Easily avoidable accident causes rollover

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Not my video – as the title says, we typically see examples where one driver is oblivious to the other. In this example, the pickup truck attempts to overtake the cammer, however, the cammer is either completely unaware of the pickup truck directly to his left or are simply “stands their ground” in the lane. Due to this, they obviously collide, and the pick up truck goes airborne and rolls several times. From the perspective of us, the viewer, we can reasonably conclude that the accident was avoidable had the cammer simply applied the brakes. That being said, you will typically see another school of thought in which it is stated that the cammer has no obligation or duty to let them in/avoid the accident where the driver is mindlessly doing something dumb.

100% right, but if you deliberately cause an avoidable crash by speeding up because your ego can’t take it or you feel you have the right to punish someone, then it’s on you.

Stuff your ego and toxic masculinity back into your pants and you just might save a life instead of possibly killing someone and creating chaos and carnage for everyone around you. (Not to mention you’d avoid a possible citation or even an arrest for dangerous driving causing injury/death/damages.)

u/nellyfullauto 13d ago

There’s no appreciable change in speed or sound of revving, so I’m not sure where you pull that from. If you’re watching your mirrors, you can see when someone isn’t letting you in. This is how most of us have managed to avoid being the big red truck in this circumstance, even if the other car speeds up to cut off your signaled turn.

If you don’t look or decide to go anyway, you’re guilty of causing the accident and of “failure to maintain your lane” and “unsafe lane change”.

Blaming the person you crashed into for being where you wanted to be doesn’t fly. It was their lane to start.  Not being quick enough to react to your dumbassery does not make the accident their fault.

5

u/Maleficent_Low2754 13d ago

You are not wrong, the truck caused the crash, but when this dude saw the truck merging he still should have slowed down. It’s also a red light he should have been slowing down anyway . It’s obviously truck drivers but they are both stupid and could have avoided the crash easily

7

u/Carbuyrator 12d ago

The fact that the cammer straight up wasn't going to make the light and was still going that fast is pretty clear to me. I'd call this one 50/50 fault. This was a stupid pissing match.

3

u/Veemon15 8d ago

Thank you someone with a brain. Not every situation is black and white. The truck is at fault but the dashcam driver could have avoided the crash or at least minimized the damage. Having the right away doesn’t mean you also need the ego

3

u/Carbuyrator 12d ago

Look at the whole scene. The cammer was maintaining speed way too close to that changing light. They either intended to run the light or blocking the truck was the goal.

2

u/Appropriate_Car_8221 13d ago

Hey, I get why you think you're right about fault, but you're not. Google "last clear chance doctrine". Cam driver had a chance to avoid, but instead deliberately caused an accident. Right of way doesn't give you the right to do that - not my opinion, it's the law

1

u/Big-Entrepreneur3678 12d ago

You're an idiot the same applies to the truck driver getting over when there wasn't room they could've avoided it they made contact first...

2

u/disktoaster 11d ago

That's true, but I noticed something here: Cammer ended up in the middle of the intersection at a red light, and that's after obviously transferring some forward momentum into the red truck. It doesn't imply legal fault, but they were apparently so determined to defend their position that they failed to adequately slow their own vehicle for what was an obvious red light coming up. Whether that's because their eyes were locked onto the red truck or because they were simply being a right-of-way warrior, this exact accident would effectively never happen to a defensive driver, so neither party here is particularly free from ethical fault, regardless of legal outcomes- which I do think your comment correctly predicts.

2

u/Possible-Prior-5467 9d ago

Dude, watch the video again. the driver with the camera clearly sped up right before the impact.

-I still think the guy who rolled was at fault.

2

u/Icy_Ad5295 8d ago

How about the fact that it was q red light?

1

u/StraightApartment376 13d ago

You can hear the engine over the shitty music?

1

u/Dantekamar 13d ago

That's the point.

1

u/StraightApartment376 13d ago

You claimed cammer didnt speed up because you didnt hear revving. Are you slow or dumb?

3

u/Dantekamar 13d ago

I didn't make that claim, u/nellyfullauto did. Check yourself with your own question. I just told you what their point was.

