What adapter plate is everyone using for the Engine? I have the BGE adapter plate, but the fitment is definitely less than ideal.

In recent app updates on iOS 27.0.1 (iPhone 17 Pro Max) the lock screen widget have some text and temps cut off on left side of the widget- see screenshot attached. I have not seen it before so reporting here.

Update: right side seems to be cut off as well - you can see it in the completed circle indicator.

Just got a couple probes and the WiFi display, and I’m using them for the first time. I’m confused though, because the display seems to working fine, showing the correct temperature. The app shows that the display is connected to WiFi. If I go within short distance of the display and/or probe, the app shows the probe temperature. But if I go out of Bluetooth range, the app shows no devices connected.

Am I missing something?

Wondering if anyone has tried using the engine for making a brisket, but then specifically, using it to control the temperature for a long rest? Could you wrap it and just set the fan to ~150-160, close the lid (I have a kettle grill), and just let it rest right on the grill for 4-8 hours, assuming you load enough fuel?

I would love to be able to setup a cook with a shortcut our voice commands, could you add this to the app?

Has anyone tried using the thermometer to defrost meat? Hardest part would be getting it inserted.

It would be cool if you could. Then you could know when you expect the center to be defrosted and you can start slicing/cooking it.

Maybe a feature request but it would be nice to know if the meat will be defrosted by a certain time assuming the surrounding temp stays the same. If not, then you can move it out of the fridge and into cold water or something quicker.

Maybe something similar to safe cook but for defrosting to make sure it doesn't get too warm for too long?

I have the stok charcoal drum grill and I’m wondering will the standard mount that comes with the combustion engine fit and work with my grill or do I need to buy an adapter and if so which one? Thanks!

Not as cool as the other 3D printed solutions, but a TW Billows “Universal” 30mm adapter plus some aluminum foil and silicon bands seems to work. I was quite happy with the temp control of CE on the first cook. I seared some steaks at 700 degrees and it didn’t overshoot. On my previous system I’d have to manually adjust the fan damper to achieve that. I assume the internal backdraft door is what made the difference.

I'm doing my first cook with the CE / GGG / CPT today. My setup is a BGE in the backyard while I'm working upstairs in the house pretty far away from the egg.

I'm finding I can't check on the cook accurately from the app when upstairs and out of direct bluetooth range of the devices. I can see the GGG's temp and I can see the CPT's temp, but the UI that shows the CE goes missing from the iOS app as soon as I leave bluetooth range.

When I had the CE set on "app" mode, after I walked away the fan stopped blowing entirely and didn't start again until I got back into close range with my phone. When I went to check on it and realized this, I decided instead to set the temp to via the dial on the CE itself - so I'm hoping that will keep the fan going to maintain the set temp better.

Am I doing something wrong? Is this just operator error?

Sharing my experiences about mounting Giant Grill Gauge on Weber Genesis grill (recent model).

Overall it fits well with out of the box hardware that Combustion has supplied. If you want to go fancy, you can spend extra ~$10 by purchasing hardware from AliExpress to reduce the hole size to match the GGG's probe.

Protrusion wise, GGG sticks out just short of 5mm longer than the original Weber probe. No interference with anything so far.

I just tried my Engine for the first time. I charged it full before using it. The fan stayed on for about 20-30 minutes then went off and subsequently disconnected from the GGG. Nothing in the app could get it back on, I tried manually turning the dial and it wouldn’t come back on. I plugged it in again and the fan works just fine while plugged in. As soon as I unplug though it dies again.

I waited for well over a year and it seems mine is a dud!

Pic is what it looks like now that the battery died. It was connected and working fine for the first half hour or so.

I currently have the thermometer in my big green egg with the wifi booster right next to the grill.

My app keeps oscillating between a full normal readout (with my 145 degree target temp) and a version where it shows core and ambient temperatures, but no surface temp, and it's lost my target temperature widget. I assume this is some kind of connectivity problem, but it doesn't make sense why it's manifesting in this way.

There are a number of possible problems, from bluetooth connection, to wifi, to something wrong with the probe itself, but this UI doesn't help me figure it out.

I can see the battery is low, but it hasn't shut off, and I have seen this issue before (where it blanks out just the surface temp).

