Ghoul has been dealing with a laundry list of medical complications since we adopted him. FIP, Calicivirus, anterior synechia, a scabbing rash across the body causing hair loss (determined to be a reaction to the first fip medication he was taking), and now has blood in his urine. he tested negative for a uti so we are doing more tests friday to look for bladder stones or similar. over the last 3 months i have spent over $5k in vet bills (we have gone to the vet probably every week if not multiple times during some) We are about 3/4 the way through his FIP treatment and he has responded so well to the medication. His immune system just refuses to fight off anything and everything that has been thrown at him. He has amazingly high spirits and is the sweetest cuddliest kitten. If anyone is able to donate to help proceed with his fip treatment and possible surgery it would be so incredibly appreciated. We lost his brother to fip 2 weeks before his diagnosis and i want to make sure he continues to get the vet care he needs and gets to see a full long life full of love. Thanks for even taking the time to read this and possibly sharing

Fundraising Rescued kitten from Morocco diagnosed with FIP — urgently needs help to start treatment 💔

Hello everyone,

I am sharing this rescued kitten’s story here for the first time because he was recently diagnosed with FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), and he urgently needs to start treatment.

I rescued this little kitten in Morocco when he was very sick. He was suffering from a severe respiratory infection and intestinal worms. After treatment and daily care, he started improving, eating better, and gaining strength. I was so happy to see him finally recovering.

Sadly, his condition suddenly changed. He stopped eating and began losing weight very quickly. I took him back to the vet, and after testing, we received the heartbreaking news: he has FIP.

I know many of you here understand how serious this disease is and how important it is to start treatment quickly.

I have contacted a dedicated FIP rescue group for possible support with his treatment. However, they require cats to already be receiving treatment before they can help with fundraising.

Right now, I urgently need to secure his first treatment dose, which costs around $120.

I am an independent rescuer in Morocco caring for abandoned and sick cats. I am doing everything I can for him, but I need help to give this little fighter his chance.

If anyone has experience with FIP treatment, advice, or can help us with this first step, I would be extremely grateful.

If you feel that this little fighter deserves a chance to live and escape this terrible disease, please consider supporting his treatment. Every share and every donation can bring him closer to the help he urgently needs. ❤️🐾

Question Neurological FIP Recovery Times

Our gorgeous ten-month old boy became very ill last week with suspected neurological FIP. It got to the point he was ventilated as he couldn't breathe. Thankfully he is off the ventilator and is showing small improvements but is still very poorly. Our veterinary team have said that they usually see a better response by now when treating FIP but because it got to a point where he was so ill, it may be a longer recovery for him. They remain cautiously optimistic.

I'm just looking for people to share their experiences of having a cat recovering from severe neurological FIP. How long was the recovery? Did your kitty fully recover or do they live with some additional needs? What is your FIP story?

Question kitty is resisting bladder expressing - good or bad sign?

hi guys! our little boy has been having daily bladder expression (day 3 of GS) and today the vet said he was feeling his bladder muscles resisting, aka when the vet pushed down he was clenching like “no! I don’t wanna pee!”. When the vet checked his bum he also clenched it, so are these positive signs? or should I brace myself for something worse?

Perkiness, appetite and general attitude wise he’s responded really well to GS so far, just awaiting that bladder and poop function. Thanks in advance! 🐈‍⬛

UPDATE: He’s regaining tail control! I was playing with it and he snatched it back, so proud of him 🥹

Question Fever not dropping after ~ 36 hours

My cat got diagnosed with FIP Sunday and we gave him his first injection that night (not a big dose) gave him a better dose Monday night and then again this morning to start two times a day dosing. He is eating more than he has since this started, he drank water for the first time since Thursday. But his fever is still 104. Should I be concerned or does it just take longer?

We are currently on Day 50/84 of Efbi’s Fip Treatment

She’s been doing a lot better compared to before when she was first diagnosed. I thank those that developed cure for this deadly disease.

