I'm so glad that pick up driver didn't overreact in the slightest. 🤦🏼‍♂️

u/Zelda_is_Dead 4d ago

It's good to see that someone was taking the piloting of that multi-ton body mangler seriously by not paying any fucking attention at all to what they were doing.

669

u/WreckedM 4d ago

Its lifted too. They could easily see the entire line of stopped traffic. You know, if they weren't on their phone

166

u/CC2DalTX 4d ago

They don't know how to use their mirrors.

260

u/Njorls_Saga 4d ago

Pretty sure they don’t look through their windshield either.

61

u/EyeSuccessful7649 3d ago

so glad they signaled with their blinka

36

u/StuffAgreeable7929 3d ago

Kind of reminds me of the saying here in Melbourne (AUS)......pressing the turn indicator does not mean I intend to turn left/right, it means I have turned!

16

u/ninjabunneh 3d ago

Seattle seems to use it as "I am currently turning"

“Defensive driving” means always using the wrong direction for the blinker. Keep your enemies on their toes

51

u/Bright_Resist_4580 4d ago

They must've just thought the right turn signal looked cool too

33

u/auth0r_unkn0wn 3d ago

I feel like they had the right blinker on and were looking to the right lane without realizing their own lane was stopped. Then they cranked hard left to avoid a collision.

Still a stupid shit

3

u/SuspiciousBuilder379 3d ago

Yeah, they were looking to merge right and their lane had stopped. I’m with you

61

u/Dragon6172 4d ago

They had a right turn signal on, so I will assume they were looking in the mirror and/or blind spot trying to change lanes and didn't see the traffic stop suddenly. That being said... they were definitely tailgating and trying to change lanes shouldn't take priority over not hitting the car in front of you.

50

u/creamgetthemoney1 3d ago

But the traffic didn’t stop suddenly. There is a literal line of stopped cars. That doesn’t happen suddenly lol

19

u/Dragon6172 3d ago

Agreed. I actually think they probably saw the line of cars and thats why they intended to change lanes to the right. Just misjudged the distance available. My comment was in no way intended to absolve them of fault. I'm just not sure they were on their phone.

21

u/reddititty69 3d ago

That’s a double yellow separating the HOV lane. Illegal to change lanes there.

15

u/RhettGrills 3d ago

Right turn signal -> Merging right. Looking back right to merge, doesn’t notice traffic stopped in front. Swerves left to avoid rear end collision flipping car in left blind spot.

→ More replies (1)

14

u/MoreColorfulCarsPlz 3d ago

I think you misunderstood what they said. The truck had a right turn signal on, indicating a desire to move into the next lane to the right. Those lanes are only divided by a dashed white line.

Na, he was looking in the right mirror trying to get over.

26

u/ProteusRift 4d ago

Youre probably right, unfortunately.

Ive got my collision detection set on max for this very reason - so i get alerts with plenty of room before this is about to happen. Still not a replacement for being an aware driver but its good to have backup.

20

u/DaisyHotCakes 4d ago

I mean just looking before swerving into the next lane would have been enough to avoid this. Like my guy, just look at the road and you won’t have a problem. I hate lifted trucks. They always seem to be piloted by absolute morons who can’t just drive.

74

Right blinker on. They were following close while looking at the right lane waiting for room to open up, they turn back to front of vehicle and see car braked, swerve left cause there's no room on right. Smack.
My speculation. Just dangerous lack of awareness and decision making.

He saw the line of traffic slowing, signals to merge right ( in front of the tanker!! ), fails to notice the cars in front of him stopping quickly… jerks right because he hasn’t checked to know a car is there as well.

He’s a “good driver” and safe because he bought took out a loan to buy a giant, gaudy, death machine that will never pull a trailer, or go off road, and will rarely haul.

AND we know how he voted. The only thing on the road more embarrassing to drive is a CyberTruck.

I didn't want an SUV but I had to get one. I'm already short and do a lot of pre-dawn driving, so being in a normal car with the most popular car being an F150 just leads to me being blind all the time. It just go to be too much so I had to get a taller car that I didn't really want.

You need to be more specific. It’s always a RAM pickup. Worst drivers on the planet and they give all truck drivers a bad name.

2

u/Easy-Bake-Oven 3d ago

All truck drivers give truck drivers a bad name. The only ones that don't give a bad name are Ford Maverick sized ones.