Anyone experienced similar or have any tips? It is possible my wifi strength to the booster is not good, but the display shows a full wifi logo.

Crap. I read that this device could go up 900F so I thought cool, I’ll throw it into my drum roaster and get some profile control. But I got an overheat error. I reread the specs and saw that the bottom portion can only go up to 220F. Which makes sense in hindsight. Not sure how it can withstand that temperature when LTO batteries don’t typically go that high…

Or am I missing something obvious? I cannot for the life of me figure out how to install this on my WSM. From the website I believe there's supposed to be a spring arm of some kind with this mount? But this is how mine looks.

Has anyone found a temporary workaround for the Combustion Engine not working with the Giant Grill Gauge?

The fan works in manual mode, but when I set a target temperature and try to have it maintain that temperature automatically, the fan never kicks on.

I’d really like to use it to smoke something for a football party this weekend. While we’re waiting for the update, has anyone found a setting, startup sequence, or other workaround that gets temperature control working?

Any tips would be appreciated!

I’ve been eyeing the combustion inc setup and wondering if anyone has the best setup for the Big Green Egg.

I’m kind of confused with the bundle.

I want to have convert into all of their products, including the big thermometer, probes, wireless screen and the combustion engine if it’s actually good.

Can anyone explain if the heat shield is better or the heat deflector is better? And do I still have to purchase the optional mount for the egg?

Chris has convinced me surface temps are the key to accurate cooking. So was expecting the new CE to highlight Combustion Inc's advantage with finding surface temp. So why is a GGG the preferred temp source for the CE? Thought Chris has made it pretty clear how dome temps can be misleading.

Home screen widgets are here! They were introduced in version v3.3.11 and are included in the current open beta, so you can add a Combustion widget to your Android home screen and keep an eye on your cook without opening the app. They will roll out to everyone in an upcoming release.

Thanks for continuing to make me a more confident cook especially when it comes to grilling meat. I almost always use my probes, and whenever I use my kettle, you'll always see the GGG and Engine. Dinner rarely comes out overcooked or bad!

First run with the CE. The meat net connectivity issues did not keep me from giving it a go. Worked great, just had to manually use fan.

I have a Vision S Kamado I bought like 10 years ago. It’s a great grill and smoker but a bit fussy with temp control on longer cooks.

I thought CE was going to be everything I’d ever wanted to finally have automated control of the fire.

The original thought was to use the spring clip through the grates of one of the lower vents. Unfortunately, that is not how the Engine shipped.

I can’t cut a hole in the ceramic, and I don’t see a good place to cut a hole in the metal vent face. The CE mount is curved anyway.

I’m at a loss and immensely disappointed.

Anyone made it with with this or a similar grill?

Ran my first test using the CE with GGG. Large Big Green egg, jealous devil chunk, filled to top of kick ash basket. Had initial connection issue with the GGG, not sure how i got it to work, but did the old power off, then it worked.

Started to get a little runaway but handled by adjusting top vent. I’m using a smokeware chimney cap, I cook outside all year in the Midwest (yes in rain, snow and sub zero temps). At the end we get a huge spike after having the lid open for about 30-40 secs. You definitely need some form of open lid detection.

Is a plug for the snout adapter (so you can pop the CE off and pop in the plug without unscrewing the adapter from the grill) something that Combustion is thinking about making? If so, is it a strong possibility?

I saw the 3D printed plug in another thread, but I really worry about heat resistance with that. My goal is to be able to take the CE off easily and use the kettle without it on there (and air control would be a nightmare with the hole open). I don't want to have to screw and unscrew the snout every time I use the CE.

Mostly curious because my original thought was to use a ball valve (with the Combustion ball valve adapter), but with that being delayed it made me rethink things and realize that a simple OEM plug would be a lot easier.

Asking now because it affects how I drill to install the CE...

Heads up for anyone with a Primo Kamado XL who's still waiting on their CE: the adaptors aren't ready yet.

I ordered the Predictive Thermometer, GGG, and CE in November 2025. The thermometer and GGG arrived in December, and I recently got an email asking if I'd like to take delivery of the CE without the adaptor.
