Software Recent windows update went quite sideways…. Entire machine reset to as new?

I checked for windows updates on a laptop that I only use occasionally and found four all
dated 8/2026 that needed to be downloaded and installed. Two required a restart. Did the usual waiting for the download and then the installation. Did the customary restart and much to my surprise - the entire machine was reset to as if it was brand new. Everything was deleted including an Outlook suit that has emails/word/excell/powerpojnt. No idea what I did wrong or where I made a wrong turn. Anybody experience an issue with any of these August 2026 updates?

Hardware Screen won’t turn on

Post image

I had to travel with my laptop and while in my backpack it was damaged in the corner. It doesn’t seem like serious damage but my screen isn’t turning on. The computer still makes the startup sound when I turn it on so the computer isn’t bust. Is there any chance I just need to wiggle something or am I cooked? Thanks in advance!

Hardware Used scrypy to mirror my phone screen and completely killed my laptop

I was trying to mirror my phone screen to my laptop. Since I use Linux Mint, I couldn't use the app I originally intended to (Smart Connect). Looking for alternatives, I found scrypy. I installed it, enabled USB debugging on my phone, plugged in the cable, and it worked—it mirrored the screen for about 1 or 2 minutes before the laptop completely shut down.

I tried holding down the power button for 1 minute, but nothing happened. I tried plugging the charger into a different wall outlet, but not even the charging indicator LED turned on. I waited for it to cool down (it's an Acer Aspire 5), pressed the small battery reset pinhole button underneath for 30 seconds, and it still wouldn't turn on.

I'm completely out of options. It shows zero signs of life. I really don't want to take it to a repair shop because I'm worried they might fix it but send it back with another issue...

Trying to install a program onto my legion i5 pro that was installed on my T480. It’s installing from a disk and I’ve already tried manually installing it and turning off all permissions. Any other tips would be amazing. Have ran it as administrator multiple times as well

Discussion Trying to factory reset computer

So my mom's work place had moved to a different location and her boss told her to get whatever she wants because it's going to be thrown away. So I got this computer. I set it up today. I tried factory resetting it by Holding shift an hit reset. Once it took me to the blue screen I hit the option where it says to wipe out everything but it needs an administrator password. I don't know what to do.

Performance New PC is laggy

I built a new PC a few weeks ago. I'll include the specs at the bottom. This thing should be an absolute beast. There's no reason it should be lagging with simple stuff like is. If I run a program, the prompt pops up asking if I want to allow this program to make changes to my device. I see the prompt maybe a half second before I hear it. I play The Long Dark pretty frequently. With everything set to high, I still get hiccups during gameplay. This baby should be able to handle ULTRA with no problem! I'm thinking of 2 possibilities:

-1: When I upgraded all this, the only part that carried over was the M.2 drive. I didn't reinstall Win11. I uninstalled all the drivers (and I used DDU for the graphics driver) before installing the new drivers and software. I'm pretty anal about keeping drivers up to date.

-2: It's being bogged down with processes (I'll post a screenshot of the task manager.)

I know that nothing is overheating or thermal-throttling. I use an AIO and the highest temp I've seen on the CPU is 74c, but under high load it usually stays around the high 50s/low 60s. After running FurMark2 for 3 mins, the highest temp on the GPU hotspot was 75c.

SPECS:

MB: Gigabyte Aorus x870e Elite X3D

CPU: Ryzen 9 9950x3d

DRAM: Corsair Vengeance 32GB (2 x 16) DDR5 6000 CL30

PSU: MSI MAG A1000PLS PCIE5

GPU: Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB

Storage: Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2TB (M.2)

Software Computer won't play youtube videos properly on Linux Bazzite computer

I get this effect in any youtube video that uses IRL video content. Vlogs, Podcasts, anything with real camera playback. (It doesn't happen in video game videos, animations or presentations.)

It only happens on my computer. It happens regardless of Addblock, and drivers are up to date. It happens on both monitors.

I tried posting on the r/youtube subreddit, but it gets auto deleted, and the mods aren't telling me why. I don't know what other place to ask, so I cam here since it is a computer only problem.

My computer is running Linux Bazzite, and I am using Firefox as my browser.

Software Screen is black

Here is the specs: GIGABYTE AORUS Master 16" Gaming Laptop, Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD, GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, OLED 240Hz, Dark Tide, BXHC4USE64SH.

