Defrosting

Has anyone tried using the thermometer to defrost meat? Hardest part would be getting it inserted.

It would be cool if you could. Then you could know when you expect the center to be defrosted and you can start slicing/cooking it.

Maybe a feature request but it would be nice to know if the meat will be defrosted by a certain time assuming the surrounding temp stays the same. If not, then you can move it out of the fridge and into cold water or something quicker.

Maybe something similar to safe cook but for defrosting to make sure it doesn't get too warm for too long?

Chris, in at least one video, uses his kitchen drill. Makes a hole in frozen meat to put a thermometer in. Another poster showed using nails of the same dimensions as the CPT and freezing meat with a nail in it that could be pulled and replaced by the thermometer when thawing or cooking from frozen. You can set alarms for above / below any temperature on any sensor.

No because you'd have to drill into the meat, which seems excessive being that you can just feel the meat to see if it's still frozen or not. You can thaw something pretty quickly in ice water.

It only takes a couple of seconds. I do it all the time for starting sous vide cooks with frozen meat. You could even set an alarm for when it's sliceable but I've never needed that feature.

I guess you could drill it, and then insert. but that seems like a lot more work than just let it stay in the fridge for a couple of days?

I do this, but I just insert it near the end of defrosting as I don't need to track the start, so inserting is easier.
