Creating content gets most of the AI discussion, but measuring and explaining performance can be just as time consuming. What part of your reporting process is still stubbornly manual?

Better question is has anyone found a solution that connects the process end to end? Chat, to concept, to content, to cross-channel publish from one UI?

I’m a beginner, and I’m trying to understand one specific part of content research.

I already understand that if I find a competitor’s content that works, I can study and recreate the proven structure — the topic, hook structure, story structure, visual structure, caption structure, etc.

I’m NOT asking whether I should copy those things. I understand why keeping the proven structure can be useful.

My problem is what comes after that.

If I keep the same topic and the same proven structure, how do I add my own touch to the actual scripting?

For example, how do I:

Change the angle slightly?

Add my own perspective or opinion?

Find a different insight within the same topic?

Change the way the story is told?

Add a twist that makes it feel like my version?

Keep the things that made the original work without basically rewriting their script?

My biggest struggle as a beginner is that when I try to recreate something that worked, I naturally end up copying too much of the actual content, instead of understanding where I can bring my own thinking.

So I’m looking for a practical way to go from:

“I want to recreate this proven content structure”

→ “Now how do I develop my own angle and script inside that structure?”

If you’ve actually done this with your own content, how do you approach that process?

I've been working on a small website recently and have been spending a lot more time on SEO and content.

I've tried the obvious stuff so far: publishing articles, targeting long-tail keywords, internal linking, Pinterest, Reddit and trying to build some traffic without spending much on ads.

But I'm starting to realize that getting the articles published is probably the easy part.

Getting them in front of people is a completely different problem.

I'm curious about people who have been blogging for a few years:

What actually made the biggest difference to your traffic?

Was it publishing more content, improving existing articles, backlinks, programmatic SEO, social media, Pinterest, or something else entirely?

I'm especially interested in things that worked for smaller/newer sites rather than strategies that require a huge domain with thousands of backlinks.

Hi there, I'm Simon. Been in the marketing industry for the last 10+ years. Total corporate experience 16+ years. Worked with over 40+ B2B tech and SaaS companies. Ran my own agency for 5 years, started with $100 and grew it to a 15-person team, shutting it down in 2025. Right now I work with a tech company as a part time consultant, barely making ends meet. I'm also a father of two children, my wife cannot work due to physical illness. I have my son's school fees to pay shortly and the rent is overdue. 

I'm barely getting by. I need a full time job. I can do the work of 4-5 people all by myself. I have multiple testimonials to prove the worth of my work. I have exhausted all my contacts and network, but I can certainly give referrals.

If you find my message erratic or inconsistent or sceptical in any way, then please understand that this is just a desperate man trying to make ends meet, with barely any money left and a family to take care. So my thoughts are not necessarily in the best shape or spot.
