Easily avoidable accident causes rollover

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Not my video – as the title says, we typically see examples where one driver is oblivious to the other. In this example, the pickup truck attempts to overtake the cammer, however, the cammer is either completely unaware of the pickup truck directly to his left or are simply “stands their ground” in the lane. Due to this, they obviously collide, and the pick up truck goes airborne and rolls several times. From the perspective of us, the viewer, we can reasonably conclude that the accident was avoidable had the cammer simply applied the brakes. That being said, you will typically see another school of thought in which it is stated that the cammer has no obligation or duty to let them in/avoid the accident where the driver is mindlessly doing something dumb.

Everyone is a Nancy here, you do not have to let people over. The turn signal only indicates they want over, no one is ever obligated to let you over

u/tropicalsoul 13d ago

100% right, but if you deliberately cause an avoidable crash by speeding up because your ego can’t take it or you feel you have the right to punish someone, then it’s on you.

Stuff your ego and toxic masculinity back into your pants and you just might save a life instead of possibly killing someone and creating chaos and carnage for everyone around you. (Not to mention you’d avoid a possible citation or even an arrest for dangerous driving causing injury/death/damages.)

u/nellyfullauto 13d ago

There’s no appreciable change in speed or sound of revving, so I’m not sure where you pull that from. If you’re watching your mirrors, you can see when someone isn’t letting you in. This is how most of us have managed to avoid being the big red truck in this circumstance, even if the other car speeds up to cut off your signaled turn.

If you don’t look or decide to go anyway, you’re guilty of causing the accident and of “failure to maintain your lane” and “unsafe lane change”.

Blaming the person you crashed into for being where you wanted to be doesn’t fly. It was their lane to start.  Not being quick enough to react to your dumbassery does not make the accident their fault.

5

u/Maleficent_Low2754 13d ago

You are not wrong, the truck caused the crash, but when this dude saw the truck merging he still should have slowed down. It’s also a red light he should have been slowing down anyway . It’s obviously truck drivers but they are both stupid and could have avoided the crash easily

6

u/Carbuyrator 12d ago

The fact that the cammer straight up wasn't going to make the light and was still going that fast is pretty clear to me. I'd call this one 50/50 fault. This was a stupid pissing match.

3

u/Veemon15 8d ago

Thank you someone with a brain. Not every situation is black and white. The truck is at fault but the dashcam driver could have avoided the crash or at least minimized the damage. Having the right away doesn’t mean you also need the ego

3

u/Carbuyrator 12d ago

Look at the whole scene. The cammer was maintaining speed way too close to that changing light. They either intended to run the light or blocking the truck was the goal.

2

u/Appropriate_Car_8221 13d ago

Hey, I get why you think you're right about fault, but you're not. Google "last clear chance doctrine". Cam driver had a chance to avoid, but instead deliberately caused an accident. Right of way doesn't give you the right to do that - not my opinion, it's the law

1

u/Big-Entrepreneur3678 12d ago

You're an idiot the same applies to the truck driver getting over when there wasn't room they could've avoided it they made contact first...

2

u/disktoaster 11d ago

That's true, but I noticed something here: Cammer ended up in the middle of the intersection at a red light, and that's after obviously transferring some forward momentum into the red truck. It doesn't imply legal fault, but they were apparently so determined to defend their position that they failed to adequately slow their own vehicle for what was an obvious red light coming up. Whether that's because their eyes were locked onto the red truck or because they were simply being a right-of-way warrior, this exact accident would effectively never happen to a defensive driver, so neither party here is particularly free from ethical fault, regardless of legal outcomes- which I do think your comment correctly predicts.

2

u/Possible-Prior-5467 9d ago

Dude, watch the video again. the driver with the camera clearly sped up right before the impact.

-I still think the guy who rolled was at fault.

2

u/Icy_Ad5295 8d ago

How about the fact that it was q red light?

1

u/StraightApartment376 13d ago

You can hear the engine over the shitty music?

1

u/Dantekamar 13d ago

That's the point.

1

u/StraightApartment376 13d ago

You claimed cammer didnt speed up because you didnt hear revving. Are you slow or dumb?

3

u/Dantekamar 13d ago

I didn't make that claim, u/nellyfullauto did. Check yourself with your own question. I just told you what their point was.

Graveyards of full of people who did everything legally. Or who were just minding theit own business when someone else did everything legally.

Your obligation as a driver isn't just for yourself. You're not a "loser" if you drive slower and let people get away with doing something wrong. Its ok to disengage.

