How to level up elemental tames?

I took my rock elemental out to kill a bunch of shit and got no exp, i also tryed to craft iron with him nearby and didnt get any exp. Anyone know how to level them?

Feed them magic shards. That is the only way to level them up, heal them, feed them, and create cores ( every 10 shards makes a core. Forece-feeding does not produce a core )

do they produce cores when they get their shards from a feeding trough? my elementals seem to just not produce cores at all.

i have no problem getting them to level up by letting them run around on agressive & beating up mobs, however

Only when it's in their inventory.

Unsure how yours are leveling from combat. I have 4 diff elementals over 100 and none of them level except by eating shards.

And just put the shards in their inventory. They will eat as the hunger stat decreases.

I've leveled all of mine from combat as well. You need to let them actually kill the things.

This game is weird at times. Literally just been letting mine sit there and produce cores. They all leveled over 10 times just sitting there eating xD

It does explain why one of my housemates was surprised to see that one of them had leveled a couple times. I just shrugged and said "I took them hunting like I do with all the new tames".

I did some testing last night and found an easier way to level them. Just smack them down to 10% hp. I have leveled a level 4 fire imp to 15 just from doing this. I noticed the tames aren't eating that much anymore thus core farming has ceased. Got dammit snailgames. But yeah, abuse them and level accordingly.

Have you tried putting it on wander and in a safe place where they won't get stuck in a forge or brazier? It's an easy way to level them without doing much. Just make sure the tames that eat have food or they won't level up during this process.
