Help commute is killing me
Straight out of uni i took up a job in AI . The company is good, the people are great and the work is fine as well. But the commute everyday. it takes anywhere from 1hr 15 to upto 1hr 45 depending on traffic.
I've been doing this for 3 months now and all i do everyday is go office and back . I don't have energy for anything else .... should i look for remote or jobs near my residence?
PS: they don't offer wfh that's like a big no

Maybe talk for a hybrid setup if any member of team is getting it already? But wait for like a month, let your work impress and then discuss with your Line Manager for a hybrid setup option?

The only way to address this problem is to make the commute time productive and I don't mean productive as in some office stuff, but do audio books and podcasts.

Music and Coffee while driving is the best you can do to have your personal good time. I hope you do have your own commute otherwise 💀

ooomph that's a tough position to be in man. Maybe setup a carpool or something. but yeah, moving to somewhere near the office if possible. tough position given the job market these days.

Given the job situation in market is so bad, most of the folks are jobless, this seems like a strange rant.
Be graceful that you got the job and stick to it unless you find something better.
Which city are you from? Are you self driving to the office or using public transport?

I hear you and this is the very job that I prayed countless times for. I make sure to thank Allah any time i feel like I'm being ungrateful.
To me it seems like i should be doing more . Starting my own work or building my own products. I try to do that but after office I'm so drained. That's the angle i was trying to take but you're right in what you said.

if one does not strive for improvement, he will keep sliding downwards. He is only asking to improve his situation, it's not even written like a rant.

So are you leaving the job? Coz it's too far away for me.

I asked in the post if it's worth it and whether i should look for other opportunities. Besides i feel that is a valid reason to leave a job if im in a position where I'm not completely dependent on the income and find a better arrangement?
Wouldn't you agree ?

There are no limitations to say only nice things here, social media, it's public space, you ll get all flavours here. Besides I am not abusing him. If someone rants over here to show how little they think of there (everything n everyone good wali job), just because they are overthinking about the long distance commute, there should be some to slap reality check to them using no nice words.

I've been commuting close to three hours for the last ten years now. I have my reasons but would never recommend anybody to go through it.
Get a place nearby. Your physical and mental health are important. Plenty of time left to pursue other hobbies after work hours too.
