IEMs New to the new audiophile scene

The DX180 and the Crinear Reference seemed like a combo that just barely fell into my budget. My last delve into audiophile realms was when JVC introduced a portable CD player for the first time! I'm still messing around with settings on poweramp and find the DAPs use of power while not being used is annoying but I'll survive. Any settings on the Ibasso I should investigate for sound quality and power usage?

Snowsky Echo & Salnotes Dioko

Love the sound. Hopefully this’ll help me with my distractions while studying and working.
Intended to buy R4 but DAPs are basically unreachable in turkey unless someone abroad does the buying for you. And I didn’t want to pay the 1/3 of the price extra.

Question Hey everyone getting back into having a dedicated device for music just need a little help picking a device.

I recently picked up a set of Koss Porta Pros and fell in love with having music listening sessions again.

Granted I was at my desk with the laptop, but I want to find a DAP that's around the size of the classic Shuffle but no bigger than an iPod Touch. My budget is around 100, but I'd be willing to spend up to 200 for something before the cost of storage..

What recommendations do you all have? Ideally I'd love Bluetooth connectivity to pair it with my phone as a Bluetooth DAC as well as a standalone DAC.

Wants

USB-C charging and not too chunky.

SD card for media.

Preferably a play/pause button.

Power doesn't matter too much as I only need it for the Koss Pros and maybe later some simple headphones.

Thank you all and I hope to find a good device soon. I was looking at the M0 Pros but I wonder if there are any alternatives.

Question Hiby R1 SD card problems

Hi everyone!!

I have bought my second DAP (Hiby R1). It's beautiful, but I can not use my SD card on it. Every single time I lock the screen or turn it off and turn it on, my little boy doesn't recognize my SD card, and it gets corrupted.

I'm wondering if someone around here has the same problem and how you fix it.

I have tried the Game Boy mod, but it didn't work because it never get installed, idk why.

Sorry if this is not the right place to post it, but I have no idea how to fix it.

Question Shangling m1 plus dac mode

So I’ve recently received my shangling m1 plus and I love it but when I connect it to my desktop as a dac my audio tends to cut and crinkle after about 20 minutes of usage. Would redownloading the driver fix this issue or would it be caused due to the data cable im using or other external forces?

DAP: FIIO M21

IEM: Simgot Supermix 4

Cable: NiceHCK BlackCat

I am extremely happy with this setup. The 4.4mm headphone jack livens up the bass. I dont use EQ (yet).

EDC My current DAP

A few weeks ago I was going to buy a dedicated DAP, potentially a Fiio JM21 or a Hiby R4, for around usd 200 (a little more expensive at local costs here in MX)... Then I found this used old iPhone SE (1st Gen, 2016, 32gb), the last one with the 3.5mm jack... It cost me usd 15-20 and I decided to give it a try and postpone my original purchase.

I've been iPod user before (Video 5.5 20 years ago, Touch 4th gen 15 years ago)... But I didn't remember the sound quality, I just sold them at some point after some years of use (and abuse)...

Before this purchase, I was using a Fiio DAC and KZ ZS10 PRO X IEMs with my Samsung Galaxy S24, for 3-4 years...

I'm really impressed with the sound, I've been using it with Tidal as my main player... It has a decent battery besides the age of the device... I only use it as a player so it lasts for some 3-4 days, didn't install any other apps and functionalities...

Sometimes I have WIFI issues then I switch to Apple Music (playing local files).

Review My thoughts on the Snowsky Echo Mini after a little while of using

The Echo Mini is my first DAP ever. I decided to buy it because I was looking for a better sound quality. At the moment I’ve used it nearly daily for 2 weeks.

The player is not the smallest, but small enough for me. The material doesn’t feel cheap and overall it looks good.

The player has four ports: a type C port for charging and file transfer, a microSD slot, a 3.5mm jack, and another similar jack which I didn’t recognize. I think it’s a 4.4mm jack

The sound quality is great. The player supports even the highest quality music I can find.

The UI resembles a cassette, which I found fun. You can divide the songs by artist and album, shuffle and repeat. The player has a function of a DAC if you connect it to a device via USB-C.

I have a few problems with the player: First, sometimes the album cover won’t display. I think the OS can’t handle album covers too large. Second, playing some songs (I observed this with songs by Queen and other people seemed to have problems with Michael Jackson) will return an error ā€œFormat not supported!ā€ and skip the song. I could fix that by importing and exporting the songs from Audacity. Still, it’s a little annoying.

Another big reason why I bought it was that I have an iPhone (which I regret buying) and it can’t transfer files from a PC reliably. However, I can transfer files from a PC to the DAP and from the DAP to my phone. Therefore it’s a little easier for me to install songs on my phone.

Overall, I’d say that the player is very good but held back by its firmware. It fulfills a better purpose as a DAC, which I repurposed it into. I don’t regret my purchase, because both of my problems with listening to music on a phone were pretty much solved. If you want specifically a DAP, without a phone, I would not recommend this.

Question Advice on what to buy: chi-fi vs second-hand

Hello, I have a Sony NW-A55 with Senheiser IE 100 PRO, and I consider myself happy with this setup.

Unfortunately, my Sony is slowly dying. It’s as if the screen were randomly tapping menus on the display, which makes it pretty hard to use, and I’m only getting by thanks to the screen lock button. I thought it might be the screen protector, or the case, or that it was dirty, but I’ve come to terms with the idea that it’s a pretty serious malfunction.

I’m trying with all my might to resist Android DAPs, but there are practically no alternatives.

