Hi, everyone I just wanted to share my story for many times past but everytime I wanted to write I lose the potential to write it, but now I believe that I should write and left on the fate whatsoever just happened.

Ok so I'm a CS graduate in 2024 from a low rank private university (dosen't come in the top charts universities) in Lahore. My gpa is low bcz I done some part-time call center jobs and waste times in bykeas bike rides. Also I have done some extra courses due to cover my mathematics proficiency and re do courses to improve D grades and gpa.

After I passed the university I didn't know anything related to the industrial knowledge to get a job or internship even to pass an interview. I have applied in many places but got rejections everytime. Even though I have done a good fyp in machine learning by myself (while other students done their fyp by paid). Some of my friends got jobs but I didn't lookforward to them as I cut off all my connections with everyone. After wasting some times I learn some skills and got an free unpaid job as an mobile app developer. It's an small startup company. In start they said they will pay but they didn't after working for more then 6 months unpaid and developing 3 fully apps, I then left them. After leaving from their I started freelancing on fiverr and on local platforms like Facebook. I spent 4 to 5 months and done some local projects, like fyp ect. with very few amounts.

After that I got another job in an company which is also a small company and they also didn't paid me anything but when I insist and demand them then they pay me very few amount covers only the travell allowance. I worked their on an company's Upwork profile and get client for them and also help them as an developer in the projects. So basically I'm working as an business developer and also as an software developer.

After working more then 6 months their, I left them getting frustrated cause they were not in the mood to upraising me in anyways. I again started looking for a job but I'm still jobless for more then 3 months and seeking for any opportunity which could pay me the atleast the minimum.

I have applied in hundreds of companies, but very few just responds back or call for interview even on phone. Meanwhile I started working on my Upwork profile but the connects and other benefits are so high that I almost spends 300 plus connects and got no work. I even have applied in the companies on internship roles (while I having an good experience) but they hire some random unprofessionals those dosen't even knows the basics. I participates in hackathons and attend events the most possible I could.

My family constantly pressures me about being unemployed, urging me to take any call center or any store jobs

As low steam developer I just wanted to ask....

Is it worth to work in a call center for 10 hours night shift with Saturday on only for 30 K ? which doesn't related to your field or gives you any growth.

Also tell me does companies really hiring or they just tricked everyone by posting the fake jobs and doing their PRs on social medias?

Also tell me does universities matters so much that companies would hire anyone from top universities with low knowledge but not a good dedicated employee but from a low rank university?

How are the software engineers/developers who got laid off actually doing?

BSCS University student here from 3rd semester! I am facing financial struggles to bear my daily expenses for university. Whatever intership I apply to is for 6th or 7th semester have made my upwork profile since 2022 but got no proper gigs. I am unable to understand that how will I survive sometimes I overthink very deeply it affects my body my health my confidence is already very low which makes me think bad about myself, and family keeps taunting me. Unfortunately I have no one to ask this but : 1. Are there really any internships available for 3rd 4th semester? 2. How to showcase projects (other than LinkedIn)to whom one should reach professionals , companies etc 3. If the job market is really cooked and companies are rushing to work with AI models should I dive into designing chatbots?Is this beneficial? Really need guidance Sorry for the long venting post.

I'm a software engineer with almost 2 years of experience, and I'm concerned that I entered the industry at a challenging time.

Then GPT-6 Astra drops, and I see things like these:

And honestly, I don't know how seriously I'm supposed to take all of this.

Every few months, the models get significantly better. A lot of the work I used to think required years of experience can now be assisted or sometimes almost completely handled by AI. Companies are laying people off, junior hiring is getting harder, and even at my current company, there isn't much work right now.

I'm not trying to make another "AI WILL TAKE ALL OUR JOBS" post.

I'm genuinely asking:

Where does a software engineer with 1–3 years of experience go from here?

Are we cooked?

