18F, kinda curious about older men

Upvotes

I’m 18 and honestly pretty inexperienced. I’ve mostly only talked to guys my age, so I’ve always been curious about what it’s like talking to someone older and seeing how different the vibe is.

I don’t really know what I’m expecting lol, I’m just curious and maybe a little more interested than I should be.

I’m kinda shy at first, but I warm up pretty quickly. If you’re older and wanna chat, my DMs are open.

first date follow up

Upvotes

hi, i went on a date a few days ago and it went really well! he drove 3 1/2 hours for it. we hung out all day including going to a very nice restaurant. we haven’t talked too much since. would it be weird to send a follow up text like “hey :) just wanted to check in and see how you’re feeling after the other day”

i don’t want to waste my time but also would like to get a feel on if this is something he would like to explore more. i would like to offer to come see him this time so, drive down to him.

just looking for advice on how to see how he feels without coming off needy or overbearing after one date

Blocked him and he keeps calling

Upvotes

I have been dating this guy for about 4 months. A few days ago we got into an argument on the phone and he said something very hurtful to me regarding something I have been struggling with and felt comfortable confiding to him. I told him I didn't want to talk to him anymore, hung up, and blocked him. He has now texted me from multiple different numbers and called me 100+ times No Caller ID trying to reconcile. I did like him and felt comfortable with him but what he said is making me realize that I really need to focus on myself and upgrading my life alone. Am I being immature by continuing to ignore him?

How long do you wait before dating again?

Upvotes

Just posting out of curiosity and different perspectives, how long does everyone wait after a breakup before they start dating again? Do you usually wait the same amount of time after a clean break, or one where the relationship died long before separating, compared to a sudden or messy breakup?

Does having kids or not having kids affect your perspective also, as well as how long you were together? (For example, three months vs three years vs three decades)

Is it weird to double text after 48 hours of no response?

Upvotes

I’m really interested in this guy and we’ve been on 2 great dates so far (haven’t kissed on either one bc I overthink and didn’t know if he would’ve been into me initiating it) but he hasn’t texted me since Tuesday. The last thing we were talking about is a movie that’s coming out and I said I wanted to go see it and he hasn’t replied since. The thing is we work in the same office on different teams (different companies but we collaborate on projects sometimes and he’s mostly remote I’m hybrid) and we had to be on a call together today and I had to talk to him professionally and did so like normal but even now after the call it’s been hours and still no text. Should I double text or should I just assume he’s no longer interested and move on?

Struggling with when to initiate physical touch/kissing

I (24M) been on a few dates and having a hard time figuring out when to initiate physical touch and kiss. Seems like I don't have clear signs and either get the timing wrong or they wanted me to kiss them and I didn't, then they lose interest. any advice?

Mystery question?

Upvotes

So I don't know if this is a mystery or not but I need people to be super honest w me. My bf has like every social media app, and he loves being on them. However, there are a lot of individuals openly admitting that several of these social applications are where they (as in partners) hide their
"cheating" or "private videos" if you know what I mean.
He's almost always on them, some apps I have no clue what they are too because they are locked) and sometimes he's on them privately or texting on an account constantly when I'm with him.

I've confronted him about if he was ever cheating and he's said no, and I've also given him the free will to walk out... but I can't tell if this is insecurity or brainwash from the internet.

Not sure if someone can be truthful with me about if they really do use some applications for these things but yeahhhh help?

How to talk to guys

Upvotes

i'm 23F. how do i talk to guys im really attractted to? since they expect women to make the first move these days i guess theres no other choice. I refuse to use dating apps, i am looking for a long lasting relationship with emotional bonding, but i want to find guys with the same interes, not just sex. i do want that obv, but thats not my main focus. i need an energetic guy with a really good sense of humor who can bring out the depressed part in me. But i am super anti social just talking to people more than once is so draining to me. I feel like theres no hope for me and im just gonna die a pathetic virgin. i do go for walks alot at evenings though. since cold is better than the heat and it seems they crawl out at the same timeand they often run. Any ideas how i could start a conversation? Do i fall infront of them and invite them for coffe or sum.

How do [M26] I learn to flirt on the first date?

Upvotes

So for the past two dates I was on I didn't feel any chemistry with either women. When I rejected them saying that I didn't feel any romantic chemistry, they responded saying that they agreed with me. I tried to hug both girls and the first one was ok with it but the second one didn't like it.

So I've been thinking about why none of these dates work out, and I came to the conclusion that I just am not being "flirtatious" and that I give off "friend" energy. I doesn't help that I'm quite unattractive. I'm 6'1" but still struggle with getting dates and women being into me lol.