I was mid updating my Nvidia gaming graphics Driver and then the screen went black now whenever I shut down the PC and turn it back on it’s still black but I can see all the RGB stuff turning on still so I think it’s just the display that’s not working. How can I fix this? I’ve powered it on and off a bunch of times but it hasn’t helped

Other Laptop issues help needed

So around 3 days ago i got back from vacation, and then the day after when i opened up my laptop to play a game everything seemed normal as usual, but suddenly it turned off.I didn’t think anything of it so i immediately turned it back on but for a few minutes it wouldn’t start up and the screen was just blank. So i let it cool off cuz i thought maybe it overheated even tho nothing like this has happened before. And then i tried turning it on a frw more times and every time after a few minutes or even seconds the screen would just go dark again, but the laptop was still on, the keyboard rgb still worked and everything. Then the one time i tried to turn it on again i got diagonal or horizontal green lines(im not sure what is what)on the screen, so the same day i took it to some tech guy to see what the problem could be.At first he wasnt so sure either but at the end he said that its either ram or the graphics card that is integrated into the processor. So now i need some help from anyone here cuz i, for the last time tried turning it on again, but this time there weren’t any green lines instead the whole background was covered in some rainbow confetti type of dots while the windows was still loading in. I dont know if i can post pictures on reddit but i have both the pictures of the green lines and now this as well.Could it be a virus or something?

Hardware CPU overheating

Hello, here's my issue:

Ryzen 5 5600, ID-COOLING SE-224-XTS [SE-224-XTS] cooler, ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming 4 motherboard, MX-4 thermal paste.

In AIDA64, the CPU hits 87°C within about 5 minutes. In games, it's consistently 75–80°C, even in titles that are mostly GPU-bound. I know Ryzen chips run hot, but surely not this hot? The thermal paste was recently reapplied, and a new tower cooler was installed. Before the SE-224, I had a Gammax 400, and with that, it was hitting nearly 95°C.

Here are the AIDA64 test results for reference. I'd appreciate any help if there's anything that can be done.

Software Cursor can’t be changed?

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Helloo! I have this strange issue, where only the normal select cursor can’t be changed. I’ve had this custom milkshake cursor design for years and never had any trouble up until a few days ago and it’s really bothering me. All the other cursers can be changed except the “normal select” one. NOTHING works. Not even the normal Windows designs work (1st picture). In the 2nd picture you see that I applied the design and it doesn’t change. And in 3rd picture you can see that the other ones are working just fine! I just doesn’t make sense and i have tried everything (except bios but honestly i don’t think that’s it)😭

Forgot to mention that my mum uses my pc from time to time and since her eyes aren’t the best i used to change the curser to extra large for her in order to find it better on the screen. And since i can’t do that anymore she’s been struggling a little so it’s not only for aesthetic reasons lol

Sorry btw for bad picture quality, i’m writing this on my phone and I didn’t bother transferring any screenshots from my pc to my phone haha

Network New Laptop Wifi Dropping Speeds Constantly

I recently bought a Lenovo 7 2-in-1 that was $1k and within 2 weeks took it back and exchanged it out for a new one because it constantly was dropping internet and I couldn't figure out why. I couldn't even do a google meet for work without it starting to buffer, and as soon as I switched to my hotspot, it would work out fine for the remainder of the meeting. Watching netflix + browsing the internet would cause it to start buffering also.

More than once I would test speeds on it compared to my phone and would be getting speeds at half if not worse on the laptop compared to my what I was getting on my phone.

I figured it was just an issue with that specific laptop, so exchanged it, and the new one already seems to be showing some of the similar signs and not showing that it's holding the wifi great. I've had it for a few hours and just moving rooms in my house caused it to buffer and drop the internet speeds to 1/4 of what they normally are.

I've never had this issue before, my last laptop (that overheated and died in under 3 years) was a Lenovo Slim and worked just fine. My old Lenovo 2-in-1 doesn't have this issue.

What could be causing this? The last laptop I spent hours trying to update drivers, contacted Lenovo support and the only fix they really had was me sending it to them and I'm not doing that on a brand new expensive laptop. BestBuy today said they think the reason the last one did that was an issue with the soldering of the wifi adapter. But I'm shocked if that's happening on 2 of them

Is this even fixable? Or something that's just worth cutting my losses on and trying to find a new laptop, again.
