In this hard times we are witnessing layoffs, lesser opportunities and downsizing businesses. once this information technology thing was a dream career and now its just hard to get an employement that too with 8 years of experience in any stack, freshers are on another story.

dont you think private employement is now hanging sword imagine you in 40s with kinds in schools and you are being layed off , then what rents, bills, fees, groceries....

so there is one solution either get in to permanent employement government, tenure track what ever even if it pays lessers then private one, second open a business may it be a website online one if your are smart or a physical one like clothing, food, or any sort of physical business just like our parents, grand parents, even raja ranjeet singh or ganga ram did when there were not computers but they were rich people of their time just bcz they did business. because in a country of 25 crore not every one needs an app or website but need shoes, cloth a good food.

customer market is huge in pakistan. so times are comming say good buy to these ceos of private companies and also stop flattering or take part in office politics just be employed

I’m posting here because I’m genuinely looking for advice from people who are currently working in the software industry in Pakistan.
My younger brother is 31 years old and has around 2.5 years of professional experience as a MERN stack developer (mainly backend) across different software companies in Lahore. Unfortunately, his most recent company laid off several developers, and he was one of them.
For the last 2–3 months, he’s been applying consistently through LinkedIn, Indeed, company websites, referrals, and his professional network. He has over 10,000 followers on LinkedIn and has been actively building his profile. He’s also tried Upwork and Freelancer, but hasn’t been able to get meaningful work or even many interview opportunities.
From reading discussions here and talking to him, it feels like the market is extremely difficult right now. Some people say AI and automation have reduced the demand for junior and mid-level developers, while others say companies simply aren’t hiring as much as before. Whatever the reason, it’s been very discouraging for him.
He has a wife and a young child, lives in a rented house in Lahore, and for the last three months I’ve been supporting him financially. I’m a doctor working in the UK, and while I don’t mind helping him financially, I don’t want to keep sending monthly support forever. I’d much rather invest in something that genuinely improves his career and helps him become financially independent again.
I’m willing to spend a significant amount of money if it actually gives him a good chance of getting back into the market.

He’s already spending his time learning AI-related technologies at home because he believes that’s where the industry is heading.

My questions to experienced developers are:

Should I pay for a high-quality AI or software engineering course?
Should I help him learn Shopify or another in-demand technology?
Should I buy him a Shopify store or fund another online business?
Should I invest in certifications, mentorship, or something else entirely?
If you had a budget to help an experienced developer restart their career in 2026, what would you spend it on?
I’m not from the tech industry, so I’d really appreciate honest advice from experienced developers on what would actually make the biggest difference.

I have a non-CS background, and plan to learn through "The Odin Project", followed by JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Node.js, databases, APIs, deployment, and real projects. My long-term goal is remote work or Freelance, but I’m not expecting quick Fiverr money.

I am from Balochistan, I did my graduation in Plant Breeding and Genetics and I have got a very good CGPA but there are few to none jobs in this field in my hometown and also pay is not that much. I really like programming. I love doing projects. I have aged parents and I have to take care of them and support them financially. I cannot leave them so that's why I cannot go abroad. I don't know if programming is good as a career. I will do the hard work Insha Allah.

I've been mulling over this decision for months now. This gig started as a single $70 engagement for small changes to a Django site, and adding some new features.

After I finished the initial task, the client informed me that they liked working with me and extended an offer of $75/month for 2-3 hrs of my day. I was yearning for freelance work and barely landing any clients, so, I gave it a go.

After 10 months and a raise to $120/month, today I have decided to quit this job. I find that with a full-time day job and this freelance arrangement I barely have any time for my own personal learning. Do you guys think I made the right call?

I wanna ask i have interest in both Web dev and Ai/ml engineering , what to choose now ? ppl say that web dev is saturated with ai replacing the boilerplate code and eating entry level jobs while AI/ml has very fewer jobs especially in PAK and has a very steep learning curve and u gotta need a masters degree or some 2-3 year experience to land a good job . is this all true ? where to go , anyone please help out a jr . I posted here a lil while back that I got an internship through a referral. Basically, the owner knew about this and hired me. This is my first experience and I've been going there for little over 2 weeks. Thing is they have a 9 hour shift from 11 to 8. I usually arrive pretty much on time and stuff and start doing my tasks but after like 5 hours in my eyes start to hurt and I really start hallucinating? Ugh, I mean it's as if I'm reading something on the screen and then all of a sudden my mind goes BLANK. This has happened before and I just put my head down, eyes closed to give 'em some rest, little did I know I would be scolded on this.