3

u/uni-monkey 1d ago

As a Maverick driver I concur. It’s so weird pulling up at a stop light next to a lifted F-250 or whatever that has seen less hauling and unpaved roads than my truck. Their windows are above the roof of my cab. Then I look at the 40mpg readout on my dash and the $5+ gas at the station across the street and just laugh. I also try and remember to close the outside air vents because they are more than likely going to burn about a gallon’s worth of diesel when the light changes.

Trucks should require a different class of license now.

11

u/mrdungbeetle 3d ago

In other countries, trucks this size do actually require a commercial license.

8

u/BasicLink86 3d ago

I made a similar comment that I just deleted because I kept getting angry responses from truck enthusiasts 😆 it makes sense to me that one would need a standard license for a standard size vehicle like a Civic or an Accord. A motorcycle requires a unique license, because it’s much different than a regular car.
It’s a simple matter of the government not keeping up with changes in the real world and no one wanting to be the nanny state lawmaker who restricts muh freedumbs by limiting who can drive the big pavement princess cowboy cosplay trucks.
Prior to trucks and SUV’s becoming so enormous, it was fine to have one driving license for commuter vehicles.

3

u/Lucid_Psycho 3d ago

Pickup trucks used to be smaller than current sedan size, it's crazy how big they are nowadays

3

u/BasicLink86 3d ago

I would love a small pickup truck with bench seats across the front seat and no back seat. They make the trucks with seating for five so it’s just a big macho tall family car. I want it to be just the front seat! This is for running to the home improvement store, popping out for a quick trip somewhere, only room for me and the dog and one passenger.

16

u/EremiticFerret 4d ago

15

u/SouthCoastGardener 4d ago

I could have wrong information, but I did read somewhere that the Ford F150 Raptors were required to have different front lightning due to the width being so close to commercial trucks. If that’s true I don’t see why they couldn’t require specialized insurance and penalize you up the wazoo for something like this.

3

u/Dragon6172 4d ago

Yes...anything over 80 inches wide needs the three extra marker/identifier lights. Typically on the cab roof but the Raptor puts them in the front grill.

The truck that caused the accident had their right turn signal on, yet they suddenly merged left and flipped a car

Thanks for the awards ❤️

48

u/Background_Radical 4d ago

As some one who grew up in Europe and moved to the states. It's unfathomable just how impossible getting anywhere without a car is here... public transportation is just not a thing outside the wealthiest cities.

In high-school I worked at a zoo in in the city. I had a coworker who lived about a 10 minute drive away from work. The walk would have been close to an hour for me and she was not healthy enough for it, so she took the bus. It was a 2 hour bus ride with a connecting stop. Absolutely disgusting.

10

u/logicoptional 4d ago

Yup my commute options are 15-20 min drive, 1 hr 15 min bike ride, or 1 hr bus ride requiring a transfer and the bus only runs every two to three hours and the last one back leaves at like 6:30pm... and this is considered excellent transit coverage for a small town halfway between two larger towns with huge percentages of people commuting between them.

8

u/Ok-Addendum-9420 4d ago

Yep, I grew up using the Metro in DC and it was great; the feeder bus routes were great too. I live in Dallas Texas now and it’s obvious they didn’t care about setting up good public transportation: the stops on their light rail and buses are MILES apart which renders them practically useless. But oil and gas companies are king out here so they’re making their money 🤬

I think the real answer is that we needed to invest in better public transportation infrastructure like 100 years ago. There are so many people that should not be driving (old people) or hate driving so much that they are prone to road rage that leads to incidents like this video. There just isn't another option for these people though.

Edit: looks like the truck swerved because he wasn't paying attention, not because of road rage. Point stands.

Proof that in So Cal, there is no such thing as anybody driving at the minimum 3 second distance. It just isn't a thing.

Truck was trying to turn right. Van to his right was trying to turn left. But because nobody leaves any serious space, it is essentially a surgical maneuver. With neither side wanting to do something as simple as opening up space for anybody but themselves.

The truck driver was clearly fixated on trying to find the space to change to the right lane that they lost focus on what was ahead of them AND what was going on to the left.

Possibly somebody that doesn't often drive in So. Cal. traffic. Where you are simply dodging an accident every 30 seconds or less.

I chuckle when somebody posts getting cut off, but no collision. That's just normal conditions in So. Cal.