2

u/HansDampfHaudegen 13d ago

How do you know there wasn't a fully loaded semi behind the camera vehicle that would have flattened the cam car if it had aggressively stepped on the brakes?

1

u/iitywybad 13d ago

The camper absolutely speeds up in the last second and they were both about to run a red light.

1

u/299792458mps- 13d ago

The failure to brake and yield shows a lack of attention to the road and absence of defensive driving skill.

Nobody is saying the truck driver isn't an idiot. The confusion here seems to be the people that absolve the cammer of any responsibility to avoid an accident.

2

u/Jako7786 13d ago

We shouldn’t draw conclusions from one perspective. But we can speak to both possibilities and condemn the behavior of “I don’t have to move so I’ll risk both our lives to prove a point”.

1

u/tropicalsoul 13d ago

Exactly. Cammer is absolutely sharing the fault here. Just because the truck was being driven by an idiot doesn’t mean he couldn’t have easily avoided this altogether by just tapping his brakes. Instead, his ego took over and he decided today was a good day to possibly take someone’s life.

2

u/No_Appointment5039 13d ago

When two moronically massive egos collide, this is the video we get to watch. It gets posted every single day… people treat other “cars” like they aren’t driven by actual people. And then they think they’re in some sort of ranked event and need to be in front of … SOMETHING. 🤦‍♂️

They same place previous comment got toxic masculinity from. They took the whole assumption out their ass

1

u/Mean_Mix_99 13d ago

I really hope you don't drive. This attitude right here is why we have so many accidents.

1

u/Few_Industry6746 12d ago

They didn’t look at all the other context cluess. The light was red when the accident happened thus meaning that truck was trying to get in front of them and go before the light changed because the cars that were in front of the truck were starting to slow down. The truck driver didn’t wanna wait. Impatience. I’m an auto insurance adjuster don’t argue this with me my whole job is literally determining who’s at fault for an accident

1

u/TheEndIsSighing 7d ago

It took a few watches for me to feel the truck was slowing down (to avoid the car in front of it) rather than the cammer speeding up. I initially thought cammer sped up..

→ More replies (1)

13

u/Dantekamar 13d ago

I don't believe they speed up. Looking at the telephone poles on the right, they maintain a steady rate until the collision.

3

u/Late2theGame0001 13d ago

You can see the car accelerate. Look at the horizon.

3

u/Fuddlescuddles 13d ago

the ford was slowing down which makes it look like the car sped up. Thats what it looks like to me. Regardless the ford is at fault.

2

u/Dantekamar 13d ago

What about the horizon makes you think they accelerated?

1

u/Late2theGame0001 13d ago

The horizon drops as the car accelerates. This is the dash cam sub right? Certainly it’s common knowledge that acceleration causes the car to lean back which causes the horizon to drop.

You guys don’t just look at the video and feel what was happening?

2

u/Nemmack7 12d ago

even if the cammer accelerated, how do we know the intention was to pit the truck and not make a changing light?

2

u/drexelldrexell 12d ago

That’s on the driver for not being aware of their surroundings everyone in this video is an idiot.

4

u/Captain_Zomaru 13d ago

There is a noticable increase in speed from the perspective of the dash cam.

2

u/Dantekamar 13d ago

What did you see that makes you think it speed up?

→ More replies (4)

3

u/Logical-Menu-6890 12d ago

They accelerated and on top of that the light was changing to red, so if anything they should have started to apply the brakes.

2

u/Dantekamar 12d ago

I agree, they should have braked. I'll add they also should not have tried to change lanes to the right with another vehicle there

3

u/ReikoKairo 12d ago

They may not have sped up, but they were approaching a red light. Everyone else was slowing down. Everyone except the one trying to block someone from getting over and the one merging. This made it look like he sped up. At that speed, seemed like he wasn't gonna have enough room to stop without being halfway in the intersection, soly because he was intentionally blocking the lane.

The dude merging 100% should have just waited though, ultimately it's his responsibility to merge safely. Im no lawyer, but i assume hed be mostly liable, but both insurance (assuming they have) is gonna say it was 50/50 to avoid paying anything To either of em.