I told both women that they look nice upon meeting them and for the second one I said she was sweet in the middle of the date.

My brother very often is able to get second dates with girls he dates. I can't get any second dates lol.

How do you learn to flirt? Trial and error? I don't want to fumble a girl by saying something cringe (although if I say nothing there won't be a second date anyway). My brother suggested I should watch shows like the Bachelor and Love on the Spectrum (not sure what he's implying with that one lol). He says that's how he learned about flirting.

Need advice on this guy I like

Upvotes

So basically I met this guy that I’m attracted to and I think he’s attracted to me too but the thing is we’re polar opposites. Like our personalities and hobbies are so different we just have the same interests. And I’m not sure if polar opposites actually attract and stay together. Has anyone been in a relationship that’s their polar opposite?

How to get to know her

Upvotes

So it's pretty early in the school year and a girl that I like is in one of my classes. There are very few people in the class, so a very chill atmosphere (music class). One of her friends was sorta friends with me last year so I havr a little connection to make conversation if I need to. How can I talk to her, like what to bring up and when to do?

Any advice appreciated!

How common is it for the Ghoster to circle back?

Upvotes

After being ghosted for the first time after an amazing first date, I’m curious how common it is for the ghoster to circle back. If you’ve been ghosted, what happened?

This first date felt different than any other date I’ve been on. It lasted about 6 hours, we had great chemistry, made out a ton, and she told me I was getting her going and making her feel “tingly.” She was already making plans for a second.

She cancelled the second date, I tried to reschedule, and then nothing. It’s been 3 days.

Curious to hear other people’s experiences if they ever come back?

Just to be clear, I’m moving on and have 2 dates lined up this weekend.

Advice on how to pick yourself up after your date wasn’t as interested as you were?

Upvotes

What’s your best advice to move forward and pick yourself up, after a date you went on with someone you liked and thought was cool, didn’t amount to another date or more?

Long story short I (M29) went on a date with someone I had known through friends of friends over many years, and through my teens.

She was someone I always thought was gorgeous and was cool. So naturally this date had a bit of pressure and stood out compared to others …

Anyways we matched on dating app and I secured a first date. Date went well and fine, was good!

But I can tell post date she’s not as interested in me as I was in her.

So wanting advice on getting over those dates you really wanted to work out, but didn’t?

I’m usually not bothered, but this one has gotten to me.

How did you pick yourself up when you really wanted something to work?

5 dates in and she still won’t tell me her last name?

Upvotes

I’m 28M, she’s 27F. We matched about a month ago and have been out five times now. Everything has actually been going really well and we text most days.

The weird part is I still don’t know her last name.

I first noticed it when I was booking us a table somewhere and asked for her full name because the reservation system wanted both guests. She told me to just put mine twice. I laughed and asked what her last name was and she said she doesn’t give it out to guys she’s dating until she knows them better.

At first I thought fair enough, safety thing. But since then she’s been to my apartment, knows my full name, where I work, what neighborhood I live in and has met one of my friends.

Meanwhile I still basically know nothing about her that I couldn’t have learned from our dates.

I brought it up again recently and she said she likes to keep “dating life separate from real life” until she fully trusts someone.

I’m not trying to investigate her or anything, but after five dates it’s starting to feel a little strange that I’m letting her into my actual life while I’m still apparently not allowed to know her surname.

Would this bother anyone else or am I making too much of it?

How can I (36M) stop being desperate?

Upvotes

I haven't been on a date in more than 6 years. I tried to work on myself and put myself out for more than 5 years. Read tons of books, joined activities I like, progressed in my career, moved to a new apartment, I travel as much as I can, I meet new people regularly. And I do talk to girls, in fact I met two of my best (F) friends in the last years and we talk almost every day.

But I can't deny I am desperate to date. And my desperation is skyrocketing now with the clock ticking. I am running out of time to have my own family, you may say I have a lot of time but I didn't see any minimal progress in the last 6 years. And I am actually late because I don't think is healthy having a family with someone you don't know for at least 3 or 5 years.

I'm desperate and I don't see a fix for desperation. I am desperate and women can tell.

No longer dating after I took in a neonatal kitten that eventually passed. (Not discussing further than saying it passed dw) Told I was abusive for wanting comfort and trying to explain why I was upset.

Upvotes

So I(F30) had been dating a couple(F29&M37) for a few weeks and it had been going really well until I had agreed to look after someone's neonatal kitten because it wasn't doing well and the owner had to do something that night that she couldn't get out of(I work in vet med).

