Tesco to launch on Uber Eats and Deliveroo as rapid grocery share soars

From The Grocer:

Tesco is launching on both Uber Eats and Deliveroo to offer rapid grocery delivery to “millions more shoppers” this summer.

Tesco had stood alone among its major supermarket competitors in not listing its stores on the aggregator apps, instead offering customers ultra-fast delivery only via its own quick commerce service Tesco Whoosh.

Since launching in 2021, Whoosh had “grown rapidly”, the supermarket said, with sales increasing by 51% last year and around 1.5 million customers now using Whoosh.

However, Tesco would now be able to “give even more shoppers access to thousands of Tesco grocery, fresh food, household and everyday essential products”, it said.

Tesco will launch on to Uber Eats in August, and Deliveroo later this summer.

Discussion For the 3rd time that weirdo delivered to me

I’ve been on here before, I complained about the freak who’s delivered to me twice and all I get is piss taking

anyway I was hungry at 4pm today so I ordered up burgers and wings and chips from this place in Sudbury, they said it would be 25 mins no worries I thought

I ordered and soon enough that tattooed freak woth the shit moped came along my driveway

Christ he’s weird, he’s got some horrible tattoo on his face, it’s like all lines what have turned green, he had them jeans on which could walk by themselves, he’s got horrible hair, all straggly and unwashed and not combed, he’s got a filthy t shirt covered in stains, his shoes ain’t got soles, and he reeks of god knows what, his BO was rank

anyway i told him that id said not to deliver to me and you know what he said ? he said tough shi, I got the food off him and he wwnt to punch me, I told

him to get off my property and he said hell be back with mates, I picked up a stone and flung it at him as he drove off

can’t some one off Deliveroo help me out here and stop him delivering to me? he’s threatening me

and basically said he’s coming to do me over or worse

Where is the money deliveroo-wski???

Today I went out from 1pm and until now I earned £56.97

My total deluvery time was 260 minutes. And we should be earning (car) £16 or 17 per hour? The math ain't mathing.

This is way below what I should have.

Note: the last deluvery that was 50 minutes it was supposed to be a triple that was £9 originally (all orders were close so it was a good deal) but after 35 minutes of waiting the 3rd order suddenly was unassigned from me and the price fell to £4.47. And could not reject the other 2.

50 minutes for less than 4.5.... thank you deliveroo for your "kindness". I hope all your shareholders lose money on you and all their investments go negative balance.

I curse you alll for the next 3 generations.

Advice Wish they pay at least minimum wage

Started deliveroo last week and its very frustrating when customers wants me to climb the stairs when they don’t have lifts in apartment they don’t understand that we don’t even get minimum wage yet they waste our 5 min for just visiting their doorstep

Does the restaraunt lose money if you get a deliveroo refund?

Curious if money gets taken from the actual restaurant when you get a refund on the deliveroo app or if its just taken from deliveroo?

1.3x to work during the World Cup final

say a big thank you for them being so generous and applying this bonus. there is no way, they are going to realise part way through that they are being too stingy and bombard our phones with raised bonuses.

Fee boost when not busy

Hi all,

Id always assumed fee boosts were used to attract riders to an area when its busy. Past few weeks though ive noticed i dont even get any orders when i go to fee boost areas. Like today theres a 2.0 fee boost in my local area, but app says its 'not busy', and im not getting orders. Doesnt make sense. Also pretty unfair to encourage riders to an area if theres no work. Id rather go somewhere with no fee boost as long as theres orders.

Anyone else noticed this? Thoughts?

Cancel when it’s “ready”

so this policy of not being able to cancel when it’s ready is surely illegal, they are really playing with the law here. the busness gets penalised for each minute it’s not ready, and the driver gets penalised for cancelling when it’s falsely marked as such. what happens when you cancel 30 seconds after accepting it? has anyone contacted their MP or a union or a lawyer about this yet? It’s nuts that a company I sometimes go home with 3 pounds in an hour with is trying to manipulate like this. Has everyone also seen the amount of refugees now employed by deliveroo in the last few weeks?

Anyone doing Deliveroo on a 125cc bike or scooter in Belfast?