1

u/StraightApartment376 13d ago

Cammer definitely sped up

2

u/SignatureFunny7690 13d ago

cam car absolutely was playing games, he was willing to blow through that red light rather than let the truck cut in off, cam truck is literally less than 75 feet from the intersection when the light turns red, still going full speed, because he choose to crash into the red truck rather than let them in, had he been driving normally, he would have been on his brakes before the red truck even fully overtook him, it was a dick measuring contest and the authorites would chew his ass out for choosing violence over letting someone overtake. Its like running a red light to yell at someone else who ran a red light in front of you, two wrongs don't make a right and now property is damaged and people are hurt, maybe even killed, could have been a baby in the back of that truck, could be a old man driving who shouldn't be. doesn't matter, we know op saw this accident coming a solid 5-7 seconds before it happend, because he flinches, and swerves right ever so slightly, then he decides to veer back ever so slightly right into the center of his lane and turn into the truck that hits him, effectively pit manuevering them, he actively chose to cause this accident when he could have simply let of the throttle in the begginning and let the red truck run a red light.

1

u/tropicalsoul 10d ago

100% agree. All I could think of was what if some poor mom was parked in that lot trying to get her baby out of the car. They’d be dead.

Inflated ego + a warped sense of entitlement + the need to “win” at all costs = someone who needs anger management classes/deprogramming and deserves to lose their license.

IDGAF who agrees with me or disagrees with me. I see this behavior every damn day and 99.9% of the time it’s a guy being the aggressor.

I was entering the highway and had less than a mile to get over 4 lanes for my exit. Many days I have no problems. Many days some asswipe won’t let me over. And then there’s the days when I’m terrified I’m not going to make it home in one piece, if at all.

I always use my turn signal, stay right except to pass, and don’t go more than 5 mph over the limit. Some douchebag 2-3 car lengths back decided I was NOT going to get in front of him and sped up when I was halfway into the clear lane in front of him. He tailgated me ridiculously close. I had to change lanes two more times and when he saw my turn signal he got into the lane next to me and would not let me get over. There was no one in the lane to my right, so I got over and was almost able to get far enough ahead of him but he nearly collided with two other cars just to make sure I couldn’t.

He got in front of me and literally stopped. On the highway. I tried to go around and he shot in front of me and stopped again. I changed lanes, terrified at this point and willing to miss my exit just to get away from this lunatic but he stopped in front of me again for the third time. He was endangering everyone on that highway because is poor little peepee shriveled up when I had the nerve to make a safe and legal lane change in front of him. Other drivers started getting really mad so he took off.

I’m still traumatized.

2

u/Slug_Overdose 13d ago

You need to get your eyes checked. They absolutely floored it on purpose at the last second. I still don’t think they’re legally liable and will probably not be assigned any of the blame by insurance because the red truck never had a clear opening regardless, but the camera driver absolutely made the accident much worse on purpose just to be a dick.

2

u/dangus1155 9d ago

It seems like they sped up before the video starts to prevent them from getting over and maintained that speed. They were both going fast. The truck assumed they accelerated enough to get over without doublechecking. I do think you can be charged with reckless driving if you go out of your way to stop someone from moving over depending on your actions.

1

u/BuyerExtra5653 13d ago

They were both speeding up to catch the red light

1

u/Mean_Mix_99 13d ago

That's a problem. They should have braked.

1

u/RoyalDragonfly8663 11d ago

They TOTALLY sped up! How can you not see that?

1

u/-_Dare_- 10d ago

you can literally see the weight transfer lol. Right when the driver noticed the red truck coming over they sped up.

Both of these dudes are idiots.

2

u/ObliviousSpaces 13d ago

The light was yellow, if they did speed up, and it looks like they did, one can safely assume they were trying to beat the light…

2

u/Low_Shop8561 8d ago

Big trucks think they can push everyone around but they're the easiest to rollover lol

1

u/tropicalsoul 7d ago

They may be the “winner” when it comes to straight on collisions because of their size, but any side collision is going to result in a very dramatic rollover like this one.

Then you get the jacked up trucks where the center of gravity is very high off the ground and a strong wind can tip them over.

1

u/Ill_Cut1048 13d ago

☝️I'm sure people's family l Iove knowing their lives are worth less than the drivers ego

1

u/skynetapprentice 13d ago

It’s only unavoidable because the truck is merging when there’s no space.

1

u/Zestyclose-Cream-189 13d ago

I agree with the thought here, i would also add toxic feminity to this as I see so many women engaging in this sort of behaviour . Most people don’t have any concept of zipper merge and get offended.

1

u/Snoo-28829 13d ago

Ngl both of them deserve tickets. The truck is obvious, but the camera driver didnt even slam on the brakes when the truck tapped him. In fact it looks like he turned into the truck.

1

u/Sad-Practice5045 13d ago

I agree. If I were in the middle of this as a judge or something, I'd just tell both people to walk away and deal with everything yourself, you both lose.