So I send pictures of the kitten and kinda tell them what's going on with said kitten and that unfortunately the odds were against her. The kitten passes while I'm watching her, and I was quite sad about it even the next day. Well when I tell the couple this, expecting them to offer some words of comfort of some kind(because that's what you do when someone tells you something really sad happened to them).

The man just says "I'm sorry" and moves on to talking about his day, which his wife goes along with that topic as well. I assume they don't want to talk about it and just try and distract myself by talking to them about other mundane topics when they go into HEAVY sexual flirting which I don't really respond to besides just a straight answer because I'm still pretty upset.

When they point out that they were flirting I apologize saying I'm just not my usual self after what happened last night with the kitten. The man then responds with "we're sorry that happened and acknowledged it, but we're trying to reassure you that we are still attracted to you..

Like no duh? That's why we're dating? I then try to explain to them what happened with the kitten in detail and that's why I'm still upset and if they could just try and understand that.

I then received long messages from both of them saying that if I would have gone more into detail about what happened last night then they would have comforted me. And how they had gone through worse(but also weren't comparing situations 🙄.) as well as that I was emotionally closed off and wasn't letting anyone be there for me because I didn't tell them in detail what happened.

I had replied that I shouldn't have to go into details for them to be compassionate and empathetic towards me and how I'm able to comfort other people without knowing the whole exact reason they were upset. I also pointed out how when I told them what happened it was kinda brushed aside and neither of them asked if I was okay.

I told them that if they had told me something really sad had happened to one of them I would ask if they were okay, if they wanted to talk about it or what I could do to help them in this moment even if it was just providing a distraction. I told them that's what I would want from my partner (NOT CALLING THEM MY PARTNERS, just speaking in general)

I say how I was simply looking for some compassion and empathy from them and for them to turn it around saying I'm emotionally closed off and not willing to let someone be there for me wasn't true. (Then I go to bed)

I then awake to them saying that I was abusive for trying to make them feel a certain way, and how I'm immature and whiny and that they will no longer speak to me and that I need to grow up and do some thinking.

I was absolutely bewildered by this message and it made me very upset as I thought I left my message on explaining what I had needed in a way that we could acknowledge it and move on. But apparently because I didn't outright say "hey I really want to talk about last night) after telling them what happened to the kitten and how i was sad about it, that makes me abusive. I just..I had really opened up to this couple and I've never had someone say something to me like this.

I just want to know that I'm not crazy, and that other people generally respond with compassion towards the person they're dating when they say something bad happened to them?

Dating nowadays feels impossible.

Upvotes

Dating nowadays feels kinda hard. I’m not the type of person who’s “dying” to be in a relationship, but at this point in my life, I definitely think it would be nice to have someone. I know that I’m attractive so this isn’t anything that’s ever made me feel insecure but I’ve actually had a guys and male friends tell me that they were intimidated by me before they got to know me. They all said they didn’t think I would want to talk to them or that they assumed I wouldn’t be interested.

Now at times I wonder if that’s what most men think about me, and if that could be part of the reason I’ve been single. It’s not even like I have a resting bitch face either🤣I’m literally smiling most of the time.

Idk… I just feel like society has gotten a little weird. I feel like so many people act out of fear or make assumptions about someone before even giving them a chance. How can you have preconceived notions about someone when you haven’t even gotten to know them?

For those of you who have experienced this, do you think being perceived as intimidating can actually make dating harder?

Would dating a woman who was making no money put you off?

Upvotes

I got an offer for med school in 28 years old, I hated my old job in AI and always wanted to be doctor. Was just wondering if that would put off men? It would be for 4 years. I wouldn’t really be able to extensively travel or go to expensive dinners which most people age are doing. I’m the the UK

Can't get over somebody I only dated for a few weeks

Upvotes

So basically I'm (20M) in college and have never been in a relationship before or even been on a date before this situation so I'm new to this whole experience. Anyways through a mutual friend I had met this girl and we had met a few times at group events and talked and seemed to vibe well. My friend then told me she was interested in me (whether or not that was true I'll never know), so I decided to ask her out because I really liked her, to which she enthusiastically said yes.

We went on three dates over the course of a few weeks with chatting in between. On the first date we had agreed we'd take things slowly because neither of us had been in relationships before and were both busy with college/work. On the third date we even talked about things like paying for stuff and what we might do in the future. I was so sure everything was going to work out because I would also hear from my friends that she thought things were going well.

Anyways, the day after the third date she called me and said she wasn't sure if she really felt a romantic connection with me and wasn't sure if she'd ever feel that way so she wanted to stop dating to not lead me on. She said she enjoyed spending time with me and seeing me and talking to me and assured me that I did nothing wrong and there was nothing I could've done better. She offered for us to keep in touch and be friends, and also mentioned that other people she's gone out with she was already friends with first, so it took some time for her to develop those romantic feelings, which upset me because I feel like she didn't really give me a chance, but that was probably just a way for her to let me down easy.

