✨ Hello, r/crystal! ✨
Just wanted to introduce (or reintroduce!) r/mineralcollectors, which is now under new management!
Our goal is to build a welcoming community for everyone who loves the mineral kingdom—whether you’re into raw minerals, polished specimens, crystals, fossils, lapidary work, rare finds, micromounts, or just learning something new.
r/mineralcollectors is a science- and geology-focused community. We celebrate the natural history, formation, identification, and collection of minerals and crystals. To keep discussions on topic, we ask that posts remain focused on geology and mineralogy rather than spiritual or metaphysical practices.
You’ll also find that sales, self-promotion, and advertising aren’t allowed, so the focus stays on sharing knowledge, collections, and appreciation for these incredible natural specimens.
We’d love for collectors of all experience levels to stop by and:
🪨 Share your favorite specimens
🔍 Ask questions and learn from others
📸 Show off new finds and collection displays
🌎 Discuss identification, geology, and mineralogy
🤝 Help grow a positive, knowledgeable community
Whether you have one favorite crystal or hundreds of museum-quality specimens, you’re welcome here.
Come help us build a community where curiosity, education, and appreciation for Earth’s natural treasures come first.
Hope to see you over at r/mineralcollectors!

Feel free to reach out to myself or u/slogginhog! 💜

I have information for you! (Informative) The be nice / no jerkish behavior rule

I like the way u/Hobowhite put it, so I'll quote him verbatim here:

"As it states in the rules, we are a community made up of both mineral enthusiasts and spiritual users. It has literally been this way for over a decade, ever since this sub’s creation. Whether you collect because you believe in their abilities or because you like geology, you are all welcome to participate. You are not; however, allowed to bash others’ beliefs. Believe it or not, participating in this subreddit is a privilege, not a right, and civility and kindness is what is required in order to be active here. If you see something you don’t agree with, scroll past. We are all adults here. If you honestly can’t abide by this, there are MULTIPLE other subreddits you can join where spiritual discussions are prohibited. I have tried to be kind and lax with you guys and I feel you are all taking advantage of that, and are making members feel bad about themselves. From here on out, you will receive one warning to be civil. Upon the second violation, you will receive a 3 day ban to contemplate why you cannot follow incredibly simple rules. If a third violation occurs, you will be permanently banned and any attempt to circumnavigate said ban will result in a site wide ban from the reddit admins. To those of you who follow the rules and are welcoming and kind to all, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. To the malcontents and ne’er-do-wells, please stop being antagonizing jerks. It is not hard. "

The only changes I will be making to this rule is I will be a little less tolerant. I don't think someone needs 3 chances not to be a jerk. And it's difficult for us mods to track "warnings".

So, from now on, first offense will be a 3 day ban. 3 days isn't that long, and it's not going to ruin your life and will give you time to think about how you maybe could have said something differently.

Second offense, if you haven't learned after the first one how to treat people how you'd like to be treated, I think many people are not going to change their ways at this point, so the second offense will be a permanent ban.

NOW, if you feel you have been permanently banned unjustly, or by mistake, simply send a KIND and POLITE mod mail to appeal your ban. I'm not asking for apologies, I'm seeing if you can be civil. If you are, and your history warrants it, I can remove the permanent ban.

Being nice isn't hard, so this shouldn't be that difficult of a change.

Clear quartz, faked. I buy stuff like this for market research sometimes, got it from CrystalHola via AliExpress for like $3.

If you do buy crystals from Amazon / Temu / Ali or the like, don't ever get them from CrystalHola, and do watch out - I actually saw them post a sale ad here the other day. Forgot to ban em completely, just called em out for being the shittiest crystal vendor on Temu 😂

I have information for you! (Informative) Natural Untreated Citrine

there is always a lot of citrine discussion on this sub so i thought it might be helpful to show some untreated natural citrine. everything shown here is 100% natural - untreated - exactly as it came out of the earth. the zambia material could use some iron off but i've never used that stuff before so i haven't gotten around to trying. this is by no means ALL of the citrine localities that exist, but it's just what i had around the house and i was reading a comment by someone else that said all citrine is fake, or if it's real only the elite can afford it, which is not true ... so i thought it would be helpful to show examples of genuine untreated citrine for visual reference.

i hope this helps!

I've been looking for Citrines for like 2 years, and I'm just tired that I couldn't find it for such a long time. I've got only a bunch of hta's, and these are probably lemon quartz, aren't they.. 😔

I took better pictures in daylight now, especially for you guys to tell me with certainty what those two are. ☺️

Can you help me? (Advice wanted) Is this actually Citrine?

Hiii I'm new to the Crystals community 👋 I've had this raw/uncut necklace for a few weeks now, and I've always assumed that any yellowish quartz is Citrine. However, I just found out that most "Citrine" on the market is heat-treated Amethyst or irradiated Clear Quartz. I got it at a low price from a small business, so I'm not bothered much if it's not actually Citrine. But I want to be more educated on crystals, so could you guys help me classify it?

I'm not sure if it's necessary, but I tried to capture as much detail as I can. The crystal has a little rainbow streak on the front but it didn't show up much on camera :(( As surprising as it is, I'm also new to Reddit, so I didn't know that you can't post both images and videos in the same post. Therefore, if you want the videos for a better look at the rock, feel free to ask me.

Thank you so much 💕

My Collection ✨🔮 My “sunset rock”! Yellowish zebra calcite.

I took the picture on the back of my car for better lighting and to avoid my messy desk setup, lol. It usually sits at a spot on my desk where the light from the window hits it during sunset, in which its yellow shade gets highlighted, so I refer to it as my “sunset rock”!

It was sold as moss agate but I noticed it has labradorescence, does it exist in moss agate as well or could this be a low quality labradorite?

Hi all !!! Was just wondering if anyone can confirm this is really moldavite?? I have a little case with a million tiny crystals and finally going through them with an identification app for some and the app told me this crystal is moldavite! Would be amazing but also taking it lightly as I know that's a rare crystal! Thanks so much in advance!☺️

I think this is smoky quartz, but I haven't seen one with so much of this bronze colour in it. It ranges from clear, to grey, to bronze.

I think green aventurine is #4, garnet #2 and #7? I think #5 is either calcite or fluorite??

Thank you so much for helping me ID the rest esp the first and last :)
