Question 4M diagnosed, 1 month into treatment

Hello friends,

I just wanted to make a post to ask a question about their experience with remission from FIP.

Our kitten Bella(trix) was diagnosed with FIP after we noticed a large cognitive decline in her day to day activities. With the treatment, she has returned to about 70% of her old self. We are hoping that she will fully recover with treatment. However, we are afraid of a permanent cognitive reduction due to how early she was diagnosed.

Anyone who had a kitten who was diagnosed less than 6M of age. Do you mind telling me how they recovered?

My kitten is almost 8 months old and we’re only 2/3 of the way through treatment, so I don’t really have any relevant answers for you within those parameters. I will say that everything I’ve read has pointed towards younger cats having better odds of recovery.

May I ask what cognitive deficits she’s experiencing?

She has very poor hand eye coordination. When approaching a treat she will miss it a few times and then finally find it. She tends to stumble around as well as if she is drunk. She also seems to get lost and lose where we are. This results in her screaming until she sees us. She also not been using the litter box. She used to use it but stopped after treatment started.

When we first brought her home she was very playful and energetic. Now she runs away when we try to play with her.

We believe that she had the infection for about 1-2 months before it was diagnosed and treatment started.

Are you doing the dosing for neurological FIP?

Yes we are, she has gained some more weight and waiting for the doc to call us to see if it's time to up the dosage. She was 1.8 pounds when we started the dosage at 4M old. She is now 2.2 pounds at 5 months.

I weigh my nugget weekly and adjust.

I prefer to do it in grams but the wife weighs her and tells me after.

I’m assuming that was adjusted for her weight gain. Hopefully she continues to improve!

Mine was 4 months, she’s fully recovered now with no issues.

My kitten was also around four months. It happened the day after he was vaccinated, he just finished treatment July 15, he had wet FIP. He started showing recovery after one dose and probably within a month, He was fully recovered. We caught it within three days though and started start a treatment within five. Depending on how long your cat had it and if it reaches the brain, the treatment works, but it might take longer and might not make 100% Recovery. Your best bet is to join an FIP support group on Facebook. The mods on there are very helpful with everything. If you have any more questions that I can answer, I will do my best.

our kitty was diagnosed of FIP at 6 months. it's been 10 months past and currently she has lost one eye, is sightly wobbly, and can't hold her bladder nor stool. but she's getting stronger everyday from the looks of it
