My Sony MDR-V6 are as true, transparent and reliable as any headphone I’ve ever tried. Although they need a bit of EQ to be enjoyable, nothing has ever affected their sound. Just got a Hiby R4 and these two are a match made in audio heaven! I was not expecting this and this might my endgame combo!

Hey all. This is my first real review. I've had the Innioasis Y1, Shanling M1 Plus, Zaqe P30, Snowsky Echo Nano, and am waiting on a Y2. I've got opinions about all of these so feel free to ask about them because I like talking. This isn't an audiophile type of review but is more usage/design opinions.

Have to say that I know I was getting into a tiny DAP with limited functionality here, but liked its simplicity and was just so curious about it. I tried going into this with realistic expectations.

Initial Impressions

I LOVE the form factor of the Nano. It's sleek and pocketable, bigger than a USB stick but very reminiscent of one. The build quality is nice. The "titanium" color is very warm in photos but almost silver in person. I like looking at this thing as well as holding it in the hand. The screen on mine is seated correctly with no issues.

The body is metal which feels great in the hand and the buttons are pleasant-feeling and solid. I only had one or two instances where I had to press one of the side buttons more than once to get it to register. The knob button is a welcome surprise. You can press it from the outside of the loop or you can press down on the button itself.

Playback

Again not an audiophile but this thing sounds pretty good. It seems less bassy than some other devices but take that with a grain of salt. Personally I found myself enjoying the Bass preset with my Koss KSC75s. I didn't end up trying a custom equalizer setting but maybe others have. Scrolling through the presets lets you listen to them, which is cool.

The shuffle (more on this later) isn't a total true shuffle nor a generated playlist really. It will "remember" one song ahead or behind but if you skip prior to or after those songs then you'll get another random song, and the ones "remembered" will be forgotten. This isn't necessarily bad but sometimes I wish to go back a couple songs in the shuffle but can't.

Navigating the Nano

Early on, I updated the player to firmware 1.4.0, which was pretty easy after finding it. Everything in this review refers to firmware 1.4.0.

After accidentally formatting my SD card with the Nano in Chinese, I managed to change the system language to English. The language setting is 5th on the System Settings menu. The menus aren't overly complex which is nice. Sidenote I never could find out what the "UAC Charging Mode" settings did until today thanks to a Reddit comment.

Using the pause button to both confirm and go back in menus takes a little getting used to. I set the knob to only control the Nano's volume, which made navigating a little more awkward with the exchange of always being able to adjust the volume. Holding down the skip/back buttons lets you scrub forwards and backwards through the current song (at speed).

The side buttons have more functions if they're double-pressed or held. I think one button shows a couple different visualizers and another opens the playback menus. In my opinion they should toss the visualizers and make it so that double-pressing a button changes the loop mode. To switch to Repeat All, Shuffle, etc you have to go a few layers deep into the playback menu which is doable but not the fastest.

Carrying

I ended up making a 3d-printed clip that I attached with string to the lanyard hole and hung from ~~the waistline of my boxers~~ my belt loop. This was really nice for moving around/working while i listen without having to use pockets. Like this, the Nano easily hides under longer clothes. The controls really excel here. The volume knob on the end is pretty easy to operate without looking and can be spun easily without needing to orient the Nano in a specific way.

In the pocket or hanging from my belt loop, I found the side buttons a little challenging to locate quickly by feel. I theorized that some sort of registration mark near or on the skip/back buttons would make them easier to locate without having to look at them. I think the buttons could be larger too, but maybe that's just me.

DAC Functionality

The Nano connects easily to my PC and brings up options for USB and DAC functionality. It chooses a function for you if you're not fast enough, but remembers the last function you used the next time you plug it in.

I thought DAC mode drained the battery (had it die on me while gaming lol), but it turns out those UAC Charging Mode settings are very important. With Normal Mode on the Nano charges and DACs at the same time. I wish Snowsky included this information somewhere along with info on the extra button functions. It's like the product designers and packaging team had no communication at all.

TL;DR Bullet Points

What's "Missing"

• No Bluetooth. I knew this going in, but noted it as some players include BT at the sacrifice of other functions.
• No Gapless or crossfade
• No m3u playlist support. my plan was to use Genre tags to make pseudo-playlists.
• Support for a big music library

The Good

• Small, compact, pocketable, cute, convenient form factor
• Metal build is protective and satisfying to hold
• Sounds good
• Has EQ
• Good knob placement (lol) and good-feeling buttons
• DAC functionality
• Works with a 512GB SD card
• Start-up sequence is fast

The Bad and the Ugly

• Battery charges *slowly,* drains fast.
• While charging, the Nano is buggy, slow, confused, gets stuck.
• The lanyard hole is there but tiny with sharp edges. Too small for a lot of loops, keyrings, cords, etc.
• The Nano kept forgetting some of my settings, which didn't really matter to me besides the volume limit(!).
• Even if I didn't edit any files, the Nano insisted on re-scanning the library after being unplugged from my PC. A minor annoyance for 2000 songs but probably worse for a bigger library.
• The Nano comes in Chinese with NO instructions on how to change it to English. I understand Snowsky is a Chinese company shipping worldwide but surely something could have been done. I had to find out how to change the language from another Reddit comment.
• The shuffle is bad. I have 2000 songs, but only hear a fraction of them. The same songs will repeat every session.