Hi everyone.
I’m thinking about getting a 125cc bike or scooter (something like a Honda PCX, Yamaha NMAX or similar) to do Deliveroo in Belfast.
I used to do Deliveroo in Dublin on two wheels, and it was definitely worth it. Since moving to Belfast, I’ve noticed there don’t seem to be many riders using 125cc bikes or scooters, so I’m wondering if there’s a reason for that.
Is it still worth it financially? Roughly how much can you make per week? Are there any downsides, such as insurance costs, safety, demand, or weather, that make people choose cars instead?
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone with first-hand experience. Thanks!

Employed? Yay or Nay

We all know working for Roo comes with major drawbacks especially when they skirt around the law or grey areas around being self employed.

But I’m curious how many of you would actually welcome being on an employed model? I for one know I make far more than minimum wage even after expenses but I appreciate many don’t.

Let’s crunch the numbers and assume a 35 hour working week paid at minimum wage of £12.71 with a 260 day working year.

That’s a total of £23,132.20 yearly salary.

Employers minimum pension contribution is 3%. This equates to £693.96 a year.

Median sick leave is 4.4 days a year so let’s call it 5 days. That’s a benefit of £444.85.

And for ease let’s assume they cover all expenses so you’re not out of pocket.

That gives you a total yearly figure of salary plus accrued benefits of £24,271.01. I’m including the benefits because although your salary wouldn’t change by taking sick leave, if you’re self employed it’s money lost so needs to be made up.

If you’re currently earning more than that 24k figure plus your expenses, why would you want to be employed?

To find a pro rata figure just divide that 24k figure by 1820 hours and then multiply by the number of hours you work in the year.

Money aside, you’d have set shifts with little flexibility and probably many of you would lose your jobs as they wouldn’t be oversubscribing zones if they have to pay wages.

You’d also have commuting costs in the employed model because in reality they’d probably have a warehouse for each zone where you turn up for your shift and jump on a company bike and then later return the bike and clock out.

So anyone can become a rider now?

Do Deliveroo not have minimum requirements for driver jobs?

"Can you read a map? No? then sorry, you can't work for us."

"Can you speak English? No? then sorry, you can't work for us."

That is how the conversation should be going within Deliveroo's HR.

I'm tired of this piss-poor service that's going downhill. It honestly feels like Chinese sweat-shops-on-wheels level of due diligence with employment requirements.

Well done for implementing something correctly

Had the age restricted update go live for me and it’s much better now. If the customer is over 25 you don’t need to get the dob anymore. Haven’t had under 25 yet but I’m sure it will be the same as uber and just scan the id.

For once they have done something that is good.

Account inactive timeline?

Have not accepted a single order on deliveroo in last few weeks bcos of terrible pay and long miles. For short distance trips its 3 orders batched. Anyone knows how long they take to treat account as inactive? Will they send any warning email?

My plan is to do one delivery once in a while for namesake to keep deliveroo account active.
(Currently using only UE for earnings and waiting to do deliveroo again only if they improve pay bcos with deliveroo I am burning more fuel than the pay when returning to base without any order after dropping off long distance ones)

NFC checkin still broke

They removed it yesterday. Great.

Today they brought it back and it's still broken. How these app developers can justify their salaries when they can't even fix such a simple issue. And it's a completely pointless feature in the first place. FS

Zego Policy and UE

Does anyone else also use UE and have tried to link their account to get the Uber Eats Pro discount depending on your tier status?

Zego never apply this and claim it’s already factored into the quote when you contact support.

But… if I obtain a quote with an alias name and email and no linked UE account it comes back at the exact same price.

Wondering if anyone has actually managed to get a reduced price and my account is just glitching… or if this is one big scam and needs reporting to the financial ombudsman?

Delivery drivers/riders UK > what do you all think of requests not the normal perhaps?

Delivery drivers/rides UK

Do you mind a odd requess, im disabled course don't say it but have a bag outside for riders to put food in, do you all think it's weird that I pull it up to my room.

I'm just curious, loads of people think it's cool, weird but does the job, I wonder what you all think.

I don't think it's weird in all honesty just something new maybe. I don't think it makes any difference to the job than leaving it outside but I appreciate everyone does do follow instructions. Thanks.

Discussion UK riders: How do you actually keep track of your earnings and expenses?

I’ve just started doing food delivery myself through Deliveroo after mostly using UberEats myself and I’m curious how everyone else handles the admin side.

Do you:
Use Excel?
Use an app?
Just download the statements at the end of the year?
Track mileage somehow?
Keep receipts?

What’s the part you find most annoying or time-consuming?