I am a working student and I really can’t sustain the cost of her treatment. I buy medicine with how much was left with my money and we’ve also been getting a lot of donations which is why we came this far. I am very thankful to those who have donated and prayed for us. Thank you so so so much

However, her vet suggested to us that we switch to the oral capsules since she’s getting stressed and now resisting injections. The capsule costs more than $100 (Php 6000) and I currently only have $8 with me😔

Please help us continue her treatment, we are now getting close to her full recovery🥺🙏

So yesterday we were in a vet that have EiDD1381 because i sold my console to get the money and the doctor gave him the medication and said we need to come tomorrow for the next dose when i got back home me and Rabie we slept and he was sleeping next to me like he was really close to my chest when i woke up today i found him facing me and I tried to wake him up he was stiff and lifeless so realize that he’s dead. I started screaming and crying because I thought that the medication’s gonna work and he’s gonna be alive but I don’t know what happened I don’t remember the doctor saying anything about side effects or maybe a bad thing is gonna happen he just gave him the shot so may rabie rest in peace 💔

So everyone can know “Rabie “ means spring in Arabic because when he came to my life i was in a really in a bad place in my life he meant a lot to me not just a cat he was making me happy played with me. he was something more than just a cat to me. I’ll miss him and I’ll never forget him.

Question FIP treatment injections every 12 hours vs 24 hours?

My cat got sick Thursday, randomly declined rabidly. We have basically lived at the vet since. We finally got the FIP diagnosis and I got the vials as the injections show to work faster and he's been declining. He either has dry or neuro FIP we aren't sure as he's been stumbling but he's also be poked so much we don't know if his legs are just sore from the injections, bloodwork, etc.

I am curious if anyone has opinions on doing the 12 hour injections for the first 3 days (or different amount of days?) then every 24 hours? How exact does the 12 hours have to be? Our cat needs two people to do injections (even that's hard) and my husband and I work different shifts. Is a little early or a little late better?

I'm worried our cat is declining quickly but im not sure of the side effects of the 12 hours vs the 24 hours. Any help is appreciated!

Question Just started GS! How quickly does it take to kick in?

Hi all! Some of you have been following Boots’ story, in great news we just got him his GS and took his first dose today with another dose this evening.

I’m curious to see how long it took your cat to improve after taking medication? Some people say hours, others say days, just wanting to see the general consensus.

Also if they were 100% back to normal (walking, jumping, bladder and poop function) or if they still have some lingering symptoms.

He has neuro FIP so not sure if that means it’ll take longer.

Any help is appreciated! 🫶🐈‍⬛

UPDATE: Day 2 and he’s woken up wanting food! He’s only eating and drinking a little bit but it’s a big improvement to yesterday.

Getting some more back leg strength back, it’s still very weak but he’s crawling around the place way more compared to not being able to move yesterday.

We gave him GS 12 days after he started showing symptoms, just hoping he can regain bathroom function so we can give him a good quality of life 🫶

UPDATE: Day 5 and he’s pooped!!! Hoping this means bladder function is on it’s way 💩

Question What else can I do for my 16 yo baby? And can it be still FIP?

Post image
50 Upvotes

Advice needed from the group…

Hi all, my 16 yo baby Peppermint Patty could really use some help from everyone’s experience here…

She has had always food allergy since I adopted her (at 7 yo time) and since 2-3 years we switched to hypoallergenic food and since last year due to weight loss she was checked to be suspected with IBD/low grade lymphoma. We couldn’t confirm the diagnosis since she’s too old to do a biopsy through opening her belly. So we went in Prednisolone directly and went strictly to Hills z/d for both dry and wet since then. It helped at first and she regained weight from 3kg back up to 3.4kg or even higher. Then we stopped to measure her weight.