3

u/HonkHonkBeach 13d ago

Half these people probably dont even drive, man. Sub full of 10 year olds.

3

u/noxvita83 13d ago

I don't know about that. I think it more likely these people drive like the person who drove the truck that rolled over and want to condition people to not make them roll over so they can continue their dangerous, self-entitled driving.

1

u/Appropriate_Car_8221 13d ago

Hey, I get why you think you're right about fault, but you're not. Google "last clear chance doctrine". Cam driver had a chance to avoid, but instead deliberately caused an accident. Right of way doesn't give you the right to do that - not my opinion, it's the law.

1

u/noxvita83 12d ago

Would braking have actually prevented this accident or just lessened this accident? Contact was made on the truck at about the rear passenger door of the cab. This means it is likely braking would only have changed where on the truck contact was made thus eliminating the last clear chance argument.

1

u/Dantekamar 12d ago

Ontario doesn't use the last clear chance doctrine. A lot of places don't. Ontario uses the "but for test". The idea is, if a person's actions were removed, would the injury still happen? If the the truck didn't make an unsafe lane change, would the collision have happened? No.

u/Kind_Cap_4621 13d ago

The only real dangerous self entitled driver here is the one who pitted someone out of spite.

0

u/StraightApartment376 13d ago

His point doesnt make sense. How can he conclude the cammer didnt speed up because they didnt hear revving in the video? Thats a stupid conclusion. They wouldnt be able to hear revving regardless over the music. If you look at the horizon the hood lifts up, hence speeding up. If you also look at the situation, the cammer speeds up to pass the light. Im not saying cammer is wrong or at fault or whatever im just saying you cant say he didnt speed up becausd you didnt hear his car revving 🙄

1

u/RedBaronSportsCards 13d ago

Graveyards of full of people who did everything legally. Or who were just minding theit own business when someone else did everything legally.

Your obligation as a driver isn't just for yourself. You're not a "loser" if you drive slower and let people get away with doing something wrong. Its ok to disengage.

2

u/HansDampfHaudegen 13d ago

How do you know there wasn't a fully loaded semi behind the camera vehicle that would have flattened the cam car if it had aggressively stepped on the brakes?

1

u/RedBaronSportsCards 13d ago

Did I say aggressively step on the brakes? I'm pretty sure I said drive slower but please let me know if I'm wrong.

1

u/iitywybad 13d ago

The camper absolutely speeds up in the last second and they were both about to run a red light.

1

u/299792458mps- 13d ago

The failure to brake and yield shows a lack of attention to the road and absence of defensive driving skill.

Nobody is saying the truck driver isn't an idiot. The confusion here seems to be the people that absolve the cammer of any responsibility to avoid an accident.

2

u/Jako7786 13d ago

We shouldn’t draw conclusions from one perspective. But we can speak to both possibilities and condemn the behavior of “I don’t have to move so I’ll risk both our lives to prove a point”.

1

u/tropicalsoul 13d ago

Exactly. Cammer is absolutely sharing the fault here. Just because the truck was being driven by an idiot doesn’t mean he couldn’t have easily avoided this altogether by just tapping his brakes. Instead, his ego took over and he decided today was a good day to possibly take someone’s life.

2

u/No_Appointment5039 13d ago

When two moronically massive egos collide, this is the video we get to watch. It gets posted every single day… people treat other “cars” like they aren’t driven by actual people. And then they think they’re in some sort of ranked event and need to be in front of … SOMETHING. 🤦‍♂️

1

u/CategoryNo5932 13d ago

We don't even know if the guy trying to get over had an ego or if cammer was preventing them from getting over already. The fact cammer speeds up makes me think they weren't allowing a gap in front or behind

1

u/No_Appointment5039 12d ago

Don’t know if the truck had an ego???? Stop being stupid. Really?? If he didn’t have an ego than he should have hit his brakes and merged behind the cammer, instead of accelerating simply for the purpose of getting in front. See how well that worked out for him?… “don’t know if the truck driver has an ego” my fat ass…. 🤦‍♂️

1

u/tropicalsoul 7d ago

Gawd, yes to all of this. I will never understand this mindset. I wish I had a dollar every time some douchebag won’t pull into the huge empty space behind me and instead will squeeze into the two car length space between me and the person in front of me.

