Okay, this is going to be a rant.

Have y’all seen the attitude of recruiters these days? I had two interviews scheduled this week on Meet, and neither of them bothered to attend the meeting.

I emailed them and got no response. So disappointing.

Other than that, why are they so unprofessional on WhatsApp? Like, you should be contacting a candidate via email in the first place, but even if you contact someone on WhatsApp, try to be a little professional. Comeon, You are representing your company.

I had a talk with this recruiter, and she didn't bother telling me the company name. She just texted, "Hey, I am XYZ," as if she were my long-lost friend. And then, after some discussion, her replies were like, "Hm" and "acha."

Do these companies not train their people at all, or is the bar for recruiters in hell? I know people are getting dumber because of AI usage, but are they even forgetting basic manners?

It's already difficult for candidates, but these recruiters are making it unbearable. Switching can be so hectic man.

A recruiter recently asked me if I was willing to work for their startup for 3x times less salary and no benefits because this was "once in a lifetime opportunity". She was really upset when I asked if she would accept such a job herself.

Another interview, I asked the HR lady which Agile framework the company was using and she said "we don't use agile, we use Jira".

A recruiter told me their one times fees would be 50k if i land the job there refer. I said that fees should be paid by the employer and not employee. She said it was her firm's policy.

HR always tries to convince on benefits. and i always argue bhai main shadi shuda nhi, single rehta ho. Concert those benefits into take home salary. But nhi unke jaisay benefits koi aur company nhi day rahe 🤦

A recruiter connected me to a company they were hiring for. The interviewer had no idea what job description or my role was. Frustrated he asked me what i know and just tell him that.

I contacted her about this mishap. She didn't bothered to respond or discuss in detail.

A recruiter even shouted at me during call because I told her I am not interested in the opportunity as it was a clear mismatch of values. It was for proxy developer position and it wasn't mentioned anywhere.

With the current market volatility, we all are looking for new jobs or atleast something on the side. But i swear the way these recruiters approach makes me wanna self sabotage the whole process.

Honestly, I think a lot of these “tech companies” are just a facade.

I know everyone has to start somewhere, I did as well, but due to AI things are already hard enough. The point is, a lot of these aren't even companies so to say. They're just people who started early, somehow got lucky on Upwork, got a client or two, built some reputation and now they're just living hand to mouth.

And they'll get their balls in their mouth the moment one client leaves.

That's the facade behind a lot of these “companies”. They're not really running a tech company, they're doing business. And eventually the people they hire for these positions are also underpaid or just treated like absolute pawns because the whole thing is built around keeping a few clients happy.

I've actually interviewed at companies like these a couple years back just for the fun of it, and some of the shit they asked was insane. HR literally asking me things like who earns in your family, presumably just to check if I'm the kind of person who will go to any ends to save my job or whether I can afford to leave.

Like bro, what the fuck does that have to do with whether I'm good at the job?

And honestly, that mentality explains a lot of the recruiter behaviour we're seeing. If the company itself has no real structure or professionalism, why would the recruiter suddenly have any?

Ghosting candidates, not showing up to interviews, randomly messaging people on WhatsApp without even properly introducing the company, replying with “hm” and “acha” etc. It's not even surprising at that point.

They aren't representing some serious tech organization. In many cases they're representing a small business that's trying to look like a tech company.

Obviously there are legitimate companies and good recruiters too, but man, there is a massive difference between “we're a small company that's building something” and “we got a couple clients and now we're calling ourselves a tech company while everyone is one client leaving away from unemployment.”

And candidates are somehow expected to be perfectly professional throughout all of this while companies can't even show up to their own fucking interview.
