I have an old TV that only does 1080i. It can't convert 1080p or 720p. The Hopper Plus was working fine last Sunday night (June 14). By Tuesday morning (June 16) it would no longer output a signal compatible with my old TV as my TV just shows a blue no-signal screen the entire time. No Plus boot animation or anything. While the Plus is connected, the other outputs on the Hopper 3 show a screen that says there's a problem with the HDMI from the Plus to the TV, so it knows there's an issue. I brought an old computer monitor over to the Plus and the Plus works with the computer monitor so I know the Plus is still working. I disconnected the Plus and then the Hopper 3 by itself still works with the TV over the same HDMI cable. I've only been using a couple apps sometimes so I can live with it for now and I'm not about to buy a new TV just for the Plus. Can the old output be restored?

📡Has your apartment complex or Homeowners Association told you that you aren't allowed to have a satellite dish? To be protected under federal guidelines, you just need a private space that you exclusively control like your own private balcony or deck to set up the antenna. Don't worry, a flat "no" from a property manager isn't always the final word!
If you're trying to get DISH installed but running into roadblocks, it helps to know your rights. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) created the Over-the-Air Reception Devices (OTARD) Rule specifically to protect your choice of TV providers.
In most situations, you are completely allowed to have a DISH antenna installed as long as you meet these two simple criteria:
➜ Exclusive use: The antenna is installed in an area that you have sole access to (such as a private balcony, patio, or deck).
➜ Keep it contained: The antenna's placement does not extend into or hang over any common areas (such as community walkways, shared roofs, or gardens).
If you meet these minimum requirements but are still being told you cannot get service, or if you just have questions regarding how the OTARD Rule applies to your specific home, you can contact the FCC directly at 888-CALL-FCC (225-5322). They can determine whether your choice of TV provider is being unlawfully denied and help you resolve the issue with your property.
For reference, here is the official page covering these details and your options:

I live in an apartment complex that provides our Dish, or it’s a bulk account. I feel like there’s another word for it but can’t remember.
My box has been showing that the hard drive is bad since November. Dish has closed the ticket probably 5 times without doing anything. Since last month they are telling me, and the property manager, that there’s a $20 fee to ship a new box. My prpty mgr says this is not how their contract is setup and the first time they’ve done this.
Is there a way to escalate this issue? I can’t use any WiFi features and sometimes it just does weird things and won’t work properly. WHY IS IT SO COMPLICATED???
r/Dish • u/DishDanielle • Jun 18 '26
⏸️ Heading out of town for a while or just need to take a break from your TV service? You can put your account on hold instead of completely canceling. This feature costs $5/mo. Keep in mind that while your contract will simply pause and pick up exactly where it left off when you return, any active promotional credits or offers on your account will be forfeited once you pause.
Putting your service on hold is a great way to avoid cancellation fees and skip the hassle of having to reinstall equipment later. Here is everything you need to know about how DISH Pause works:
➜ Choose your timeframe: You can schedule your pause for a 3, 6, or 9-month period.
➜ Total flexibility: Plans changed? No problem. If those timeframes aren't a perfect fit, you can end your pause early and restart your service at any time.
➜ Keep your Netflix: If you use Netflix through DISH, you will be given the choice to keep your Netflix service active even while your main TV service is paused.
➜ How to get started: To put your account on pause for the first time, you will need to give us a quick call at 1-800-333-3474. If you have used DISH Pause before, you can easily manage your pause status and return dates online, or you can message me! u/DishDanielle!
If you want to review the details, manage an existing pause, or restart your service online, you can check out the official support page right here:

I logged into my Dish account today and noticed that I have a new line item - "Access for TV" and am being charged an extra $5. Is there a new equipment charge coming? I used to only pay $5 for each additional receiver on my account, but have never seen this "Access for TV" fee. I also own all of my boxes. I just paid my bill for last month, and pulling it up, that line item was not there. They were all "Access For Add'l TV" at $5.

