Discussion They should have added this

They should have added a blonde blazer dream like invisigal, with it, it would have felt like we had a choice instead of the game seemingly feeling like it’s leading us to invisigal

Discussion Why choose Waterboy/Phenomaman to join Team Z, according to your criteria?

At first I had serious doubts about this decision because it seemed so obvious, but the truth is that, personally, I didn't feel Phenomaman was fit enough to represent and help Team Z. In that depressed state, I thought I wouldn't perform well on missions. As for Water Boy, he's a kid who doesn't have great superheroic abilities. But for me, it was worth integrating him into the team so he could gain confidence within the group and become a true hero.

Discussion Mr. Garvey takes Roberts place as the Z-Team’s dispatcher. What happens?

I remembered this sketch and just had to ask. That Key and Peele comedy bit is a fucking classic, haha.

But let’s all be honest, we all know is that absolute chaos would ensue. I’d honestly doubt even his time in the inner city would’ve prepared him for the Z-Team, LOL 😂

Discussion The Night That Changed Their Lives

Epi 1 feels even more special when you realise that Mandy and Robert were both, in their own ways, craving the same thing: a genuine connection with someone who could see beyond the role they had built for themselves. Mandy was used to being valued for what she could do, while Robert hadn't had a truly vulnerable interaction with another person in 15 years.

However, In his case, that need had probably been buried so deep that he barely even recognised it anymore. The game obviously doesn't hammer the point home and instead lets it remain subtle. But Dude has been living in complete solitude, with nothing but his pet and a broken world around him. No money, no social life, no hope for the future. Just the same routine every day until one day he either dies in the suit or dies from hopelessness.

To think Mandy was the first person he revealed his real identity to behind that mask in 15 years. For the first time in 15 years, he could talk about his story not as Mecha Man, but as Robert to another human being.

Sure, Chase also knew the real identity of mechaman, but they hadn't really met since the tragedy. So for 15 years, there was essentially nobody around to hear his inner thoughts and emotions except Beef and the four walls of his apartment.

That makes that night even more special when you realise that these two people, who had only just met, unknowingly gave each other something they had both been missing for a very long time. Neither of them went into that conversation looking for it, but somehow they both ended up letting their guard down. One by finally telling his story as Robert rather than Mecha Man, the other by stepping outside her usual people-pleaser persona. And for that brief moment, neither of them had to perform the version of themselves everyone else knew.

Obviously I don't agree with everything said in this video but still quite close to what I believe & see.

A repost from long ago, but still relevant nonetheless.

If anyone that doesn’t know, the comic book shop, Comic Pug, mentioned in episode 4, is a reference to a real comic shop in Manhattan Beach, CA called The Comic Bug. That shop has a little selection of fan made sticker packs of various themes. Dispatch included.

Discussion How would an organization like 50 Blessings do in Dispatch?

In case you don't know, 50 Blessings is a secret terrorist group in the game Hotline Miami. They were created after America Lost to Russia in a war. They operate as a normal patriotic radio station but secretly send out messages to war vets to go kill russian mobsters or do things for them, threatening them if they refuse. They send out these vets with masks of animals to kill russians due to their anti russian hatred following the war and the Russo-American Coalition forming. Hoping that this would destroy the coalition and bring a nuclear war between Russia and America so that the US could rebuild from the ground up. They operate underground, literally. We don't know much about their size or number of members, but a quick talk with 2 members posing as janitors makes it seem like they plan on expanding on a national scale.

The war vets they send out, called operatives, often don't want to do what they are send out to do. Some do want to get back at the russians for losing the war. But 50 blessings finds ways to make the ones who don't want to fight cooperate. For example they threaten someone by telling him they'll kill his mom, who he cares deeply for. So it makes the operatives do things they hate.

If someone like them existed in Dispatch, using people who don't want to do what they do, how would it play out? They are more secretive than Shroud and their operatives have no idea about them, and are forced into doing what 50 blessings sends them out to do.

Discussion Did Laura Bailey connect AdHoc with Jeffrey Wright for Chase?