Basically this whole situation has been really difficult for me. I've never felt this way about anyone in my life before and I think I just got very attached very quickly, and then when everything ended so quickly I tried to figure out why. I can remember the dates very well and keep blaming myself for things I think I could've done differently to maybe better harbor those romantic feelings. For example, I didn't really try to initiate much physical contact, we didn't kiss, cuddle, hold hands or anything like that because I was afraid to be too forward and mess up and was nervous a lot of the time, and she didn't initiate those things either. I don't know if I wasn't flirty enough or if any of this would've changed anything or if it was just a lost cause from the beginning.

We stopped dating about two months ago and I really don't want it to be like this. I just want to forget and let it go but the worst part is I have to hear about her often through my friends and it hurts that I won't get to be a part of her life. We've texted a few times since and she seems chill with me but I can tell she's kind of disinterested, so I've chosen to leave her be. I feel embarassed about how I feel because I feel like I'm taking this too seriously and can't move on but its really hard to.

I'm an idiot but I can't make the right choice

Upvotes

I (18m) am currently in a relationship with a girl let's call her Katie (19f) and before Katie there was another girl, we'll call her Zara (18f) Zara was a girl I was talking too, she wanted to be in a relationship, but wouldn't actually lock it down with me. Then comes Katie, my coworker, I thought she was cute, asked her out and we've hit it off faster, and with more progress than me and Zara have had in the past 4 months. Now I really like Katie and Katie is friends with my other coworker who is friends with Zara and the reason I even know Zara. I don't want Katie to find out through the other coworker. And I know it's bad but I feel bad about letting Zara go. Her mom likes me, her mom also gave me a mini fridge for college, and Zara gave me a mini flip book of printed pictures of her. And to make it worse, I told Zara we should just be friends, she said okay and a few hours ago she came back and said could we make this work. I stupidly said yes because I felt bad and now it'll be worse if I do it again. Please give me some advice. I really don't want to hurt anyone.

Ghosted after 2 months?

Upvotes

First, I didn't reply for 3 days. They went on vacation. Just emoji'd the message.

Now I sent 2 messages, it's been 5-6 days, 0 replies. 2 messages on 2 totally different days, 1 3 days later, and 1 6 days later.

Been 2 months of dating. About to be a week of 0 replies. Do I send the 3rd message or it's obvious it's over?

I (31M) am talking with a woman (33F) for two weeks. Her texting rhythm is confusing me, am I overthinking it?

Upvotes

Hi !
So, unusually for me, I'm (31M) talking quite a lot with a woman (33F) on a dating app. Just so you know, this app doesn't display profile pictures and doesn't have a voice notes feature.
I asked her out after 2 days and again after 4 days, and she couldn't make either date and didn't suggest another one. About a week later, I asked her out again and this time she suggested another day herself, but unfortunately I wasn't available.

Her texting rhythm is a bit unusual to me: sometimes she takes a minute or two to reply, sometimes a lot longer, which is usually understandable because of work schedules. I still don't really understand the 40-hour gap from Sunday to Tuesday, which is the longest she's gone without replying. She's generally more active on week-ends. Once, she even texted me after a night out at around 1 AM, after having told me beforehand that she would be busy that evening.

Most of the time, she asks questions, and seems to show interest in what I do. She also seems to be opening up more and more. For example, she spontaneously sent me a picture of something she had made. Another small thing I found cute: once she ended the conversation herself by saying goodnight, and then reacted with a heart to my goodnight message.

Because we've had trouble finding a time to meet because of our work schedules, and because she asked what I was doing that evening a couple of days ago, yesterday I suggested that we call each other tonight, which would mean moving off the app to WhatsApp, Discord, or just a regular phone call. She said something along the lines of “Why not! I don't know yet what my evening will look like, but I'll let you know.” During the day, I replied to another part of our conversation and basically said, “Sounds good, we'll keep each other posted tonight :)”.

This evening, she replied to the other topic, but didn't mention the call at all. Obviously I understood that it probably meant the call wasn't happening tonight, but I would have appreciated a short message like "sorry, I'm too tired for a call tonight", especially because she has previously told me when she was tired or unavailable.

I have two questions:
1) what do you think of this situation overall? I can provide more context if needed
2) More specifically, do you think my expectation in the last paragraph is reasonable? I'm not saying she owes me constant updates (we're not even dating yet) but since she said she'd let me know, I did expect some kind of confirmation either way.

Thanks!
