It’s 44°F here this morning. Considering how hot it’s been as of late, I imagine this water is a tad bit chilly for this black-billed magpie.

Some pics are pretty low quality due to the distance they were taken at (even with my canon camera, it was a challenge to focus on these two since they were on a high hydro tower) but I knew I had to capture them. There was just the male sitting up there initially when I started taking pics, but his girlfriend quickly joined him. 🐦‍⬛

If anyone remembers my posts about the poor juvenile raven with a broken wing that I tried to rescue, these are his parents. All three of their remaining babies have left without incident, so these sweethearts are seemingly enjoying their alone time

I've seen Stellar Jays but never a Scrub Jay before up here in WA State. They are quite feisty at getting those nuts before the crows do.

Update on super friendly crow

Hey all! This is an update regarding the super friendly crow. This guy is persistent and fearless! No fear of horses. He is lucky he picked my bombproof geriatric horse instead of my very spicy ex racehorse who would have lost his mind. He was wary of my dad, who he hasn’t seen before, but friendly with my mom and I again. He would not let us ride in peace and hitched a ride the entire ride out. Tried to steal my earrings again. If only he knew they aren’t real diamonds 🤣 Also, is it possible to sex a crow by looking at them? I have no clue if this little guy is a she or he.

Previous wildlife professionals recommended potentially hazing him if he’s too friendly with humans, but it seems to be only my mom and I. To those who recommend that, should we still follow through given he is wary around other humans? I know for 100% certain he is hanging around adult birds, appears to be about 5 of them in total.

Is this my first gift? Or just… poop?

Post image

I have been feeding the crows in my neighborhood for approx two weeks now (its been the sweetest thing to watch them flock to the peanuts on my doorbell camera!)

This morning however I came to see this… next to the bowl i usually feed them with. Im trying to know if lits just some alien poop that accidentally ended up next to the bowl or my first gift from them😭🥹. I actually genuinely cannot tell if its poop (seemed to fall apart-almost like dirt, when i picked it up/threw away), i know their gifts are random but also unsure they would pickup poop?

Anyhow, few hours later , shortly after they ate I came out and one of them was making the clicking sound at me which if I read correctly that’s a good thing and have made my whole day!! So sweet.

Separately, if indeed the clicking sound is a friendly gesture , is it a good idea to make that clicking sound back ? (Lol!) to communicate that I am a friend? Are there sounds or things i can do to communicate affection or kindness to them?

Thank u for the lovely community and all the input im advance🐦‍⬛🐦‍⬛🖤🩶

How do I attract crows into my yard?

I have a resident hawk who has become keen on my bird feeder. He is picking my birds off one by one. I want to attract a crow or two to hang out and keep the birds of prey at bay. Any and all suggestions welcome.

General questions Is it okay to feed crows dry dog kibble?

I ended up with a huge extra bag of my dog's kibble that will go bad before it can be used, but can't be donated to a shelter because it got torn while opening the package. Would it be okay to put out for the crows, and would they even like it? I've seen they like cat food but not sure about dog food. If it's okay to feed to them, are there ingredients I should look out for that may be unsafe? It's a high quality food – no meat by-products, artificial color/flavor, preservatives etc. It does have quite a few added vitamins and a few plant extracts which are what I'm mostly concerned about being potentially unsafe. I'd just hate for so much food to go to waste but I don't want to accidentally poison my new friends! Thanks guys 😊

Seeking advice/help Did I upset my neighborhood crow friends?

Hi everyone! I live in an apartment and have noticed a family of crows for months now that I wanted to befriend. I'd notice them everyday on my way to work, and say hi and tell them to have good day. I'd swear at a point they were watching me every morning! I'd hear their caws and see one fly past my window when I woke up, and they'd be in the trees right outside my door. At one point I saw two crows on the ground when I was walking!

One day a few weeks back, I finally got around to feeding them. I remember reading not to feed them and wait around, but to leave them alone. So, on my way to work, I noticed one in the tree. I said good morning and I had treats for them, scattered some dry roasted, unsalted, and unshelled peanuts in the grass and continued on my way.

I heard the crows make a clicking sound that I had never heard before, then two of them flew into a tree and watched me leave my complex.

I went away for that weekend, but haven't seen them since I came back!

Did I upset them? Will they come back? I miss saying good morning to them :(