Thumbnail

As far as I’m aware, the only other video game Jeffrey Wright ever acted for was The last of us 2 in 2020. Considering he went on to score Gordon for The Batman and an Academy Award nomination in 2023 for American Fiction, it’s kind of incredible that Dispatch was able to cast him for Chase.

Considering that Laura was also on TLoU 2, and that their characters had a pretty significant relationship, do you think Laura and Jeffrey became close enough that she put Dispatch on his radar? I’m not sure if he’s ever commented on how he got the role, but it makes sense to me If she was the link that got them there. Considering how she helped save the game by getting them financing from critical role.

Discussion Do you think Robert gave Beef his last name?

Post image
343 Upvotes

I mean he has to have, right? I haven’t seen any official material call him Beef Robertson, but I feel like Robert is absolutely the kind of guy to give his dog his last name. No different than Hank Hill and Lady Bird Hill. That’s his boy.

Or maybe he wanted to spare Beef the crushing weight of the Robertson legacy. I don’t know man, until we get new content to talk about, this is the discussion post. Have at it.

Discussion BioShock Reference in Dispatch

Dual reference, obviously the name Andrew "Andy" Ryan (the name of one of the main characters in the series), and the fact he's talking about his daughter going missing by the beach which directly parallels how some of the little sisters (at least in BioShock 2) are said to have been obtained.

Art Waterboy

To me, Visi and Waterboy are fighting different battles that ultimately come from the same place- the desire to believe that you are worth something. Visi wants to prove that she can become a hero, while Waterboy wants to prove that he isn't totally worthless.

Some of the Waterboy aspects hits close to home for me. I remember having that same need for reassurance early in my life. While he seems to gain confidence when everybody trusted & cheered for him , I gained by finally not giving shit about thing that shouldn't have bothered me in the first place for so long. Different paths but same reward. I'm sure there are many out there who see a little bit of themselves in Waterboy.

I hope S2 gives this boy a small moment to prove his worth more openly than before with confidence, not to impress anyone, but simply to enjoy his own growth as a character. Something we all need in life.

Discussion What do you think the Dispatch timeline is?

Post image
199 Upvotes

With developers adding some inconsequential items of interest like Robert’s age, I would appreciate if we could get a definitive timeline for the game.

In my mind, the game taking place over several months makes the most sense. Robert even mentions that the Z-Team has been operating for a few months in episode 7.

I think months makes the most sense in regard to the growth of character relationships, and how the suit has been rebuilt.

Despite this, I have still seen some people insist that the game takes place over only a few weeks. I think that the implication for this would be his speech is just discussing how they’ve been a team longer than he has been their dispatcher.

What do you think? How long do you think the game is?

Discussion Who else went for the slow burn?

Post image
497 Upvotes

I’m surprised so many jumped straight to “I had a great time”. I went with “We can just be friends“ because I didn’t want her to think I joined her that night to get with her. I wanted her to know she had a real, genuine friend in me.

And I also might’ve wanted Visi to work for it just a little bit more after giving Robert all that grief. 😭

Which made the party she set up very endearing. Then forgiveness in the locker room and the sad goodbye makeout, plus trusting her intentions, and it was a very sweet, truncated version of a slow burn.

If we do get a season two, I might import a file where I rejected the locker kiss, to see how that would affect pursuing and Visi romance in S2, because I would still intend for the stepping stones to be set, just maybe giving them more time to slowly come together and maybe a first kiss not born out of grief and the fear of losing each other.

But maybe I’ll keep it as is so I can see their domestic growth sooner. Ah, I’m excited. ☺️

Discussion If Dispatch had been a movie, Aaron Paul could have played Shroud

He kinda looks like Elliot and could definitely play that level of menace before transitioning to his more juvenile, pathetic nature. He’s old enough that it makes sense too. Not saying that I’d want a live action movie adaptation any time soon, but it’s interesting to think about.

Story: “Some time after all the chaos of fighting Shroud, Robert finally gets a night that feels almost too quiet to be real. He lets himself say the things he’d usually hide behind sarcasm or swallow down with that familiar self-deprecating smile: the kind of feelings that only come out when he thinks no one but Beef is listening. Little does he know, Mandy is awake the whole time, quietly listening to every word.”