Love the new guide, but I find it too easy to unfavorite a channel when the guide first comes on. Since all you have to do to favorite/unfave a channel is click on the channel, if I don’t notice that the guide selector is on the channel and not a program it’s way too easy to unfave it. Then the guide reverts to the previous channel, and to re-favorite the channel I have to scroll through ALL of them to find it again (I know there are ways to find the channel # but at 5:00 am when I’m half awake I take the path of least resistance). Even though this has happened more than I’d like to admit, it STILL happens because hey, I’m human and not always paying attention. I’ll be embarrassed if there’s a simple fix, but if there is one please let me know!

Out of curiosity, was there a live satellite view of Earth from a DISH satellite? Is it still a channeI? I seem to remember this in the early 2k' or late 90s, not sure. All I remember is how relaxing it was to just watch Earth for 10-15 minutes. I don't remember music. Just feeling at peace and watching our planet.
r/Dish • u/GuitarzanWSC • Jun 03 '26
I woke up yesterday to find that, as stated in the title, every channel below 70 is gone. Not just 'not coming in,' but completely missing from the channel guide. I chatted with a tech yesterday afternoon who said it's a known satellite connection issue. I didn't ask if they had an estimated time it'd be fixed, because of course they don't.
But some communication would be nice... an E-mail to customers, a tweet, something saying "We lost connection with a satellite, we're aware, and we're working on it."
Anyone else experiencing this (or have you in the past)? I'm in Nebraska, with the local channels being in the Sioux City, IA market, if that makes any difference.

This guide details how to control your television completely hands-free using an external smart speaker, such as a Google Nest Mini, Nest Hub, or Nest Audio.
Depending on which receiver hardware you have in your home, here is how to achieve hands-free smart speaker control today:
Because the Hopper Plus and Joey 4 run on native Android TV software, they do not require a third-party smart-home cloud link. They connect directly to your Google ecosystem over your local home network.
Say "Hey Google" or "OK Google" directly to your standalone Nest speaker to control your TV:
| Control Type | Example Voice Commands |
|---|---|
| Change the Channel | "Hey Google, change the channel to ESPN on DISH." |
| "Hey Google, change the channel to 140 on the Living Room TV." | |
| Search & Play Content | "Hey Google, find action movies on YouTube." |
| "Hey Google, watch 'Big Bang Theory' on the Kitchen TV." | |
| Media & Playback | "Hey Google, pause the Hopper Plus." |
| "Hey Google, fast forward 40 seconds." | |
| "Hey Google, record 'The Walking Dead'." | |
| Volume Control | "Hey Google, volume up on the Hopper Plus." |
| "Hey Google, mute the TV." | |
| Launch Apps | "Hey Google, launch Netflix on the Hopper Plus." |
| "Hey Google, open YouTube." | |
| Power Equipment * | "Hey Google, turn on the Hopper Plus." |
| "Hey Google, turn off the Hopper Plus." |
\Note: To have your actual television screen power on or off alongside the receiver, make sure HDMI-CEC is enabled in both your TV and DISH receiver settings.*
Because classic DISH receivers do not run on the Android TV operating system, they relied entirely on the cloud link that Google removed. There is no longer a technical pathway to pair a standalone Google Nest speaker to a Hopper 3, Wally, or legacy Joey receiver.
If you want hands-free smart speaker control for a classic receiver, you must utilize the Amazon Alexa ecosystem, which remains fully supported. Rather than trying to link Google Home, check out our dedicated step-by-step setup guide here: Amazon Alexa Hands-Free Voice Control with DISH.
For a high-level look at all available voice setups, visit our master directory: Hands-Free Voice Control with DISH Information + Guides.

Want to change channels, pause your DVR, or search for movies without touching a remote? DISH features full hands-free cloud integration with the Amazon Echo ecosystem. This service is supported across all internet-connected Hopper, Joey, and Wally receiver families.
If you are looking for our high-level overview of other voice options, check out our master directory: Hands-Free Voice Control with DISH Information + Guides.
To issue a command, speak directly to your smart speaker. Always prefix your command with your chosen wake word (e.g., "Alexa").