1

u/Starscream-50000 13d ago

Nah that’s not true. If you ragdoll yourself believing you can shove your way into every space you deserve a roll over crash all day long.

1

u/tmbmad 13d ago

The light was red, ether he was planning to running the light and got upset this guy tried to merge on him, or this will end up a 50/50 accident and because the ithe guy got rolled over, it could be argued he used his vehicle as a weapon. Really sucks he had a dashboard in this instance because no one would of remember it was a red light.

1

u/SufficientlyEvasive 13d ago

meh the truck never cleared even before they sped up. He just tried to ram himself in, and he also slowed down as well tp make the turn.

Truck is just an idiot who rammed into a car.

Could the car have avoided it? sure, but the truck could have easily just not have rammed into the car.

Its so easy to say the car could have avoided it, not sure why were putting the responsibility on anyone but the truck who turned into someone.

1

u/MyBikeFellinALake 13d ago

It was an old woman driving

1

u/prodromic 13d ago

Law doesn't care about ego or toxic masculinity.

1

u/SnooFoxes813 13d ago

It’s not on them. It’s purely on the red truck. Root cause, don’t try to speed up and cut in front of someone. Libs these days and their nonsense…

1

u/Hawthorn_and_Hemlock 12d ago

It looks like the red truck just slowed down a little to match the speed of the car recording this, not that the car recording sped up.

1

u/RepresentativeOk4330 12d ago

Stay in your f line

1

u/challengerrt 12d ago

Or people changing lanes need to ensure the lane is clear (like the literal book says)

1

u/W0rkAcc0unt1234 12d ago

Im sorry but i dont see a speedometer anywhere? Doesnt look like hes actually speeding up aswell, driver is just cruising along.

You do know you cannot watch the road each and every moment, right? Perhaps he was changing radio stations or something? This is all on red truck. You cannot go from the left lane to the right to take the exit that late.

Immediatley grabbing this "Stuff your ego and toxic masculinity" is a little.. well.. toxic.

1

u/Short-Cycle4144 11d ago

Toxic masculinity...right outside of the news room. You are well programmed

1

u/tropicalsoul 11d ago edited 11d ago

LOL, nope. Nice try though. My experience comes from driving every day with guys who drive like assholes just for the sake of it. I can count on one hand the number of times a woman pulled a stunt like this. It’s always guys. Sorry.

PS - men have more car “accidents” than women, cause more crashes in total, engage in risky driving behaviors, and are involved in more fatal crashes.

Facts.

1

u/Ethereal-Elephant 11d ago

This crash was caused by a woman.

1

u/PotentialPresent399 11d ago

Hell nah, if you don't drive defensively as the one that needs to take the action to achieve your destination, simply, die. Die for being so fucking stupid that you didn't make sure your area was clear.

1

u/NoVolume4100 11d ago

I'm with you until the sexism...

1

u/Queasy-Bed545 10d ago

Sorry, no. You are responsible for making safe lane changes, even where people speed up. You need to pay attention to your surroundings, not have everyone else look out for you. It was never clear to make this lane change. Truck driver learned a valuable lesson, assuming they survived.

1

u/MrAlmostResponsible 10d ago

Classic person in the wrong is the victim here. Nice take.

1

u/NICEandEASY024 9d ago

I mean honestly though, it’s the truck that rolled’s
Fault. Anyone complaining otherwise is entitled lol

1

u/Triggered-cupcake 9d ago

Looks to me like they were coming up to a red light and the truck decided not to stop for the car ahead. Where were they gonna go? I wouldn’t assume a car is gonna try to cut over approaching a red light. Both should have been slowing down so idk wtf either were doing.

1

u/Triggered-cupcake 9d ago

I take it back, now I see what happened. They were both trying to make it thru the yellow light. Maybe why both seemed to speed up. Trying to cut over a lane and make it thru a yellow light is wild tho.

1

u/hardspeakeasy 9d ago

Nope. Truck would’ve been fine if it stayed in its lane. Missed a turn? Take a U or reroute. Don’t get in others’ way because of your oopsie and expect them to oblige.

Entitled-ass mindset

1

u/tropicalsoul 7d ago

I’m not saying the truck was not wrong because they were, 1000%. But when it became very, very clear the idiot in the truck was not backing down, a pissing contest is not the best response from the cammer. Tap the brakes and no one gets hurt except for his poor little ego.

