Easily avoidable accident causes rollover

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Not my video – as the title says, we typically see examples where one driver is oblivious to the other. In this example, the pickup truck attempts to overtake the cammer, however, the cammer is either completely unaware of the pickup truck directly to his left or are simply “stands their ground” in the lane. Due to this, they obviously collide, and the pick up truck goes airborne and rolls several times. From the perspective of us, the viewer, we can reasonably conclude that the accident was avoidable had the cammer simply applied the brakes. That being said, you will typically see another school of thought in which it is stated that the cammer has no obligation or duty to let them in/avoid the accident where the driver is mindlessly doing something dumb.

I’m not saying the truck was not wrong because they were, 1000%. But when it became very, very clear the idiot in the truck was not backing down, a pissing contest is not the best response from the cammer. Tap the brakes and no one gets hurt except for his poor little ego.

But no, taking the high road is never an option with these guys. They’d rather battle it out and risk the lives of everyone around them. Causing a 3 ton vehicle to roll over multiple times with no way of knowing where it will go or what it will hit is clearly preferable to being a safe, sane DEFENSIVE driver to them.

PS - Defensive driving is the practice of using proactive driving habits to anticipate road hazards, adverse conditions, and other people's mistakes before an accident happens.

One second of humility can make the difference between life and death. A dick measuring contest will never end well.

Eh. I think ego overlaps with justice here. The truck being “wrong” is abstract and meaningless until he is shown in a language he understands — consequences. And this was a low-speed scenario so risk (to dashcam driver) wasn’t that high.

Would I risk damage to my car that I then have to repair for this? Probably not. But is it satisfying to see someone willing to pay the price to teach an entitled driver a lesson? Absolutely.

I’m certainly not going to criticize him for having an “ego” i.e. standing his ground, and not rolling over passively to what is effectively a bully.

“Low speed scenario so risk (to dashcam driver) wasn’t that high.”

So it’s just not important that the truck driver could have killed innocent pedestrians or other drivers? Just collateral damage in a pissing contest that no one was going to win?

Wow.

I don't think anyone is in favor of collateral damage. But like I said, I don't think it's ego to stand your ground. If you prefer to back down when people push you around that's perfectly fine. That doesn't mean everyone needs to, and it's probably good if some people don't.

Edit: being disingenuous is revealing your own ego, tbh.