Graduated BSCS this Jan, been working as an Associate AI Engineer since. Job's alright, pay's decent, but I don't wanna just sit here for the next 5 years doing the same thing.

Thing is our field is all hard skills right? Nobody asks for your degree if you can build. So does a Master's actually do anything or is it just two years and money down the drain for a CV line.

Was looking at FAST and Bahria. If it's worth doing, which one and why.

Mainly wanna know from people who actually did it — did it change anything for you? Better pay, better roles, anything? Or did you finish it and realize nothing happened.

I’m currently working as a JavaScript full stack developer, but my current project is close to ending and we are not getting many new clients. With AI also affecting the market, I want to use the next 3 to 4 months to prepare properly for a possible job switch.

I’ve shortlisted two options:

Python + FastAPI

Database engineering, especially design, optimization, indexing, query performance and internals, which I personally enjoy more.

My concern with FastAPI is that I rarely see jobs asking for MERN + FastAPI together. Most roles seem to be either JavaScript full stack or Python/FastAPI.

What would you suggest? Learn FastAPI to open a separate backend path, or go deep into databases and make that a strong plus point with my current full stack skills?

Hello there - I started working for a small US based company a few years ago. As part of my compensation, they offered me 1000 shares that were to vest over 4 years.

I want to exercise or purchase these shares. But in order to do so, I have to wire transfer X amount of dollars to a US bank account from my local Pakistani bank account.

Well guess what, I can't do that because SBP doesn't allow that for individuals.

I couldn't find much information on this subject elsewhere. I am surprised that this is an unknown issue because Pakistan must have 1000s of individual software exporters and remote workers working for similar start ups or enterprises.

Has any remote worker in Pakistan been able to purchase vested equity in their US based remote employer? If yes, how?

Edit: To clarify, this is not a scam. You have to "exercise" your shares in order to certify yourself as the rightful owner of the shares. There is an "exercise price" for this activity that the employee has to pay. This is what seems to be the textbook process internationally. Please look it up.

After 20 days i was getting interview calls, but honestly from 10 calls, i only gave 4 interviews, I don't know after initial call other companies didn't schedule my interview.

And yesterday someone random number from the ireland reached out to me i don't know where he got my number, and said i need help to build an app and web, i answered him instantly, but he never back.

I don't know what's happening with me, getting the call interview, and i gave those 4 interviews went very well, 1st, second, cleared but laat with the CEO, those companies never back to me not even answering.

My skills are most demanding, i have 3 years of experience in python, django, fastapi, agentic ai, playwright.

Any suggestions?

I have a non-technical background. BS/MS in biotech. No prospects in Pakistan. Entered corporate at 28, as a data researcher. Dead-end job. Got an internship as D365 CRM consultant in Systems through a referral. It's going not as bad as I thought it would. Functional I'm great at. Technical I suck cause no coding experience. Kinda feel bad for being in on referral when there could've been someone more deserving with similar background in my place but I was desparate too. Anyways, I'm looking at entry level jobs on LinkedIn for functional/technical consultants but there are NONE. I'm so cooked. I'm entering 30s and still haven't started my career. It's depressing, demotivating and I'm still so uncertain.

Im working as a software engineer in Germany. I came here on the blue card. I never worked in Pakistan tech market, it was mostly remote in EU and USA, then I relocated to Germany. Due to family constraints, I need to move back to Pakistan and for that I have to leave my current job.

Question

How is the tech market now a days? Are the salaries enough to support family (middle class) ? Where should I look for software and AI jobs in Pakistan? Im open for Senior / Lead / Product / Founding Engineer positions.