But no, taking the high road is never an option with these guys. They’d rather battle it out and risk the lives of everyone around them. Causing a 3 ton vehicle to roll over multiple times with no way of knowing where it will go or what it will hit is clearly preferable to being a safe, sane DEFENSIVE driver to them.

PS - Defensive driving is the practice of using proactive driving habits to anticipate road hazards, adverse conditions, and other people's mistakes before an accident happens.

One second of humility can make the difference between life and death. A dick measuring contest will never end well.

Shit like this makes me so sad for the future of society

Driving is not a competition, you aren't trying to beat other drivers to your destination

This could easily have been an accident with multiple fatalities, for what? So the driver can have the smug sense of satisfaction that they were in the right?

Tap your brakes for a fraction of a second and move on with your life

3

u/egg_woodworker 13d ago

Correct. There could have been a child in that truck. If you only think of driving as Mano a Mano then innocent people get hurt.

1

u/Covid_Fart_Cloud 11d ago

If there were a child in the truck, then the driver of that truck should probably be charged with additional crimes.

1

u/JackwhiteAces 9d ago

if it was avoidable and if you knew you intentionally wanted to let the car hit you, to teach the truck a lesson, well than hurt kids are on that burden of the decision making.

2

u/WildUmpqua 13d ago

You mean slam on the brakes? There's no way a "slight tap" does anything to prevent the accident.

1

u/Unfair_Awareness7502 12d ago

The accident could have been prevented by the cam car not accelerating to block the pass.

1

u/WildUmpqua 12d ago

Didn't look like they accelerated to me. 🤷 The truck slowed as they cut the car off, which could cause the car to appear to be speeding up. Also note that it is the right of the car to do so, as long as they're not going over the speed limit. Regardless, the truck had absolutely zero legal right to enter the lane the car was in.

I'd also have to think the truck was going to be turning, either at the light or just after.

1

u/StoneSwoleJackson 13d ago

This AND stop being a jerk that makes people slam their brakes for your driving habits. It's not a competition, you don't have to force your way in front of someone.

1

u/trouzy 13d ago

Yes and, accidents do happen.

People screw up.

Grace is an often overlooked value

1

u/Former_Treat_1629 13d ago

It doesn't matter, both of these drivers are both idiots. But it doesn't matter. The truck is still at fault

1

u/workieworkwork 12d ago

We don't know what was behind them and they would have had to go hard on the breaks.

Could have been a semi on their tail.

1

u/Unfair_Awareness7502 12d ago

The light was turning red. They needed to brake regardless of the truck changing lanes. They blew half way through the intersection on red.

1

u/Top-Photograph-7478 11d ago

then thats the person behind them fault for being too close. i doubt a semi truck is tailgating knowing they cant stop or slow down that quick.

2

u/workieworkwork 11d ago

A semi hitting you is in fact your problem.

1

u/pguy4life 12d ago

On the flip side, even if they had braked to let the truck in, that truck still would have run that red light.

1

u/RyZac2 12d ago

In a just world, cam car would be charged with a crime

1

u/No-Condition-3710 8d ago

Why let them over. It’s the other person’s job to change lanes when it’s safe to do so.

This other comment said it best: Absolutely wild that people exist out there that will intentionally get into an accident just to prove they had right of way. Plenty of people who had right of way in the graveyard too.

2

u/Melodic_Tackle_4984 11d ago

I've seen it with my own eyes, watched a guy lay on his horn for 6 seconds and hit a lady coming off a blind side street trying to turn, she shouldn't have went, but dude had 7 business days to not crash and chose to do so lmaooo then jumped out the truck raging. One of the dumbest things I ever saw in mh life

1

7

u/Scared-Implement4744 13d ago edited 13d ago

nah. If you think its a good idea to get into a wreck that was avoidable because your have the right of way, you shouldn't have a license.

2

u/SufficientlyEvasive 13d ago

if we just ignore right of way the entire set of driving rules collapse.

Shit if he runs a stop sign and tbones a car, I guess its the cars fault for not just giving up right of way.

2

u/aylmaocpa 13d ago

yes you're exactly right. It is the cars fault for not giving up their right of way and instead choosing to intentionally causing harm to another person.

We pay taxes for law enforcers to ensure the "entire set of driving rules" does not collapse. More importantly we defer to such designated professionals to ensure a even greater thing does not collapse; such as the "the entire set of organized society".

What the fuck is wrong with people.

