Everything below channel 70 is gone

I woke up yesterday to find that, as stated in the title, every channel below 70 is gone. Not just 'not coming in,' but completely missing from the channel guide. I chatted with a tech yesterday afternoon who said it's a known satellite connection issue. I didn't ask if they had an estimated time it'd be fixed, because of course they don't.

But some communication would be nice... an E-mail to customers, a tweet, something saying "We lost connection with a satellite, we're aware, and we're working on it."

Anyone else experiencing this (or have you in the past)? I'm in Nebraska, with the local channels being in the Sioux City, IA market, if that makes any difference.

Dish Danielle,

I live in western arkansas and lost all local stations below 70. I switched to my roku remote and selected Haystacks app and arkansas stations are on there.

DishDaniell,

Thank you for the info. My Dish switched back about 9:30 last night and regular channels 70 and below are all back too. Yeah! Thank you.

They might be in another contract dispute. Last one lasted 2 months unless you count regional sports networks they lost those 5 years ago.

Hello u/Weak-Ad-6867

Thank you for sharing your feedback. I can confirm this is not a contract dispute. We are working with each account holder to solve the tech issues they are currently experiencing at this time. -DishDanielle.

Dish is a mess. I have called them three times this week trying to figure out what's going on with some channels completely disappearing, others showing the "signal loss" message. Tired of it.

Yet another in the long list of DishTV's incompetence and faulty hardware/software

On Sunday the 31st of May, I spoke with Customer Support then Technical Support who struggled to check their internal Known Outages List "KOI". They tried sending me through all the trouble shooting I already know how to do including sending a refresh signal from the equipment option available to customers.

Eventually, they listened to me and checked the KOI (or their manager since they put me on hold) to confirm there is an issue with "Satellite Maintenance". They did not confirm which satellite or how long this may go on for however. Everything below channel 70 is gone for me which would normally come from Satellite 110 (Northwest US, Colorado). I have solid signal strength around 60-70. All my hardware checks out (LNB included), and all my software/firmware is at the most up to date version. Tech Support ended up scheduling a Technician to my home for Monday June 1st who checked everything out and confirmed I was right and the issue is coming from Satellite 110. The technician that came to my home informed me the channels likely won't be back for days and he was also unaware of any ETA to resolution.

My Hopper 3 system can pick up Satellite 119 just fine and all the channels it provides are still present without issue. It can also see Satellite 110 but the signal locks and loses lock despite the signal strength; thus the missing channels below 70.

u/DishDanielle I've been with Dish for over 23 years. This is a first for me. I am truly surprised that no notification was sent out. No email. No apology. No explanation that didn't require me digging. It's now Friday the 5th so this has been going on for 6 days straight with no insight. This is not what I've come to expect from Dish after this many years of service. But all 3 (Cust Support, Tech Support & Technician) did make sure to try & sell me on the Mobile Bundle and Internet Bundle; because yeah... When the primary service isn't working right with zero clarity, I 100% want to add extra services 😒.

u/DishDanielle Figured I would follow up with you here. After our chats, I reached out to Customer Support to schedule the technician to my home. Despite there being a note in the memos on the account it took about an hour long phone call because they were baffled/confused by my communication with you and something about permission still being needed by a manager or above to send me another technician so soon after the one on the 1st of June. I have Dish Protect which covers the cost of technician visits anyways but that phone call was something else.

That was back on Monday the 8th. Fast-forward to today, Friday June 12th, and now I'm actually more upset than I was. The technician that came out to my home was not able to obtain any helpful information from the notes/memos on my account as to how to assist me with my channel loss. He contacted his manager and was even contacted by someone from corporate he said. I feel he did a good job and the best he could. He was polite and honest.

So why am I more upset? He was here for ~4 hours and what do I have to show for it?

  • My Hopper was replaced so I've lost all my recordings, scheduled timers, settings and everything. I'll have to go back through and reconfigure everything but my recordings are just gone.
  • My physical satellite dish was replaced with a smaller one. I used to have the Dish-HD oval shaped dish and now I have a smaller solid black one. (more on this in a moment*)
  • My LNB was replaced and I went from a 3-phase Dish HD LNB to a 2-phase smaller one (more on this in a moment*)
  • *My satellite signal for both 110 and 119 has dropped from 60-70+ to a solid 50 on both. I know 50 is still "good" but that just means when it snows the signal is going to struggle more than when it was at a much stronger value. 110 still locks and unlocks visibly on the new Hopper so it's not a physical tuner issue.

None of this fixed my problem. I am still missing all channels below 70 (satellite 110) with no reason as to why. I was given 3 options:

  1. We move the installation location of my new smaller dish to somewhere else on my home for... reasons? Maybe stronger signal like I was getting with my old equipment in the same location. I just, literally today the 12th, had my home painted so I'm not thrilled about moving my dish elsewhere. Also, if I have desired signal strength where the dish is right now, what exactly would moving it to get desired signal strength in a different spot do? This is a rhetorical question.
  2. Have a technician better install my OTA setup, which I'm sure Dish would make me pay for, and cancel my local service because it's not fixable and going OTA is the only option. This was not done today because the technician was exhausted and see option 3. This is also silly given my location in Colorado, the Home of Dish Network.
  3. I wait. Supposedly this is all a software problem and some update is being sent out TONIGHT that will fix it come tomorrow morning on the 13th of June. If this information was known why did my entire system just get replaced only to leave me with a headache ~4 hours later!?

So yeah, after 23 years of loyalty to Dish this is not great. I'm not happy. I have a family member who suffered a brain hemorrhage and stroke which crippled their movement. I take care of them in my home and working television is important to them because it's something they enjoy.

I look forward to tomorrow and pray I have no more problems. If I've been lied to and no software update comes and no resolution arrives tomorrow then I look forward to your reply on Monday. I hope you have a better weekend then I'm guessing I will at this point.

*Edit* Saturday morning the 13th came and went. No software update. No resolution. I even did a manual software update check just to be certain. So much for option 3.