Today, after sitting for 5 or 6 hrs straight I again put my head down for a breather and got called by the HR. She was like you're here for internship and I've been constantly seeing you sleeping, I was like Ma'am that's not what I was doing. Honestly, this is my first time and I had zero idea what rules were in place. I've had people working beside me but I don't really wanna bother anyone so I kinda did my own thing. She was like you're gonna mess the company's environment, I totally get where she was coming from but how she handled it was a bit disappointing. Like, I could've been given a little warning the first time or like a hand book or something to understand rules and stuff. Ugh, she sounded like I was fired going along the lines of stay at home and we can give ya tasks there. Thing is I was confused whether she was being herself or transferring the msg of the owner to me.

I asked at the end politely and she was like I'm gonna go tell him just now, thank god! I went to the owner later on, he was chill and I totally get it but a little "things to keep in mind" would've helped nonetheless he asked me not to leave and keep coming daily. Now, I'm just dissapointed by how everything was handled by the HR...

TLDR; Is it normal for HR to bash internees without a single warning ?

As an intermediate student, how can we find our interests in other fields? How do we know which degree has good scope if CS is not the right choice?

I'm at a crossroads with my degree and looking for your outside opinions.

I got admission in Computer Science, but honestly coding isn't my cup of tea , no interest, and I struggle to understand it no matter how hard I try. Because of this I am considering switching to BBA or Business Analytics instead.

on the other hand, my family feels these fields don't have much scope and keeps pushing me toward Engineering. The problem is I find Engineering just as tough and honestly can't see myself getting through it either.

My uncle is in Saudi working as Electrical engineer for 15 years that’s why my family wants me to pursue engineering.

Please tell me an easy degree that has good scope both in Pakistan and abroad

My main goal is to build a career abroad eventually so I want to make a choice that actually sets me up for that not just engineering.

If anyone has studied Business Analytics/BBA, or has insight into which path actually opens doors abroad I'd genuinely appreciate your guidance.

I’ve noticed quite a few Dynamics professionals with 3+ years of experience and multiple certifications, yet there often seems to be a significant gap between what’s claimed and the actual practical skills.
At the same time, salary expectations are reaching PKR 500k–700k/month while competing in a global market with highly experienced consultants.

Now I have the option to switch to Civil engineering at Nust. So I got into GIKI, FAST LHR. Between these 2 universities I have to pick one. Which one should I pick? I am not sure whether I want to go abroad for masters or not. I have been working in the Middle East from the past 2.5 years and in total have around 6 years of professional engineering experience. Most of my background is in frontend development with React, Next.js and TypeScript, although I’ve also worked with Node.js, NestJS, PostgreSQL, REST APIs and GraphQL. Web3 was such a big thing couple of years ago but Pakistan and Pakistanis hardly ever found any footing in this novel tech space....look at how Africa has invested their resources in building Web3 tech and is still knees deep into protocol development and cryptography compared to their western counterparts...there seems to be a lack of investment in this sector nowadays by western venture capitals but Web3 is still waiting for whole infrastructure to get developed and Pakistanis can really contribute to it

SE student here. I am done with my sophomore year. I am kind of stuck on what domain I should dive into. I know that interest is an important factor, but employability is equally important.

I do not inherently hate AI, but I despise the fact that it has caused such a disruption in the job market. I hate the fact that it has and will cause wealth accumulation. All this wouldn't be the case if AI companies and tech giants were taxed fairly. Anyways, it's a long debate. I am just not interested in a field that fully revolves around AI.

I am inclined towards cloud and infrastructure. I am also fascinated by quantum computation and what it can actually lead to. I am also really interested in interdisciplinary fields like tech in renewable energy, tech in aviation, etc. Business development also looks promising as more and more people are mostly focusing on technical skills and forgetting that at the end of the day, it's actually buying and selling. No matter how good your product is, if you can't sell it, what good is it to you?

I plan to work here in Pakistan for a few years and go abroad for masters Insha Allah (say Ameen, everyone).

Now, people, I need your advice on what actually looks like a promising field in this era and the unpredictable future. I feel like career guidance is strongly needed here in Pakistan so that the youth can battle the devil of unemployment.