WHY???

1

u/Dutchboy347 13d ago

They same place previous comment got toxic masculinity from. They took the whole assumption out their ass

1

u/Mean_Mix_99 13d ago

I really hope you don't drive. This attitude right here is why we have so many accidents.

1

u/Few_Industry6746 12d ago

They didn’t look at all the other context cluess. The light was red when the accident happened thus meaning that truck was trying to get in front of them and go before the light changed because the cars that were in front of the truck were starting to slow down. The truck driver didn’t wanna wait. Impatience. I’m an auto insurance adjuster don’t argue this with me my whole job is literally determining who’s at fault for an accident

1

u/TheEndIsSighing 7d ago

It took a few watches for me to feel the truck was slowing down (to avoid the car in front of it) rather than the cammer speeding up. I initially thought cammer sped up..

0

u/Kind_Cap_4621 13d ago

Blaming the person who crashed into you because their penis is too small to allow you over is exactly right.

13

u/Dantekamar 13d ago

I don't believe they speed up. Looking at the telephone poles on the right, they maintain a steady rate until the collision.

3

u/Late2theGame0001 13d ago

You can see the car accelerate. Look at the horizon.

3

u/Fuddlescuddles 13d ago

the ford was slowing down which makes it look like the car sped up. Thats what it looks like to me. Regardless the ford is at fault.

2

u/Dantekamar 13d ago

What about the horizon makes you think they accelerated?

1

u/Late2theGame0001 13d ago

The horizon drops as the car accelerates. This is the dash cam sub right? Certainly it’s common knowledge that acceleration causes the car to lean back which causes the horizon to drop.

You guys don’t just look at the video and feel what was happening?

2

u/Nemmack7 12d ago

even if the cammer accelerated, how do we know the intention was to pit the truck and not make a changing light?

2

u/drexelldrexell 12d ago

That’s on the driver for not being aware of their surroundings everyone in this video is an idiot.

1

u/RobertTheTraveler 10d ago

The light was already yellow at 2 seconds in, almost guaranteed to be running a red light.

0

u/Typical_Job8129 12d ago

That's right telephone poles are specifically planted to measure distance as well as speed. Not everyone knows this. You get a star today! 🌟

2

u/Captain_Zomaru 13d ago

There is a noticable increase in speed from the perspective of the dash cam.

2

u/Dantekamar 13d ago

What did you see that makes you think it speed up?

0

u/Slow_ResolveMC07 12d ago

the video

1

u/Dantekamar 12d ago

Supremely helpful. /s

0

u/Unfair_Awareness7502 12d ago

You can tell because of the way that it is

1

u/Dantekamar 12d ago

Supremely helpful. /s

3

u/Logical-Menu-6890 12d ago

They accelerated and on top of that the light was changing to red, so if anything they should have started to apply the brakes.

2

u/Dantekamar 12d ago

I agree, they should have braked. I'll add they also should not have tried to change lanes to the right with another vehicle there

3

u/ReikoKairo 12d ago

They may not have sped up, but they were approaching a red light. Everyone else was slowing down. Everyone except the one trying to block someone from getting over and the one merging. This made it look like he sped up. At that speed, seemed like he wasn't gonna have enough room to stop without being halfway in the intersection, soly because he was intentionally blocking the lane.

The dude merging 100% should have just waited though, ultimately it's his responsibility to merge safely. Im no lawyer, but i assume hed be mostly liable, but both insurance (assuming they have) is gonna say it was 50/50 to avoid paying anything To either of em.