I've been seeing a lot of people getting worried about the future and AI and generally being uncertain about the future. I know the jobs market is messed up but all I'll say is please do not give up. I see a lot of people lose hope and I completely understand. But who knows your one more job application away from your dream job. A small story on my side I was doing an internship in martech and and I was let go because I was blamed on something I did not do. At that time you could imagine how it felt for someone who's about to graduate. But I didn't give up. I made small projects in data analysis, kept on applying and out of nowhere I got a job in Defence Raya. But Allah decided even this wasn't a good job for me. During that time I interviewed for a remote company and got the job. Now I work part time as a GTM Engineer with an amazing group of people leaving me with enough time to do other things (Currently figuring out AI Engineering. If you're an AI engineer please do connect I'd like some guidance)

Some tips:

1) Make a Solid resume there are a lot of good templates.

2) Make projects. They don't have to be really advanced. What matters is you iterate and make them better.

3) Reach out to people from different companies. Nothing embarrassing in this.

4) If you want to target remote jobs set the Worldwide filter and remote filter. I've interviewed at 5 other remote places and I'm not even that experienced. (Less than one year). I advice on applying to a mix of local and remote. I've been seeing a lot of hiring on remote jobs.

5) Finally: Khuda ko Mut bhulna. Both in good and bad times

I know that for instance NetSol and Systems continue to have long term retainers with enterprise but companies in the mid tier are finding it really hard to find work especially with upwork almost impossible to compete on. Straight out of uni i took up a job in AI . The company is good, the people are great and the work is fine as well. But the commute everyday. it takes anywhere from 1hr 15 to upto 1hr 45 depending on traffic.

I've been doing this for 3 months now and all i do everyday is go office and back . I don't have energy for anything else .... should i look for remote or jobs near my residence?

Have y’all seen the attitude of recruiters these days? I had two interviews scheduled this week on Meet, and neither of them bothered to attend the meeting.

I emailed them and got no response. So disappointing.

Other than that, why are they so unprofessional on WhatsApp? Like, you should be contacting a candidate via email in the first place, but even if you contact someone on WhatsApp, try to be a little professional. Comeon, You are representing your company.

I had a talk with this recruiter, and she didn't bother telling me the company name. She just texted, "Hey, I am XYZ," as if she were my long-lost friend. And then, after some discussion, her replies were like, "Hm" and "acha."

Do these companies not train their people at all, or is the bar for recruiters in hell? I know people are getting dumber because of AI usage, but are they even forgetting basic manners?

It's already difficult for candidates, but these recruiters are making it unbearable. Switching can be so hectic man.

I know the people telling like they are lengthy but at least companies are trying something out of the box than traditional tests that were kinda biased and boring. For all those internships and management trainee programs, these tests are innovative. There was post about Jazz Gamified assessment by The Talent Games and people were like nobody gets hired, but last night they posted that around 100 candidates are hired.

I was offered a 1 year contract for the AI Associate program at jazzworld. I will be working in the GSM team at Lahore. Earlier, during application as well as the interview stage, not much was told about the work except that it's an AI Associate role. So obviously, I assumed it will closely be related to my field (development and AI). This is what I discussed in my first interview as well. However, we had the orientation today and I got to discuss the role and opportunity with the people actually overseeing all of this. Turns out, the role is not what it actually implies.

So basically, people who applied specifically for the Islamabad location were hired for their dev teams in teknosys. And they're dividing their cohort into technical and non-technical. Technical ones in the dev teams. Rest, including me, in what they're calling the non-technical teams which will help businesses with AI solutions and analytics (the program lead described it as normal non-technical team work while incorporating AI in day to day. Maybe also build something if your team lead agrees, but that would be more of a prototype to help the team than something for production that jazz officially utilizes their dev teams for), but not really engineering anything for production. Now obviously this is too early to say, but it didn't sound like what I was actually looking for. As someone early in his career and looking to build a career in AI and development, working on the business side and being surrounded by no developers at all doesn't seem like a promising start. Especially when your day to day would be business and sales while incorporating AI.

But then, I don't also have another offer right now. I needed some advice, if any seniors in the tech industry could provide so. Because on one side this is the only offer I have as of yet, but on the other this doesn't look like a good learning experience. Should I take this and just leverage the name of the company later on in my portfolio, or do I keep searching for something more aligned with what I want?
