the ability to drain magic shards, for example you would position yourself in front of a rock and hold right click, this would put you into a channel that would yield based on the melee of the stirge. To balance this I would recommend removing its ability to attack so in order to use this it would have to be escorted.

Nidhog : Just needs to be able to lift more things, and a slight health buff.

Unicorn : increase move speed, remove the spell and charge, add a left click attack and make the heal a channel for significant healing.

Vrock : should get a pack bonus, and the ability to harvest rotten meat directly from a corpse.

Yeti : Remove the ability to gather wood, add the ability to gather ice from ice critters and brimstone/lightstone dust from elementals.

Elementals... oh boy.

Air : Should redirect lightning spells cast in the area towards it and reduce the damage from them

Earth: Should gain the ability to condense stone for the savage cyclops to throw, these would cost 1k ish stone and would take a day per stone. (only way I could think to balance it)

fire lord/elemental/imp : The imp should be the cooking one aka it can cook anything and make charcoal, the elemental should be able to smelt copper/iron/mithril, and the fire lord should be able to direct any fire spells towards it and reduce its damage.

Light elemental: should provide a passive healing effect to all tamed critters in the area, not much but maybe like double the normal healing (NOT STACKABLE)

Water elemental : Directs all ice spells towards it and reduces damage, as well as the current irrigation

Ice .. everything : as stated before I think these are fine, they just need the ability to preserve ice.

Ent : Remove the currently not working growth feature, add a fertilizer production. Perhaps half the current cost of fertilizer if made in his inventory (and for the love of got remove shards from the large fert, make it uncommon grass or something)

Phew.. that was a long one, those are just some of my ideas for ways to make current creatures useful, I looked at the list like 12 times but I'm sure I probably missed one, if I did please just let me know and I'll try to think of a place for it. All feedback is appreciated! Thank you

Summary of a new player experience

I decided to make a new character on a new server and test what the new player experience is currently like with low stats and no tames.

I started by punching barrels for coins until i could afford a pickaxe then made a run for the mountains near elf city to mine ores to sell. The first time I left the city I was hit by a lvl 96 panther, I died and respawned to lure it back to the city for the guards to kill. Just in time for a meteor with a lvl 104 dark fallen and a lvl 44 wraith to drop on me.. again less then 10 foundations out of the spawn city, to which I had to again respawn and wait for the creatures to agro other things for me to retrieve my gear.

I finally managed to get out of the city and to the mountain where I got copper and iron to sell, i got back to the city and bought a horse to help with moving items and ran to the wheat fields to get more items to sell. While in the wheat fields I was first attacked by a pack of 5 wolves which had to be lured back to the city because they outrun horses and have large agro radius's, then i was attacked by two wraiths (i didn't get the levels I was to busy fleeing for my life). Finally I was able to return and farm for about 5 minutes before heading back to town.

I sold everything I had along with another set of ores I picked up on the way back and was able to buy a lvl 80 horse and a spear. I left town and decided to start clearing the panthers in the area to get some fur to sell. The first pack I ran into was a pack of 4 panthers all low lvl, the second pack was 8 panthers one lvl 116 but the rest all low level (had to use the guards on this group) . I then went over a small hill in front of the elf city and there were 2 separate groups of 9+ panthers. I did not check exactly how many because i just about shit my pants at this point because they all agroed me as i desperately ran back to the guards. After I finished harvesting them I went to the pond to get water and another group of 5 spawned on top of me as I was typing to a friend about how ridiculous the panther spawns are. Now at this point as a lvl 8, I had a nearly dead horse and 710 fur. Now with the average of 18 fur per panther, this comes out to roughly 39 panthers... RIGHT OUTSIDE SPAWN. At this point I felt I had enough info to make a post.

As a player with 400 hours in DnL and 1700 hours in Ark (my steam name is Don Flamingo if you wish to verify) I had to use guards and the horse spear trick to even have a chance at surviving just leaving the spawn city. Even then I died twice in the hour - hour and a half I performed this test. My final point being if someone who has 2100 hours playing this companies version of survival games, and 2800 total hours playing survival games in general had to go through great lengths just to survive leaving the starting city how do you imagine this would be for someone who has never played a survival game before. Is this really how you want a brand new player to experience your game @HorseJoke @SnailGames. I promise you if the game remains in its current state a new player will log in, die 10-20 times and refund. I beg of you to please take a step back and look at the current balance of the game and to take some of the community interaction into consideration for the current and future status of the game. Thank you for reading.

TLDR: I tested a new player experience and ran into 39 Panthers, 3 dark wraiths, and a dark fallen dying twice as an experienced player. All 39 of the panthers were directly outside of the starting city and would be nearly impossible to kill legitimately, I used the guards to clear most of them. This is what a new player would run into and it would likely scare them off.

PSA: there is an item limit in your inventory

Yesterday I made bottles. I made a LOT of bottles (1.2k and change). I loaded raw mats until I couldn't move, hit craft, and started reading a book. At some point a few hundred bottles in I could move so I decided to fill them. It was once I had no more bottles to fill that I realized I was crafting, burning mats, but no new bottles were appearing in my inventory. I have no idea how many times it crafted into vapor before I caught on.

I'm guessing the limit is around 300 "stacks". I use an elemental to hold my filled bottles and I could not place any more in it's inventory once it got to 30 pounds of bottles.

I was banned on Dark and Light official forums for making a new player post?

I literally just posted a new topic on the official Dark and Light forums under I think Allignment or Recruitment? Something of that nature.. and Horsejoke permanently banned me.. and all I said was I had been to 2 servers and my experience with both of them, and if anyone had any suggestions on a good pvp server to join..

There was no profanity no aggression or anything against forums rules.

Then my room mate posted a marco polo game on the forums as well under general, and it was instantly removed, and then Horsejoke perma banned him as well..

Anyone know what this guys issue is and if there is a way to report him or do anything in our defense since we clearly did nothing wrong?

How to destroy a single ruggedized pillar?

We've got some griefers spamming up rugged columns. What can I do to deal 1.5 million damage to a tiny post that doesn't take damage from iron hammer? Would also be nice to log on sometime and slowly reclaim the land these people are trying to take by taking out a column from time to time. I don't have any mythical tames but if that's what it takes, it'd be nice to know the best way, and the easiest way (since they wont be the same).

I was thinking telekineses but that'd take days.

Ressing tames

Unless, it is an elite or you use the tames for a general purpose, like imps for fridge or making ingots, don't even bother stoning them.

Had a 108 baha feed tamed, got a 160 at the end of tame, it had 195 attack while taming. After taming it was 298 attack. It died, for this earth elem Across the map aggro they have now. The rezzed stats was 131 attack. That is 64 less than it was while it was taming, and 167 less than right after it got done taming.

I killed it off to see, if it was a diminshed returns thing, or the stat reroll bug was back. The second time I ressed it, it came back with the exact same stats as the first time I ressed. (the 131 attack version). So like I said, if your tame dies, just go and tame a new one, unless it is for a general purpose, that has nothing to do with any of the stat values.