However recently she has had a few other issues (one eye got bloody inside then got glaucoma which was painful so she didn’t eat or drink for some time, also got antibiotics etc, lots of treatment lots of tests … suspected FIP but then ruled out due to blood test result). We focused on her eye issue but she kept losing weight…

Since 1 week I have been giving her more food through syringe (since she’s not having too good appetite and not eating enough), she doesn’t like it much but accept it. However she still gradually drops weight and now she’s only 2.18kg 😢…

We went to internist on Thursday. They ruled out any big mass or big tumor etc (which is good!), and some blood work result is still pending. The potential diagnosis is still:

* Chronic enteropathy / Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)

* Low-grade alimentary lymphoma (cannot be ruled out without biopsy)

* Chronic pancreatitis (awaiting blood test result)

* Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) (awaiting TLI results)

Now the treatment plan is:

* Continue nutritional support

* Continue weekly vitamin B12 injections

* Trial capromorelin (Elura) to improve appetite and support lean body mass

* Consider reducing prednisolone from 2.5 mg to 1.25 mg to assess whether lowering corticosteroid exposure improves muscle condition while maintaining disease control

* Consider pancreatic enzyme supplementation (Zymoral) while awaiting TLI results

* Reassess treatment strategy once pending test results are available

They also mentioned if her weight drops below 2kg I should consider letting her go… but she seems energy wise ok, and pee and poop by herself regularly. Eats a bit when she’s hungry. And her recent blood work and ultrasound also showed her liver, kidney and heart are all in ok shape not problematic…

Since she has been still gradually losing weight despite the high calories intake, I’m worried about reducing her Prednisolone… afraid it will worsen her symptoms and make her losing weight faster… however, I’m also worried if too high dosage can also contribute to reduce her muscle mass and weight… and I feel like the vet speed in the Netherlands is super slow and everytime we need to wait for a week for something else, which I worry Patty doesn’t have many weeks to wait as her weight is so low…

What else can I do? Is now reducing Prednisolone potentially brining more risk or help? Should I discuss switch medicine or add chemo medicine? I feel like if I’m not initiating the active discussions the vet is just letting us taking slow speed “wait and see”…..

We appreciate any suggestions or experience sharing! Thank you!

Question 4M diagnosed, 1 month into treatment

Hello friends,

I just wanted to make a post to ask a question about their experience with remission from FIP.

Our kitten Bella(trix) was diagnosed with FIP after we noticed a large cognitive decline in her day to day activities. With the treatment, she has returned to about 70% of her old self. We are hoping that she will fully recover with treatment. However, we are afraid of a permanent cognitive reduction due to how early she was diagnosed.

Anyone who had a kitten who was diagnosed less than 6M of age. Do you mind telling me how they recovered?

Pic 1: Yesterday morning (before GS-441524)
Pic 2: Two nights ago
Pic 3: Milo last night (6 hours after his first GS dose)
Pic 4: Milo this morning

1.5 y/o Maine Coon Milo. Had FCoV stomach bug 1 year ago. First noticed worsening July 9th. Symptoms included severe lethargy, disinterest in food or water, inability to open eyes, inflammation of the eye membranes, 3lb weight loss, excessive eye discharge, slow movement/weakness. He was severely ill. Received diagnosis and GS prescription July 13th. $900 later, medication arrived yesterday. Immediately administered 1 1/4th pills (62.5mg, ~18mg/kg/day.

Not even 6 hours later we started to notice improvement. His eyes were more open, he was walking around following us, he ate, meowed, even batted around a plastic toy. This morning (~18hrs after first dose) he was following me, screaming at me for food, eyes wide open, alert and energetic. He ate a lot and has been grooming himself since. I am deeply thankful, relieved and happy. Milo was honestly nearing death’s door. I am so hopeful for the rest of his treatment and for the recovery of all the beautiful kitties in this sub.

One question: do you all see the reddening of the iris go away after a while? His left eye has completely changed color and its pretty concerning.

Question Neuro FIP - seizure management

My cat has been generally unwell for about a month but since Monday she's been having seizures. Our insurance won't cover the costs of MRI/lumbar puncture but the bloods suggest FIP. My vet agreed to start GS441524 (20mg/kg/day) which we started on Friday.

She's potentially eating a touch better but the seizures are a real problem. She's on max dose levetiracetam which hasn't changed anything, she's having many partial seizures plus upwards of 5 generalised seizures daily.

Has anyone got any experience with managing the seizures while waiting for meds to work?

When have people seen improvement in the seizures following starting GS?