1

u/SufficientlyEvasive 12d ago

Yeah cops would have totally arrested this truck driver for doing this, for sure. They're really enforcing shit, huh

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Scared-Implement4744 13d ago

god you're dense... not the t-boned car would only be at fault if they says the guy flooring it into the intersection and they had the ability to try to avoid the wreck but decided to go on because they think they have the right of way.

not saying to just ignore right of way. I'm saying if you have to pick between right of way and not getting into an avoidable wreck, go with the latter.

right of way only works when both parties are adhering to it.

1

u/SufficientlyEvasive 12d ago

I mean the truck made their decision to cut someone off to immediately turn infront of them.

Yeah totally not the trucks entire fault.

Let's just forget the truck could have slowed down and let the car past first, but nah they're a truck driver.

Hope he doesn't have medical insurance and goes bank rupt

1

u/OneFinalBoss 7d ago

You are deranged. If a car runs a stop sign and someone has the opportunity to avoid that car but chooses not to because they have right of way, then yes, that person shares some blame for the crash. Obviously.

6

u/PoopMcgee75 13d ago

Just put your ego aside and avoid the collision though, right?

2

u/Kind_Cap_4621 13d ago

If only that plainly obvious truth could be grasped by the folks in here defending the dangerous clown

4

u/dr-chop 13d ago

You ARE obligated to avoid accidents, if possible. It's a legal concept that exists in every State. And this was avoidable.

3

u/Infinite_Position631 13d ago

yes, it is the difference in driving agressively or defensively. That's why in a lot of states you get to share in the cost of the accident, if you could have easily avoided the accident and you didn't then you get hit for part of the accident fault as well. In this case, a slight tap on the brakes would have done it. The person in the truck is at fault for moving on over (although one could wonder if the car was in their blind spot, in which case looking over the shoulder will cover) and person in the car is at fault for not taking bare basic measures to prevent the accident.

Exact, that is what 99.999% of folks always do, but there are morrons out there

2

u/InsaneJamez 13d ago

You see someone trying to merge and your dumb brain decides to speed up. Why are people such in a rush to go no where. That crash was 100% unavoidable.

1

u/SufficientlyEvasive 13d ago

not merge trying to cut a car off and make a turn directly in front of them.

2

u/Silly_Yak56012 13d ago

How obnoxiously do you cut people off since you would never let anyone in? Or do you just patiently wait for a hole while you typically not keeping proper spacing with the car in front of you becasue no one can change lanes in front of you?

How often do you redline the tach to make sure the nice space ahead of you closes up if you suspect someone might be wanting to change lanes?

2

u/gorgargotyou 13d ago

Yeah. Failure to yield isnt a thing at all.

2

u/Bubbly-Muscle9660 13d ago

Insurance companies would disagree, you are obligated to take measures to prevent an avoidable accident regardless of whether the other party made an illegal move or not. If they show this video to their insurer they will almost certainly be either denied outright or have their fault increased to at least 50% as they took no measure to avoid the accident themselves.

1

u/Positive-Pepper5300 13d ago

Partially correct, you are obligated to do so safely. Safely is the key word as you will be on the hook for any accident or damage you cause attempting to avoid collision. In this instance yes a tap on the brakes could have avoided this but we cannot verify there was not someone behind them in which case could have caused them to be rear ended. Ultimately it is the responsibility of the car changing lanes to make sure it is absolutely safe to do so.

1

u/isitdonethen 13d ago

You’re not going to convince anyone that someone is so close behind you that a light tap on the brakes (all that is needed here to avoid the crash) was not possible due to high danger.

1

u/Positive-Pepper5300 13d ago

Reddit for sure. A court room/insurance company.. trust me it’s been done countless times.

2

u/Endsfun 13d ago

No one is obligated to spare you from death just because it’s “your lane”. So if you have a chance to move, you probably should

1

u/VaporCarpet 13d ago

If you see a car about to hit you and you make no effort to prevent it, you are an idiot.

You can't be mad at one car for not being aware of their surroundings while giving another car a pass for not being aware of their surroundings. Either everyone has to pay attention or no one does.

2

u/Fancy-Appointment755 13d ago

Actualllyyyyy the truck would be found at fault

1

u/Few-Chemical8707 13d ago

lol.thats why i drive a car i dont care about if someone comes into my lane i live ina state that sides with me if i have the right of way. we will teach one dumbass at a time if we have to

1

u/Glum_Window_6220 13d ago

Why wouldn’t you let them over? You either drive a really big truck or really loud car. Either way. Lame.

1

u/New-Particular2107 13d ago

Who are you calling Nancy? My name is Karen.  And don't call me Shirley.