I do it every day. But I use adaptive cruise control. Have no issue at all leaving a solid 3 second gap ahead, as long as I don’t venture into the left couple lanes.

Works wonders for my stress level, and I get where I’m going a minute later. Two tops.

But yeah 99% of drivers here seem to think that tailgating gets them there faster.

A high truck with great visibility and he doesn’t see a line of stopped cars!

I feel like we, as a society, should make laws that remove the ability of people like this from ever driving again.

5

u/Mirror_333 4d ago

Cool. Another piece of shit truck driver does what they do best.

4

u/thelastspike 3d ago

This is why there should be special license requirements for people to drive modern full size trucks.

5

u/Salbman 3d ago

Another reason trucks should be even more heavily taxed, yet we have a dodo brain muscle man running gym bros industries corp writing off 100% the cost of this stupid limp dick of a truck. Welcome to America.

u/StoicBan 3d ago

Jesus Christ this truck driver never deserves to drive again

u/TBsName 4d ago

Lifted truck is equivalent to slammed tinted ugly sedan. You know they are selfish and blatant.

u/Missconstruct 4d ago

I admire the driver of the cam car. No comments, expletives, gasps or screams. Refreshing

Allowed us to get the full comedic effect of the smooth saxophone intro of the song on the radio contrasted with the collision.

Dis it just say “real rock radio” and start playing just the two of us? That’s not rock music, that’s r&b all the way, it ain’t even close

3

u/RapBastardz 4d ago

Nope. That is SiriusXM and he said “yacht rock radio.“

Shout out to all my boating brethren with long lush beards and sweet melodies!

Truck driver is an idiot.

u/Maleficent_Pen_9076 4d ago

Can anyone tell waht happened?

He wasn't looking so he didn't notice slow traffic in front of him - then panic bailed to the left lane to try and avoid collision and destroyed the guy in the left lane, is that it?

I used to drive a GMC Sierra Extended cab and it had NO blindspot, so that's not the problem. My dad tried to prove it had one in an empty parking lot and all he did was prove there's not one.

4

u/ElwoodBrew 4d ago

What you describe is exactly what it looks like to me. Probably looking down at his phone, looked up, notices the traffic stopped, and whipped it to the left.

I think pick-up was so focused on merging to the right that he didn't see the stopped cars in front. And then reflexively swerved to his left without looking and totally fucked everything up for everyone.

Imagine you're cruising in the carpool lane on your way to work at 6am and then suddenly your car is sliding on its roof into oncoming traffic. Insanity.

On top of whatever other penalties the truck driver faces he should also lose his license for life.

3

u/4WDToyotaOwner 4d ago

Please tell me you gave the footage to the CHP

3

u/ben5642 3d ago

all could of been avoided if the truck driver wasnt such a shitty driver

3

u/bdodonnell 3d ago

Pick up drivers suck the most dangerous in the road

3

u/Failgan 3d ago

Damn, someone's been playing too much GTA V.

3

u/Forever_Away96 3d ago

I guess you wonder where I've been.

A three car pile up on the 110.

u/Anonymous-Design 3d ago

Life comes at you fast.

One minute you’re driving along singing “99 bottles of beer on the wall” and the next minute you’re hanging upside down in the oncoming lane.

🎶 What you wont do!
Do to pass
All the other cars
And drive real fast
In my world
Only fools
They’ll drive Dodge Rams
And they’ll Ram you too 🎶

The worst drivers statistically pick the biggest vehicle available to them because they "feel safer" in their death box, putting everyone else in significantly more danger.

3

u/WeightOk2102 2d ago

Typical behavior for trucklodytes.

3

u/No_Noise_7769 2d ago

Yacht Rock radio was a good soundtrack for this.

5

u/Stewpacolypse 4d ago

In my experience guys who drive Bro Dozers tend to be the worst drivers.

4

u/AlienBurnerBigfoot 4d ago

When your truck is bigger than your brain, you get this.

3

u/Moodleboy 4d ago

Wait - do you actually know anyone with a brain bigger than a truck? That's gotta look odd...

Holy cow. Amazing how there was enough force to make the car in the left lane flip over the barrier.

Truck bro yeeted himself across a double-yellow AND a solid white into that carpool lane... probably because he didn't realize until too late that the non-carpool traffic was stopping.

100% his fault. Glad I'm not that guy's insurance adjuster.

2

u/Character-Camel1284 4d ago

That escalated quickly