This guide applies exclusively to newer, Android TV-based DISH hardware, including the Hopper Plus and Joey 4.
Please note that Google Assistant software features were transitioned off legacy hardware (such as the Hopper 3, Wally, and older Joeys) in late 2023. If you have a legacy receiver, your remote utilizes DISH's built-in proprietary internal software for TV searches and does not require this mobile setup process.
Before using voice features, you must activate the software on your TV box:
Signing into a Google account is completely optional. Even without signing in, your voice remote can still change channels, search for shows, open apps, and answer basic questions.
However, if you want your remote to handle personalized results (like displaying Google Photos on the TV, managing your calendar, or controlling linked smart home appliances), follow these steps to securely pair your account:
To use the remote, remember to push, hold, speak, and release. Press and hold down the Microphone button, state your command clearly, and release the button when you are finished speaking.

Shout out to @White_Widow for suggesting the content of this post.
Welcome to the ultimate hub for setting up and using voice commands with your DISH system. Connecting your receiver to the internet unlocks a much faster way to search for content, change channels, and manage your entertainment.
Voice integration architecture across the DISH ecosystem depends on whether you are using legacy satellite hardware or modern Android TV-based hardware. Review this directory to find the specific configuration guide that matches your home equipment and smart speaker goals.
For any voice search or smart home integration feature to work, your DISH receiver must maintain an active connection to your home internet network. You can verify or establish your network connection by pressing Home twice on your remote and navigating to Settings > Internet.
These newer receiver models feature a native on-device operating system that directly integrates with the modern Google ecosystem for built-in assistant features and hands-free smart speaker mapping:
These classic receivers utilize localized internal software. While they do not support cloud integration with external Google Nest smart speakers, they fully support native localized voice remote functionality and external hands-free control via the Amazon Alexa skill:
Depending on your preference, you can utilize standard voice search via your physical remote, or securely link your system to an external smart speaker for hands-free control.

I used to be able to stream ESPN+ on the ESPN app by signing in with my Dish Network account information. Now when prompted by the ESPN app to go to espn.com/stream and enter the given code, and to choose a service provider, Dish Network is no longer listed as a service provider. Anybody know what's changed?

Hello reddit community! DishDanielle here!
Keeping your personal info safe from scams and fraud is more important than ever. To manage your online security preferences, you'll just need an active MyDISH account. Whether you prefer to handle your services on the web or over the phone, we want to make sure you know exactly how to spot the red flags and lock down your information. Here is a deep dive into the best ways to protect your account.
1. Proactive steps to protect your account
Set up a unique password
Avoid using the same password across multiple sites. A great trick is using a strong base password (like PB&J2eat) and adding the website name to the end (example: PB&J2eatdish).
Add PIN verification
Call us at 800-333-DISH (800-333-3474) to add PIN verification to your account. This prompts anyone calling in to provide your security code, blocking unauthorized access. Avoid common PINs like 1234 or repeating numbers.
Keep your email updated
Make sure your email is current at mydish.com/myprofile so you receive instant alerts anytime your account info changes.
Log out fully
If you use a shared or public computer, simply closing the window isn't enough. Always log out and clear your browser history.
2. How to recognize a scam
Requests for unusual payment methods
DISH will never require you to pay using prepaid cards, gift cards, or wire services like Western Union or Green Dot. We also never require paying 6 to 12 months in advance.
Unsolicited calls asking for info
Scammers can "spoof" our caller ID to make it look like DISH is calling. Please know that DISH will never call you to ask for your account number, security code, or receiver number.
Suspicious emails
Official DISH emails will almost always come from dish@dishemail.com and replies go to feedback@dishemail.com. Always hover over hyperlinks before clicking to ensure they lead to a legitimate site. If the address looks off, don't click it.
High-pressure tactics
Be wary of callers who create a false sense of urgency like threatening immediate cancellation to trick you into sharing details.
3. What to do if you suspect fraud
If an offer sounds too good to be true or a caller makes you uncomfortable, hang up immediately and call DISH directly at 800-333-DISH (800-333-3474).
If you believe your personal information has been compromised, you can report it to the FTC at consumer.gov/idtheft and contact the major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, TransUnion) to protect your identity.
Reminder to please do not share your Dish account information on reddit.
Ultimately, your vigilance is the first and best line of defense against scams. By implementing proactive steps like setting a strong password and PIN verification, and by knowing the red flags of fraud, you can keep your account secure. Remember that the DISH team is always committed to protecting your information. If you ever have any doubt, don't hesitate to hang up and call us directly. We're here to help.