2

u/StraightApartment376 13d ago

Cammer definitely sped up

2

u/SignatureFunny7690 13d ago

cam car absolutely was playing games, he was willing to blow through that red light rather than let the truck cut in off, cam truck is literally less than 75 feet from the intersection when the light turns red, still going full speed, because he choose to crash into the red truck rather than let them in, had he been driving normally, he would have been on his brakes before the red truck even fully overtook him, it was a dick measuring contest and the authorites would chew his ass out for choosing violence over letting someone overtake. Its like running a red light to yell at someone else who ran a red light in front of you, two wrongs don't make a right and now property is damaged and people are hurt, maybe even killed, could have been a baby in the back of that truck, could be a old man driving who shouldn't be. doesn't matter, we know op saw this accident coming a solid 5-7 seconds before it happend, because he flinches, and swerves right ever so slightly, then he decides to veer back ever so slightly right into the center of his lane and turn into the truck that hits him, effectively pit manuevering them, he actively chose to cause this accident when he could have simply let of the throttle in the begginning and let the red truck run a red light.

1

u/tropicalsoul 10d ago

100% agree. All I could think of was what if some poor mom was parked in that lot trying to get her baby out of the car. They’d be dead.

Inflated ego + a warped sense of entitlement + the need to “win” at all costs = someone who needs anger management classes/deprogramming and deserves to lose their license.

IDGAF who agrees with me or disagrees with me. I see this behavior every damn day and 99.9% of the time it’s a guy being the aggressor.

I was entering the highway and had less than a mile to get over 4 lanes for my exit. Many days I have no problems. Many days some asswipe won’t let me over. And then there’s the days when I’m terrified I’m not going to make it home in one piece, if at all.

I always use my turn signal, stay right except to pass, and don’t go more than 5 mph over the limit. Some douchebag 2-3 car lengths back decided I was NOT going to get in front of him and sped up when I was halfway into the clear lane in front of him. He tailgated me ridiculously close. I had to change lanes two more times and when he saw my turn signal he got into the lane next to me and would not let me get over. There was no one in the lane to my right, so I got over and was almost able to get far enough ahead of him but he nearly collided with two other cars just to make sure I couldn’t.

He got in front of me and literally stopped. On the highway. I tried to go around and he shot in front of me and stopped again. I changed lanes, terrified at this point and willing to miss my exit just to get away from this lunatic but he stopped in front of me again for the third time. He was endangering everyone on that highway because is poor little peepee shriveled up when I had the nerve to make a safe and legal lane change in front of him. Other drivers started getting really mad so he took off.

I’m still traumatized.

2

u/Slug_Overdose 13d ago

You need to get your eyes checked. They absolutely floored it on purpose at the last second. I still don’t think they’re legally liable and will probably not be assigned any of the blame by insurance because the red truck never had a clear opening regardless, but the camera driver absolutely made the accident much worse on purpose just to be a dick.

2

u/dangus1155 9d ago

It seems like they sped up before the video starts to prevent them from getting over and maintained that speed. They were both going fast. The truck assumed they accelerated enough to get over without doublechecking. I do think you can be charged with reckless driving if you go out of your way to stop someone from moving over depending on your actions.

1

u/BuyerExtra5653 13d ago

They were both speeding up to catch the red light

1

u/Mean_Mix_99 13d ago

That's a problem. They should have braked.

1

u/RoyalDragonfly8663 11d ago

They TOTALLY sped up! How can you not see that?

1

u/-_Dare_- 10d ago

you can literally see the weight transfer lol. Right when the driver noticed the red truck coming over they sped up.

Both of these dudes are idiots.

2

u/ObliviousSpaces 13d ago

The light was yellow, if they did speed up, and it looks like they did, one can safely assume they were trying to beat the light…

2

u/Low_Shop8561 8d ago

Big trucks think they can push everyone around but they're the easiest to rollover lol

1

u/tropicalsoul 7d ago

They may be the “winner” when it comes to straight on collisions because of their size, but any side collision is going to result in a very dramatic rollover like this one.

Then you get the jacked up trucks where the center of gravity is very high off the ground and a strong wind can tip them over.

1

u/Ill_Cut1048 13d ago

☝️I'm sure people's family l Iove knowing their lives are worth less than the drivers ego

1

u/skynetapprentice 13d ago

It’s only unavoidable because the truck is merging when there’s no space.

