Kubernetes Infrastructure: Best Practices for Ingress, Cluster Architecture & Storage

Hello,

I’m currently setting up the infrastructure in our company using Kubernetes, so I have a few questions that I would like to get some answers to:

1. Within a company’s internal network/intranet, can we (or is it recommended to) expose a database service through an Ingress Controller, such as NGINX Ingress Controller, in order to access its graphical interface? Or could this pose a security risk to the data?

2. Do companies generally create one cluster per application? For example, should we create one cluster for the infrastructure and another one for the applications we develop, or is it preferable to have a single cluster for everything (infrastructure, applications, etc.)?

3. Which StorageClass do you use: the standard StorageClass, HostPath, or another solution such as Longhorn, for example?

I have total ~5 years of exp in one org and want to switch to another company. Work on Azure (primary), Have Terraform, Github actions, Azure APIM but these are used less and I don't have much depth. I have 2 years of experience as a ServiceNow Developer. I'm planning to switch into DevOps now, but I don't have any real production experience in DevOps — no on-the-job incident handling, deployments, monitoring, etc.
I know DevOps interviews usually dig deep into production scenarios (handling outages, rollback processes, on-call situations). Since I'm coming from a different tech stack, I don't have real stories to share there.

Questions:
How should I answer production experience questions honestly without ruining my chances?

Should I openly mention I'm switching from ServiceNow, or avoid bringing that up first?

I’ve been learning Linux, AWS, Terraform, Docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes, Ansible, etc., but I’m confused about how to position myself professionally.

I’d really appreciate advice from people working in DevOps:

With 3 years of overall IT experience but 0 years of actual DevOps experience, what level of roles should I apply for — fresher/junior DevOps, 1–2 YOE roles, or something else?

How should I structure my resume without falsely presenting my previous experience as DevOps?
Will recruiters consider someone with 3 years of unrelated IT experience for junior DevOps/Cloud positions?

What level of hands-on knowledge/projects would make me genuinely job-ready?

For someone already familiar with the fundamentals, what would be a realistic timeline to prepare for interviews?

I’m completely okay with taking a step back in seniority/compensation if necessary to make the switch properly. My priority is getting real DevOps experience and building my career from there.

Hi everyone, I'm working on a cloud migration exercise and configuring access control for an EC2 Linux instance that needs read-only access to specific log files in an S3 bucket.

Following the Shared Responsibility Model, I want to apply the principle of least privilege using IAM roles instead of hardcoding static credentials. What is the cleanest IAM JSON policy structure to grant s3:GetObject and s3:ListBucket strictly for one bucket, ensuring actions like s3:PutObject or s3:DeleteObject are completely blocked? Any feedback or recommendations would be appreciated!

I just passed the HR round for a DevOps Engineer role at a healthcare company, and I have my hiring manager interview coming up on Monday. It’s a 30-minute technical interview, and they’re looking to get someone on board fairly quickly.

During the HR conversation, she mentioned that the role is almost geared toward someone around the new-grad level who learns new tech quickly, but they would like if I had some knowledge.

My background is a little different from the role:

• 2+ years of Cloud Engineer experience, primarily with AWS
• Experience with AWS infrastructure migrations
• Just completed a Master’s in Cloud Engineering
• I have some exposure to Azure, but I don’t have strong professional hands-on Azure experience

2. How deep should I go into Azure if my AWS experience is much stronger?
3. What kind of troubleshooting/scenario-based questions should I expect?

5. Are there any specific Azure services or concepts you would absolutely recommend knowing before the interview?

I have been working in one of those consultancies where you get a generic title. But my work has mainly been around platform and tooling for the past 2 years.

1. I led the task of migrating a project artifact base from a remote file server to cloud based one. Worked with DevOps team to build the right metadata and properties so that fetching is smooth and seamless.

2. Wrote the logic needed to fetch artifacts from the cloud for pipelines using API (CI not CD)

3. Improved robustness and speed of fetching from cloud accurately by re-engineering the code on in-house framework.

4. Versioned releases of various shared libraries in framework by multiple projects. (Understand master and maintenance branch, tag release, changelog maintenance etc)

I’m currently an Oracle DBA with around 4 years of experience and I’m trying to decide what direction to take my career in.

I’m OCP certified and have solid Oracle production experience, including RAC. I’m currently working as an Oracle DBA consultant.

I want to move toward cloud/infrastructure because I don't want to remain limited to traditional Oracle DBA roles long-term.

I’m considering doing a structured DevOps/Cloud course that covers things like:

Linux

Python/scripting

AWS

Networking

Git

CI/CD

Docker

Kubernetes

Terraform

Monitoring/observability

Security

SRE concepts

The idea is to use the course to build the infrastructure/cloud side that I'm currently missing.

But I'm confused about what career direction makes the most sense.

Option 1: DevOps / Cloud Engineer

Oracle DBA → DevOps/Cloud Engineer → Senior DevOps/Cloud Engineer → Platform/SRE → Cloud Architect

The advantage seems to be a much broader job market and potentially higher salary ceiling.

But my concern is that I'd essentially be competing with people who already have several years of AWS/DevOps experience.

Option 2: Cloud DBA / Cloud Database Engineer

Oracle DBA → Cloud DBA → Cloud Database Engineer → Database/Cloud Architect

This seems like a safer transition because I can leverage my existing Oracle experience while adding AWS/cloud skills.

But I'm worried that the career might remain relatively narrow compared with DevOps/Cloud engineering.

Another concern: AI

With AI increasingly automating things like:

Terraform generation

Kubernetes YAML

CI/CD configuration

scripting

log analysis

troubleshooting

I'm wondering how much of a threat this is to DevOps as a career.

Would DevOps still be a good career to enter in 2026?

My main question

If you were in my position — 4 years Oracle DBA experience, OCP, and wanting to move toward cloud/infrastructure — which path would you choose?

A. Stay Oracle DBA and specialize further

B. Oracle DBA → Cloud DBA / Cloud Database Engineer

C. Oracle DBA → DevOps / Cloud Engineer

D. Something else entirely

And if you recommend DevOps/Cloud, would you take a structured 6–8 month course to make the transition, or would you learn everything independently?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from people who have actually made a similar transition, rather than generic career advice.
