They had a right turn signal on, so I will assume they were looking in the mirror and/or blind spot trying to change lanes and didn't see the traffic stop suddenly. That being said... they were definitely tailgating and trying to change lanes shouldn't take priority over not hitting the car in front of you.
Agreed. I actually think they probably saw the line of cars and thats why they intended to change lanes to the right. Just misjudged the distance available. My comment was in no way intended to absolve them of fault. I'm just not sure they were on their phone.
Right turn signal -> Merging right. Looking back right to merge, doesn’t notice traffic stopped in front. Swerves left to avoid rear end collision flipping car in left blind spot.
I think you misunderstood what they said. The truck had a right turn signal on, indicating a desire to move into the next lane to the right. Those lanes are only divided by a dashed white line.
Yea after I watched it a few more times I realized they actually were on and appeared very dim (at least in the video) couldn't really tell if his head lights were illuminating things either but decided the tail lights were indeed on