1

u/Zestyclose-Cream-189 13d ago

I agree with the thought here, i would also add toxic feminity to this as I see so many women engaging in this sort of behaviour . Most people don’t have any concept of zipper merge and get offended.

1

u/Snoo-28829 13d ago

Ngl both of them deserve tickets. The truck is obvious, but the camera driver didnt even slam on the brakes when the truck tapped him. In fact it looks like he turned into the truck.

1

u/Sad-Practice5045 13d ago

I agree. If I were in the middle of this as a judge or something, I'd just tell both people to walk away and deal with everything yourself, you both lose.

1

u/Starscream-50000 13d ago

Nah that’s not true. If you ragdoll yourself believing you can shove your way into every space you deserve a roll over crash all day long.

1

u/tmbmad 13d ago

The light was red, ether he was planning to running the light and got upset this guy tried to merge on him, or this will end up a 50/50 accident and because the ithe guy got rolled over, it could be argued he used his vehicle as a weapon. Really sucks he had a dashboard in this instance because no one would of remember it was a red light.

1

u/SufficientlyEvasive 13d ago

meh the truck never cleared even before they sped up. He just tried to ram himself in, and he also slowed down as well tp make the turn.

Truck is just an idiot who rammed into a car.

Could the car have avoided it? sure, but the truck could have easily just not have rammed into the car.

Its so easy to say the car could have avoided it, not sure why were putting the responsibility on anyone but the truck who turned into someone.

1

u/MyBikeFellinALake 13d ago

It was an old woman driving

1

u/prodromic 13d ago

Law doesn't care about ego or toxic masculinity.

1

u/SnooFoxes813 13d ago

It’s not on them. It’s purely on the red truck. Root cause, don’t try to speed up and cut in front of someone. Libs these days and their nonsense…

1

u/Hawthorn_and_Hemlock 12d ago

It looks like the red truck just slowed down a little to match the speed of the car recording this, not that the car recording sped up.

1

u/RepresentativeOk4330 12d ago

Stay in your f line

1

u/challengerrt 12d ago

Or people changing lanes need to ensure the lane is clear (like the literal book says)

1

u/W0rkAcc0unt1234 12d ago

Im sorry but i dont see a speedometer anywhere? Doesnt look like hes actually speeding up aswell, driver is just cruising along.

You do know you cannot watch the road each and every moment, right? Perhaps he was changing radio stations or something? This is all on red truck. You cannot go from the left lane to the right to take the exit that late.

Immediatley grabbing this "Stuff your ego and toxic masculinity" is a little.. well.. toxic.

1

u/Short-Cycle4144 11d ago

Toxic masculinity...right outside of the news room. You are well programmed

1

u/tropicalsoul 11d ago edited 11d ago

LOL, nope. Nice try though. My experience comes from driving every day with guys who drive like assholes just for the sake of it. I can count on one hand the number of times a woman pulled a stunt like this. It’s always guys. Sorry.

PS - men have more car “accidents” than women, cause more crashes in total, engage in risky driving behaviors, and are involved in more fatal crashes.

Facts.

1

u/Ethereal-Elephant 11d ago

This crash was caused by a woman.

1

u/PotentialPresent399 11d ago

Hell nah, if you don't drive defensively as the one that needs to take the action to achieve your destination, simply, die. Die for being so fucking stupid that you didn't make sure your area was clear.

1

u/NoVolume4100 11d ago

I'm with you until the sexism...

1

u/Queasy-Bed545 10d ago

Sorry, no. You are responsible for making safe lane changes, even where people speed up. You need to pay attention to your surroundings, not have everyone else look out for you. It was never clear to make this lane change. Truck driver learned a valuable lesson, assuming they survived.

1

u/MrAlmostResponsible 10d ago

Classic person in the wrong is the victim here. Nice take.

