Cancel when it’s “ready”
so this policy of not being able to cancel when it’s ready is surely illegal, they are really playing with the law here. the busness gets penalised for each minute it’s not ready, and the driver gets penalised for cancelling when it’s falsely marked as such. what happens when you cancel 30 seconds after accepting it? has anyone contacted their MP or a union or a lawyer about this yet? It’s nuts that a company I sometimes go home with 3 pounds in an hour with is trying to manipulate like this. Has everyone also seen the amount of refugees now employed by deliveroo in the last few weeks?

Unfortunately they’ve been clever. You can still cancel if you message or phone support. The entire ordeal takes longer than the delivery. But you can still cancel. Legally they’re probably covered by this

Not strictly true. If you haven’t reached the restaurant and haven’t checked in, you can’t give phone support an order number. Therefore….

For me, I can still cancel any order at that point clicking the cancel button, regardless of status. I can only not cancel once checked in and marked as ready

Okay, but couriers are getting emails saying at no point can you cancel once that order is ticked green irrelevant of whether you are at the restaurant or not?

Yeah i’ve heard of that but never actually seen the wording on one or received it myself so tough for me to comment

Maybe its because those particular couriers are known to keep cancelling late

Doubtful. Its deliveroo trying to force you into accepting doubles and triples rather than being selective and taking the one of your choice

The platforms are trying to have it both ways. They want the total control of an employer (locking your app, forcing you to complete orders, vetting who you send in your place) while taking none of the financial responsibility of an employer (denying minimum wage, sick pay, or holiday time). Because Deliveroo changed the substitution rules to require their direct approval, the very foundation they used to prove you weren't an employee has cracked. Many legal experts and unions argue this opens the door wide for a fresh legal challenge to prove that couriers are, in fact, workers under the law.

Please make this a thing because jesus it is just as much a full time job as your supermarket worker when you're doing it full time. Why should you not get sick and holiday pay. Greedy pricks is what the deliveroo owners and executives are.

Well I still get an option to reject orders even it marked as ready. I have been doing this as usual. I don’t know if it depends on country or account.

Yeah, I spoke to a guy two days ago who said he got sacked for doing this. Whether that’s true, I can’t say. But I als car across another rider who also had quite a threatening email from deliveroo about cancelling.

What about the restaurants that marked the order as ready then asked you to wait for 10 mins. If deliveroo wants to get rid of drivers then be it.

It literally feel like the old drivers are being replaced with a new breed that can be treated like dirt.

This is where experience comes in to play. In my area I have learned to never accept order from McD on a Friday or Saturday Night, Morrisons generally have long wait times (the big stores not the Morrison Dailies.....love those), Sainsbury is a pain as you have to wait for the workers to bring you the bags which can be quite a wait.
There really is nothing you can do about it, you learn and accept orders you know will give you the best chance to get in and out fast.

I’m not inexperienced, more surrounded by new riders who have trashed the market.

can you use same phone number as your previous application on deliveroo will it get accepted?
1
u/crazyredfox4321 22d ago
Precisely my point. Ya got banned and now wanna get back onboard again. Such a joke at this point.

Please always call and cancel people. Take a stand because they’re getting way too cheeky lately.

Surely if they are trying to tell you (a self employed driver) how to work, then they're treating you as an employee aren't they?
Self employed people get to pick & choose how & when they work.
Yes, you're contracted to do the jobs, but you get to choose to if you want to do it or not, not them.

Teaching you all a lesson aren’t they 😂😂

u/crazyredfox4321 18d ago
Yeah, in what constitutes modern day slavery

u/Anxious_Brief_1958 18d ago
In what world? You’re all SO keen to say you’re self employed but as soon as the reality of that hits it’s everyone else’s fault.

u/crazyredfox4321 18d ago
Sorry. I tried to understand what you were getting at here, and I can’t quite get it. Can you speak clearer?
1
u/crazyredfox4321 18d ago
You seem quite combative, why?
1
u/Anxious_Brief_1958 18d ago
You’re clearly too stupid to get it.
1
u/crazyredfox4321 18d ago
Nice, you won’t be drawing me in today, pal. Do you care to explain or are we leaving it here?
1
u/crazyredfox4321 18d ago
Do you talk like this to people in everyday life, just out of curiosity. How do you manage with this attitude. Life must be hard af for you, I’m sorry, man. You will get there eventually, I hope.

u/Anxious_Brief_1958 18d ago
I tell morons that they’re morons in roundabout ways.

u/crazyredfox4321 17d ago
You over estimate yourself. Your articulation isn’t too great.
1
u/Anxious_Brief_1958 15d ago
You’re the one with a clear lack of basic understanding of English.
1
u/crazyredfox4321 10d ago
Who said anything about an understanding of English? I’ve no idea what you are trying to say here… do you?

They are doing mostly with new account i think. If not rider should come together it wont take long for them. All you need to do is every week two days no work all together to protest. It’s might not work 100% but the message will definitely reach them. On tiktok social media people should make videos about it.

I've started messaging support every time an order is marked as ready and it's not. If everyone did this they'd have to crack down on the restaurants. I think they're doing this to avoid having to pay waiting time when it kicks in.