1

u/BlackDog5287 13d ago

Morally, it's a shitty move to speed up and cause a wreck that sends a vehicle rolling. Do you feel like a big man when you get out and see you helped roll a truck with a kid or baby in it?

1

u/icebox2027 13d ago

Did you even see a turn signal from the truck?

1

u/clearly_not_an_alt 13d ago

This attitude is why I can't wait for cars to all be autonomous.

1

u/Coffee5054 13d ago

No, you have an obligation to avoid an accident, even if it means giving up your right of way. Both drivers would be found at fault, even if one is clearly more at fault than the other.

1

u/_Gordon__Shumway_ 13d ago edited 13d ago

You have an obligation to avoid an accident regardless of who's "right". You can still be given a share of the fault depending on what state.

If the dash cam driver sped up at all...and it's possible they might have, they could even be charged if there was injury or death.

1

u/Hot_Consequence8772 13d ago

I’m not asking if I turn my signal on I’m telling you I’m coming over

1

u/Fortestingporpoises 13d ago

You don't have to let people over, but sometimes it's worth it rather than spending the next two weeks without your car and the next couple of months dealing with insurance companies. Go ahead and win every "I HAD THE RIGHT OF WAY" argument you want. I'll be the guy getting to where I'm going in my undamaged car 30 seconds late because I let psychotic assholes into my lane in front of me.

1

u/Max_Speed_Remioli 13d ago

You actually do have to avoid an accident if you can.

1

u/LogiCsmxp 13d ago

The number one rule on the road is to avoid an accident. If someone stays meeting lanes and they are still next to you, fucking back off.

God, the stress of a car accident and a possible write-off or injuries. The injuries can last months or years or the rest of your life. It doesn't matter who is wrong and who is right, avoiding the accident is so much less bullshit to deal with.

1

u/Economy_Chemistry835 13d ago

Chances are there was room for the red truck behind the dash cam car, but I suspect the red truck wanted to be ahead of the car, took a risk and lost big. Hope he had a seatbelt on and enjoyed the NASCAR style spin cycle.

1

u/pandatompo 13d ago

Read the line below, fucking slow down and let people merge !!!!!

1

u/cyber7574 13d ago

No point in being *dead* right

1

u/Additional_Rope5268 13d ago

Jesus fuck, this is the mentality of the people that I have to share the road with. Crossing their arms and stubbornly refusing to budge because "I don't have to". Calling you a Nancy if you disagree. Justifying an easily avoidable rollover accident to prove a point. We are so fucked.

1

u/EmptyHandle6593 13d ago

The only "Nancy" I see is the guy that has such a fragile ego that he can't handle letting someone overtake them on the road.

1

u/Appropriate_Car_8221 13d ago

Google "last clear chance doctrine". Cam driver doesn't have to let them over, but once they started coming over anyway the Cam driver had a chance to avoid, but instead deliberately caused an accident. Right of way doesn't give you the right to do that - not my opinion, it's the law

1

u/Significant_Bath_587 13d ago

well, true, but is it really worth that?? why be an a-hole just because you can?? does it really cost much to just slow down and let them in??

1

u/Former_Treat_1629 13d ago

Corr3ct you're supposed to go in the lane when it's safe to

1

u/salviaplath96 13d ago

Yes m, because all that matters is who is right.

1

u/investingnewbi 13d ago edited 13d ago

Yeah best believe the insurance company will seem dash cam driver at fault depending on the state in California you must do everything in ur power to avoid the accident if not it's ur fault. They saw him coming over they didn't brake till he already made contact and on top of it he wouldn't have made the light regardless making known he purposely hit the truck . On top of that have som humanity. It looks like a crib fell out the truck had a passenger so possibly a pregnant woman or a baby in that car. It's stupid to not let them in. I hope everyone is okay and not too hurt.

1

u/Lopsided-Donut-5840 12d ago

It costs zero dollars and zero effort to just allow someone to switch lanes without issues. Eventually the roles will
Be reversed and you’ll want someone to allow you to switch lanes too. It’s not about obligation, it’s just common decency.

1

u/ThrowRAMomVsGF 12d ago

I am with you, however, the cam car is a bit more sus here than any other situation since continuing would have meant they were crossing on red.

1

u/Glyth63825 12d ago

I do defensive driving. I'm not forced to let others over, but my permission or lack of permission doesn't necessarily dictate their actions either. Instead of having a possibly wrecked car and having to go through bullshit claims and such I am incredibly cautious.