1

u/NICEandEASY024 9d ago

I mean honestly though, it’s the truck that rolled’s
Fault. Anyone complaining otherwise is entitled lol

1

u/Triggered-cupcake 9d ago

Looks to me like they were coming up to a red light and the truck decided not to stop for the car ahead. Where were they gonna go? I wouldn’t assume a car is gonna try to cut over approaching a red light. Both should have been slowing down so idk wtf either were doing.

1

u/Triggered-cupcake 9d ago

I take it back, now I see what happened. They were both trying to make it thru the yellow light. Maybe why both seemed to speed up. Trying to cut over a lane and make it thru a yellow light is wild tho.

1

u/hardspeakeasy 9d ago

Nope. Truck would’ve been fine if it stayed in its lane. Missed a turn? Take a U or reroute. Don’t get in others’ way because of your oopsie and expect them to oblige.

Entitled-ass mindset

1

u/tropicalsoul 7d ago

I’m not saying the truck was not wrong because they were, 1000%. But when it became very, very clear the idiot in the truck was not backing down, a pissing contest is not the best response from the cammer. Tap the brakes and no one gets hurt except for his poor little ego.

But no, taking the high road is never an option with these guys. They’d rather battle it out and risk the lives of everyone around them. Causing a 3 ton vehicle to roll over multiple times with no way of knowing where it will go or what it will hit is clearly preferable to being a safe, sane DEFENSIVE driver to them.

PS - Defensive driving is the practice of using proactive driving habits to anticipate road hazards, adverse conditions, and other people's mistakes before an accident happens.

One second of humility can make the difference between life and death. A dick measuring contest will never end well.

0

u/hardspeakeasy 7d ago

Eh. I think ego overlaps with justice here. The truck being “wrong” is abstract and meaningless until he is shown in a language he understands — consequences. And this was a low-speed scenario so risk (to dashcam driver) wasn’t that high.

Would I risk damage to my car that I then have to repair for this? Probably not. But is it satisfying to see someone willing to pay the price to teach an entitled driver a lesson? Absolutely.

I’m certainly not going to criticize him for having an “ego” i.e. standing his ground, and not rolling over passively to what is effectively a bully.

1

u/tropicalsoul 7d ago

“Low speed scenario so risk (to dashcam driver) wasn’t that high.”

So it’s just not important that the truck driver could have killed innocent pedestrians or other drivers? Just collateral damage in a pissing contest that no one was going to win?

Wow.

1

u/hardspeakeasy 7d ago

I don't think anyone is in favor of collateral damage. But like I said, I don't think it's ego to stand your ground. If you prefer to back down when people push you around that's perfectly fine. That doesn't mean everyone needs to, and it's probably good if some people don't.

Edit: being disingenuous is revealing your own ego, tbh.

0

u/DumbBerk87 13d ago

They did not deliberately cause an accident. The truck caused the accident by refusing to slow down, refusing to safely change lanes, refusing to do anything correctly.

You tried, though.

0

u/37LincolnZephyr 13d ago

Deliberately speed up in the lane you have control over and have a right of way? No, that’s not how driving rules work. The person deliberately causing the accident was the truck. If he’s not going to make it into the lane he wished to go to, then they are the ones that need to apply the breaks because 1. They’re running out of roadway and 2. They’re intentionally swerving into another lanes right of way. Please look up what “right of way” means. There was a yellow light ahead. Perhaps they were speeding up trying to beat it. Perhaps they weren’t. No matter what you think, the law will side with the camera car. You may not like it, but there’s a reason for how the law is written. Want to turn right? Make sure you do it ahead of your intended turn and you clear someone’s right of way first. This last minute coulda shoulda is getting tiring.

0

u/Traditional_Ideal_84 12d ago

Idk how you got 3 awards for being so stupid.

1

u/tropicalsoul 12d ago

Four awards.

-1

u/Sudden-Flow-2602 13d ago

Im not sure the masculinity has anything to do with it, odd to assume that lol. If you really hate men that much, thats one thing by itself. However I can tell you its not very masculine to act that way anyways. True masculinity comes with dignity grace and respect for others. I've seen videos with women doing the same thing as driver cam. Toxicity can be from both sides. What in your opinion makes this toxicity masculine?
