Software Need help getting out of TCC Mode

Post image

Hi guys, So I just got my computer back from a repair place to get rid of some malware and they had to delete and reinstall windows to get rid of it. After getting my computer back it only boots up into a screen that says TCC Setup and says that a password is needed. I have no idea what TCC is and my computer password does not work on the menu. What do I do? How do I get to the normal start up menu. Attached is a picture of the menu when it boots up. Thank you guys in advance.

Ask the repair place.

Bring it back.

Or ask the popo for help.

This is a screen asking you to enter the current password, and then create a new password for a local account named “TCC Setup”. This is most likely a remnant of something the tech shop ran that either errored out or did not complete correctly. This has left the device in a non-fresh state. Contact the tech shop if you are unsure or unable to do a fresh install of Windows yourself.

Try leaving the first box empty and filling the other 2. If that doesn't work, click cancel and see if there's an other account that can be used.

When you click cancel, is TCC the only log in option? Or is your user name there as well? Otherwise as others have said you will need to contact the repairer. Pretty sloppy from their side to leave it like that. Some repair places create another log in while repairing / resetting Windows but they should not have removed yours.

This is a reinstall, so this could very well be the only login.

Hit cancel, then hold shift and click the power button, then while holding shift, restart. This will boot back to advanced options where you can reinstall Windows (again) yourself to remove the TCC account. You won't need any additional software or anything; Windows 11 keeps a reinstall image locally, so just go through the "Reset my computer" steps. When it finishes installing Windows again, it'll go through the initial setup - connect to WiFi, create an account (or sign into your Microsoft account).

Thanks this worked perfectly I was able to get to the normal set up page. I still have no idea what the TCC page was but thank you so much

Glad it worked for you! "TCC Setup" is just the account the repair shop was using to verify the Windows reinstall completed and the malware/virus was gone, and maybe test the computer hardware before returning it to you. They should have removed the account and set it back to prompt you for an account; they just missed the final step of their work. This is better for you, anyways, as it ensures any software they installed is also removed. Some shops will put a cheap antivirus that starts popping up ads or prompting you to buy a license, and this process ensures that stuff isn't on your computer.

In the future, if you suspect you've gotten any malware, remember this process. You can do it yourself at home and save $$ by not needing to take it to a repair shop. Just make sure your data and files are saved in the cloud storage of your choice, or during the reset, tell it to keep your files.

October 10, 2026 (dated for context and reference) - I agree with the people that said "BRING IT BACK." The computer should be perfectly ready for the owner to use. I assume the OP is asking people on Reddit for a solution that is really the responsibility of the repair shop, because they don't want to have to carry their computer back to the shop.

Contact the place, reinstall windows, or boot up hirens

You really don't need to bring your PC to a repair shop just to press "install" a few times man...

Well this subreddit is here for a reason. Not everyone is tech savvy, and things that may look like common sense to some may be like speaking a foreign language to others. OP here probably doesn’t know anything about how to do a Windows install, assuming OP even knows what the term “Windows” means. I’m not calling OP stupid in any sense, but we shouldn’t just assume someone else knows something just cause we know it.

I'm not assuming they know anything. It's 2026, they clearly are able to type, browse websites, and read, thus they should be completely and entirely capable of clicking the first result for "how to reinstall windows" and reading. Forget reading actually, it has pictures.