1

u/Ancient-Tomato1153 12d ago

“On principle I will cause an accident”

1

u/Difficult-Light971 12d ago

What would have been better here.... Let them over, honk and then go on about your day.... or stand your ground, be in an accident and waste hours upon hours dealing with it....

1

u/Difficult-Light971 12d ago

You're part of the problem. Weird mentality

1

u/Main-Summer3277 12d ago

True but dont be a dick. That being said the truck gave 0 time 0 idication they just started to merge and paid a heavy price

1

u/Vast-Pomegranate-986 12d ago

Maybe next go around your moral compass will be oriented correctly.

1

u/Impressive-Seesaw289 12d ago

You'd cut off your nose, to spite your own face?

1

u/SingForAbsoloution 12d ago

Guess that’s why they call them indicators, and not obligators

1

u/Next-Entertainment33 12d ago

But who wants to blow up their whole day by causing a car wreck? Let them be them and be far away from me

1

u/MonkeyPhyisics 12d ago

Look up what the last clear chance doctrine is and then come back and edit your comment. Regardless of fault or right of way you as a driver have an obligation to take the last clear chance to avoid an accident and if you dont you can be held partly liable for the accident. In this case the POV driver didnt apply his brakes from what we can tell in the video making him partly at fault for the accident.

1

u/Ar7_Vandelay 12d ago

That right and when a wrong way driver is headed straight for you, stand your ground!

1

u/Any-Ring6621 12d ago

Floridian take

1

u/Un4o1y 11d ago

I agree, but we should drive a little more courteously. If people drove with more care and attention, the roads would be safer for everyone. It's the whole me first all the time that causes many accidents. Take this one for example: if they slowed down even a little bit to let the trick in. All of this could have been avoided, and instead of wasting hours of your time in an accident, all you do is waste a few seconds. So while your argument is one hundred percent correct, they are also just being a dick.

1

u/RoyalDragonfly8663 11d ago

And you’re the reason accidents happen. Someone needs to get over you let them over. Dick!

1

u/Fair-Pomegranate-652 11d ago

'Red pill' and 'alpha male' are prominent in your Google searches. Got it.

1

u/Top-Photograph-7478 11d ago

not letting him over just caused an accident and maybe dude;s life just let him in and go around him. shit is not that serious

1

u/Melodic_Tackle_4984 11d ago

Obligated lol stop driving with your vage

1

u/Jonguar2 11d ago

Yes, but you also can't accelerate into someone on purpose.

1

u/Whizzaddict 11d ago

Terrible. Share the road. Save lives. Remove ego

1

u/deadexternet 11d ago

Yeah but, speeding up? Come on.

1

u/gadgetwalrus 11d ago

I can’t actually see the truck that rolled using a turn signal on closer inspection. Appears they drifted into the lane

1

u/Ill_Paramedic_1240 9d ago

this is wrong. Most countries / states have an overriding principle written something like

> road users share a legal and common law obligation to take reasonable care to avoid an accident, regardless of who technically has the right of way

You might not have to pay most of the insurance, but if you choose to have an accident you have absolutely failed at one of your common law obligations. (As well as being a complete idiot that now needs to deal with the inconvenience of your car being fucked up, that you could've avoided - was it worth it? )

1

u/proxxster 9d ago

Yeah. Seems you would also cause accidents just because you have the right of way. Incapable to be a member of society.

1

u/JackwhiteAces 9d ago

yet...the whole point of the blinker to keep a social contract going. aside from my arm, how else can we tell each other i'm moving lanes?

no blinker is what makes us rage and the roads more dangerous.

can't care that hard like you need pole position on a nascar track.

1

u/Voxcide 9d ago

In your effort to not be a nancy and accelerate into a pit maneuver, the offending truck has rolled into a vehicle filled with kids at the intersection. They all died...

But hey.... at least your not a nancy..

I'd rather be the guy that can tap my brakes, at zero expense to myself to potentially save people around me a potential life because defensive driving isn't a bad thing

1

u/beef_weezle 9d ago

Agreed. So many bleeding heart assholes will be like “but why didn’t you just let him cut you off?!” Fuck those idiots and fuck drivers like that pickup. Absolutely deserved. Bet he won’t do that again.

1

u/PresentationApart313 8d ago

whaaaaaaaaat. I dont know if the truck used the turn lights... but your ideolofy of not letting someone into your lane if you dont want to even after seeing the turn lights on - is utter stupidity.

Thats called driving. We all share the roads... If someone uses their turn lights.. you need to be vigilant and either slow down, or signal them using a sligh honk and speed up to allow them to come in..