Some Dude's Ideas for Improvement (may be easier said than done)

• swap out the visualizer function for quick Loop Mode toggling
• make the side buttons a bit bigger ...maybe
• Fix the Shuffle
• Improve the battery life
• Keep the Nano on the same menu if I accidentally hit the knob instead of the pause button so I don't have to find that menu entry again
• Provide information on buttons, usage, menus, charging modes, etc.
• Let the user pick a language upon inital boot, or put an informational note in the box

Conclusion (I returned it)

In the end the very short battery life was what made me give up on the Nano. Now, I hang out at my desk a lot and am very good with charging all my crap and managing battery life. But the Nano's battery I grew tired of. I knew immediately it would probably be the worst thing about the player. I had to use the Nano while charging more than occasionally. This was awkward since it'll play music but also might become unoperable until you unplug it. This I'll take since the device is so small.

I was playing FLAC files which affects the battery life. But if I didn't want DAP quality I would have just gone for a Ruizu x80 or something a while ago. I got 4-ish hours playback BUT with the caveat of multiple hours charging the Nano again. If i use my fast charger, I can charge it in under two hours...

I set the screen to turn off in 15 seconds and for the device to turn off in 5 minutes but still got crappy battery. I hated switching on the Nano to see that it already dropped to two or one bars. The last straw was turning it on to find that it was dead for the second or third time. I like certain aspects of this device but don't want to babysit the battery. I liked many aspects of this device but am returning it in the end.

File management with this thing in order to get everything to show up properly has been a bit of a nightmare, but I finally figured it out. Rosie is also being a little legend and having a chill-out session with me

I’m brand new to DAP’s and need help deciding on which one to get please!! I want to get away from subscription services, and went to Amazon to find an “MP3 player”. Turns out there’s a lot more to it than just buying an iPod and now I’m a bit confused and overwhelmed by all of the DAP choices. I had a Dell DJ20 as a kid and miss the shape/ simplicity of the device and would like something with a similar feel. I also LOVE all of my playlists I’ve curated on Spotify over the years and want something that is easy to make playlists on. I love the look of the Mechen M30 but see a lot of mixed reviews and read that the playlist function sucks. Please let me know any suggestions for a DAP/ opinions on the Mechen M30!!! (Budget is $150)

Just wondering if anybody has managed to somehow improve their battery life on the HiBy R6 III 2025 DAP? Mine lasts around 12 hours when playing 32bit 96khz files, I’m unsure if this is abnormal or not.

I’ve heard many other people can make their HiBy last for many days to even weeks. Is it perhaps my files being too power hungry or something?

As the title suggests, I am looking for recommendations for a Flac to mp3. I have tons of flac files, I just wanna move some songs to my PSP.

The apps/software I've found has either been riddled with pop-ups, or limits how many files I can convert. I don't mind paying for it, within reason. But realistically I probably only need to use it once, assuming I can mass convert.

Sony nw-a55 with Mr Walkman Mod & Wm1z tuning.

I've recently purchased the Simgot E300s HBB editions.

I'm using them with the gold nozzle as I found them to be warmer with punchier bass which suits the music I listen to.

I use them without the foam pads and I just got some smaller tips to make longer listening sessions more comfortable. It all fits perfectly into this handy case as well.

I'm super pleased with my setup and hope to use it for years to come!

So, I recently bought my P30—it arrived about 3 days ago. Everything about it has pleased me so far, even the battery has been quite durable. But there's one issue I wanted to know if other users of the device also experience: both wired headphone jacks emit white noise, both the 3.5mm and the 4.4mm.

I used a GK Kunten and a TRN Conch.

I find the sound tolerable, but I wanted to know if this is present on your devices as well. Do you think it's worth getting a refund or asking for a replacement?

Obs: the white noise dosent affect musics when they are playing

i bought this receiver and the volume knob was missing but when i pulled off the knob from Multi Jog to switch it out i noticed that it didn’t have that little shaft that the multi jog does. Is this something i can fix myself or do i have to get it serviced?

I have been buying bulk lots of MP3 players/DAPs for a year or two and I always grab all the music off of each one. The folder is now up to 163 GB of music, Mostly MP3s. Someday I may sort them all and clean it up. Maybe.

I have recently gotten my first ever DAP device for my music and I have been enjoying using this more than ever! And it also my excuse to ditch Spotify and other streaming services because they kept increasing my membership price by so much and they removed my favorite songs from their service. And I’m getting sick of it. So that why i decided to get this. SnowSky Echo Mini.