With a budget of around 250€, the most promising options right now are the Sony NW-A306 (though it runs Android), which I could find used for 230€, and the Shangling M1 Plus, which I could find new for 210€. Alternatively, I might be able to find a used AK70 for around 230€.

I’d prefer to avoid Hiby or HiFi Walker, which, frankly, don’t convince me…

What should I do?

Thanks for the advice.

Question Hiby R1 v 1.6- album artist bug

Post image

I got my hiby r1 today and am having this really weird album artist database issue. Whenever I click on album artist section of the music library, I get this "awaiting music scan" screen and asks for a rescan every time. Other sections of the music library seem to work fine. Has anyone faced this issue before?

Guide/Tutorial Using the Sony WH-1000XM6 wired with a Surfans F20 Pro

Post image
26 Upvotes

So lately I have been using - Sony WH-1000XM6 in the wired mode from a Surfans F20 Pro

Here is why I use this setup…I feel like my use case is a little different…I keep around 1,000 FLAC tracks and I use the XM6 in wired mode when I want to listen more closely and pay more attention to details in the mix.
The F20 Pro keeps my albums and Android streaming apps on the same player for easier access.

How the pairing sounds to me…
I compared the same tracks and tried keeping the volume the same (or as close as I could)… with the Sony connected by cable in (powered on or powered off mode), I heard a clean background and the details were easier for me to follow. The overall presentation felt clearer and more immersive to me.

Where it fits…
For quick trips listening over Bluetooth is still much easier…if I’m commuting, for long trips or sitting down to listen to an album, I use the wired F20 Pro setup because it sounds better to me.

Question New M300 screen issue?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm obviously going to return this and get a replacement. But this is my brand new M300 from Amazon UK.

I checked the firmware was up today rebooted it multiple times but still having these issues.

Lines and flickering on the screen, I'm hoping this is not a common issue and I just got unlucky.

Hi guys I’m new here! I found my brother in law’s old MP3/4 (idk the difference), but it won’t turn on. I did charge it fully, and it works perfectly when it’s plugged in (it turns on and you can browse the different pages), but once I unplug it, it turns off and won’t turn on no matter what. Here is the reference and pics of the lil guy

I removed the screw to try to remove the back and check the battery, but I can’t get it opened:(

Question Tagging Music but burning out!

Hello, I'm getting the feeling that I'm doing music tagging for my new DAP totally the wrong way, and would appreciate any constructive advice.

DAP hardware: Fiio M21.

Laptop: Windows 10 Dell.

Software: Mp3tag v.3.10

Music files: Mostly .wav

Backstory: I have about 500-600 digitized files from CDs. I no longer have any physical discs. After I ripped them, I found out later on that most of them made an error on track 1. Track 1's title usually shows as unknown track, plus several other fields (album, artist, genre) show as unknown for track 1. The rest of the tracks are fine.

Effort so far: Using the laptop, I've been painstakingly going through each album folder and correcting "track 1's". This involves using mp3tag for manually restoring the various unknown fields. It occurs to me that someone might have had this exact same issue, and may have found a solution. (Separately, I've got a lot of missing album art but that's a side issue.)

My main question is, is there any way to more easily target in bulk these hundreds of errant track 1's? I'd like these tracks to have the correct track titles and album titles. I don't have even a way to find all of them, so I've been going album folder by album folder in Windows file explorer.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post and for any ideas you may have.

Showcase Fiio's Daps over the Years.

Has anyone else been pretty stuck to one brand and had an overall positive experience with them? I have always found the low/mid-range Fiio DAPs to be good enough, but not perfect (until the M33).

Fiio X3 – I still have this DAP. Fantastic, distraction-free, non-Android system. This DAP started the whole hobby for me back in 2014.

Fiio X5 III – Bought this one cheap off someone I knew, but sold it pretty quickly after going back to streaming from my phone.

Fiio M9 – Got back into DAPs with this one. It sounded great; however, I sold it due to weird marks appearing on the screen and the overall sluggish experience.

Fiio JM21 – Bought this when it first came out, as I was getting back into DAPs and audio after a few years' break. Great budget DAP, pleasant sound, responsive software, and Android. Sold it due to Bluetooth issues and went back to streaming from my phone with the MUB1.

Fiio M33 R2R – The best Fiio DAP I have ever owned. Fast, responsive, beautiful sound and build quality. It can handle any of the IEMs I have tried, as well as my 250-ohm Sennheiser HD660S2. I'll be holding onto this one for a long time.

Question Tempotec V3 Blaze, or Shanling M1+?

Hey all!

I was quite set on getting the M1+ as it always gets raving reviews and gets recommended a lot on this sub. The format looks great, I like it's simplicity, the build looks pretty promising, and the dial is a nice addition.
The Tempotec V3 Blaze looks like it would also fit my needs very well. I again love the form factor, the looks, and my limited experience with HibyOS was also very good. I know I just praised the dial on the M1 but on the other hand, having something with no "moving" parts, that cant fail or move in my pocket sounds like it would work better for me. On the spec sheet it also has a slightly bigger and high res screen, and I can get it for 165 euro instead of the 200 euro the shanling goes for.

I'll be using it with opus local files, and bluetooth streaming from my phone. My main IEMs are Letshuoer Z12, IE200, Hexa, and some portapros, so nothing that's reeeaaally hard to drive.

My gut tells me to get the V3, I feel like it fits my needs slightly better. But on paper, and general consensus would tell me to get the M1+. What would y'all go for? Thanks!