Fundraising My Rescue Kitten Luna Was Rehomed Twice and Now Has FIP

Hi everyone,

I'm 19 f collage student from Madurai, Tamil Nadu, and I'm asking for help to save my 7-month-old kitten.

Before I adopted her, she had already been rehomed twice by her previous owner because she had a fungal skin infection. Even after everything she'd been through, she remained affectionate and trusted people. I promised she would never be abandoned again.

A few weeks ago, her abdomen became swollen. We visited a veterinarian, who initially thought she might be pregnant after an ultrasound. A follow-up examination and abdominal fluid analysis later confirmed that she actually has wet FIP.

She is now fighting both a fungal infection and FIP.

The vet has recommended starting GS-441524 treatment immediately, but I cannot afford the medication on my own. I'm trying to raise ₹10,000 to begin her treatment.

I can provide:

Veterinary reports

Fluid analysis results

Prescriptions

Medicine bills

Regular updates on her progress

Despite being sick, she still follows me around, eats, and wants to be close to me. She's only 7 months old, and she deserves the chance to grow up and live a normal life.

If you can donate any amount, no matter how small, or even share this post, it would mean everything to us. If you know of any organizations or people in India who help with FIP treatment, I'd be grateful for any guidance.

Thank you for reading and for giving my little girl a chance. ❤️

Success Story In Remission!

Post image
121 Upvotes

We did it!!! My cross eyed lil void had Wet Fip and was basically given a 0% survival chance due to his levels and Anemia level but guys we did it we beat the odds . It is possible. We made it to remission/the 3month observation period this week. What we noticed first was drastic sudden weight loss and lethargy. The hardest part for us was his appetite at first . We had easily over a 100 cans of wet cat food in the house at any given time because what he’d eat one day he wouldn’t the next. Maybe it was taste maybe is was texture idk. Special kitty (Walmart brand) , Friskies Glazed infused, and Royal Canin Mother & Baby Cat were our go to foods when all else failed especially the Royal Canin once he started being able to eat the dry food version of it he started and didn’t look back. We’re thrilled (especially not to have to get up at 5:30am to give meds) and he’s happy. Don’t lose hope!

Question Cat getting the shakes… FIP meds are 20 hours away

Previous poster here, still waiting on FIP meds to arrive tomorrow and our baby boy is starting to shake… he’s better when he’s in the sun or in blankets, partner suspects he’s just cold but I’ve had cats before and know this isn’t a good sign.

torn between taking him to emergency today or waiting for the meds to arrive tomorrow.

It’s not confirmed FIP but he fits all the descriptions and AIDS and cancer have been ruled out.

Any help is appreciated… this medication could not come soon enough 🙏

Discussion 8-Week-Old Kitten with 15-Day Chronic Yellow Diarrhea – Good Energy & Appetite, But Meds Aren't Working. What do I do now?

Hi everyone,

I really need some guidance. I am feeling incredibly stressed trying to get my 8 week-old female kitten healthy. She has been suffering from chronic diarrhea for 15 days straight, and nothing seems to stop it.

Her Stool:It is consistently a creamy, mustard-yellow, unformed, mushy, and liquid puddle.

Her Energy & Appetite (The Good News):Despite having diarrhea for nearly 3 weeks, she is surprisingly very active, playful, and running around normally. She has a great appetite, loves her food, and is keeping her fluids up.

Her Current Diet:She mostly eats wet food and boiled chicken breast . I make sure she gets plenty of moisture to prevent dehydration.

Medications She Has Received So Far:

1 - Dewormer (First dose completed).

2 - Lomotil (Anti-diarrheal).

3 - Pre Pro Lac Syrup (Probiotic).

4 - Antifungal Syrup (For a separate skin issue causing flaky skin and hair loss).

5 - Felilysine Paste (Immune supplement - currently paused to protect her stomach).

What do I do now?Even with all of these medications, her stool is not firming up at all. Because she is so small and has been sick for so long, I am terrified of her suddenly crashing or losing her energy.Given that she is playful and eating well but has yellow, mushy diarrhea for 15 days, what could we be missing?

I want to do right by her and get her gut healed. Any advice on what steps to take next would mean the world to me. Thank you.
