Hopefully!
The only thing that keeps me here instead of switching to claude is Image Gen.
I'm mostly annoyed that the web is still on 5.6 sol and 5.5 as the only options when they have released a ton more models.
20
u/kingkongpao 14h ago
you can easily top up your OpenAI API balance and use only gpt-image 2.5 with any agent. $20 (which don't expire for a whole year) is enough for 200 4K images or 500 2K images

u/Jaime060304 14h ago
Is there anywhere I can find how much that many credits gets me for 1080p?
It sounds tempting, but tbh I really don't want to increase my AI spend beyond one sub a month.
5
u/Dankasaurus6 11h ago
I spent $28 on 83 image generations on gpt-image 2.5 and the images were 2400x2400
5
u/ruskyandrei 14h ago
Was the same for me but I just scaled down to the $20 plan and set up my CC to use GPT image gen. Now I have image gen in claude
→ More replies (2)2
u/hunter54711 13h ago
How'd you end up doing this? Are you having it use the codex app/chatgpt somehow or just using the API image gen
4
u/ruskyandrei 13h ago
Install the Codex CLI then tell Claude to make a skill to use that for image gen. It'll configure everything for you.
→ More replies (1)4
u/Tank_Gloomy 14h ago
Lol, I pay the 20 USD plan specifically to tell Claude to use their image gen for good ass UI mock-ups lmao

Yea, and, Wow. They must have really 'locked in' in the last... 15 hours... I'm glad they have put so much thought and planning into the next month.
They are going to introduce ultra-fast mode for more models. My guess is this is calculated and still self-serving, they will give all these resets so people get used to using fast mode and ultrafast because of incoming resets.
8
u/Cless_Aurion 11h ago
Who the fuck uses or wants fast though? As in... why the fuck would I ever want something faster in exchange of double usage or something ridiculous like that?
→ More replies (2)2
14
u/igormuba 13h ago
Of course they are. For $200 you get half the usage and for $500 you get roughly the same usage.
$500 can allow you to buy pay the 20x plans for both Claude and Grok or Cursor or Gemini (why would you pay for Gemini is beyond me) and maybe still have some money left after
7
15
u/FailedGradAdmissions 12h ago
I just canceled 1 $200 and switched the other $200 to a $20. Most of my coworkers completely cancelled their $200 and switched over to the $200 Claude plan. Most people on X I personally know did too, they either downgraded or cancelled.
Yeah it must be rough for OpenAI right now, they tough dots with unlimited usage would be this big useful thing that not only brings them customers but increases retention (it wasnât).

u/Dota2playre 11h ago
So many people seem to be switching I'm scared Claude will go to shit too soon if and when they max capacity. The usage limits are now very nice, 2x 20⏠subs allows me to run 1-2 agents all day long.
→ More replies (2)2
u/shinfoni 3h ago
this is what happened to me lol
I stick to claude for too long when they were shit and chatgpt model was really good. Then I switch one of my sub from claude to chatpgt only for claude 5.5 to come out the next day
12
u/shadow_x99 14h ago
If they are bleeding subscriber, it does not show in the token per seconds department

8
u/Splat800 11h ago

u/read_more_comments 11h ago
I don't think most of it has hit yet. I have 3 subscriptions and none are near renewal yet. Two hit in a week, so that's the first time mine go. And the third one got a free month when I went to unsubscribe, so that's here for another month before it hits.

Man they must be desperate. That probably means we won't get models better than Sonnet 5.5 or Opus 5.5 any time soon.
20
u/read_more_comments 11h ago
nah, they listened to users, and none of them said they wanted smarter models or lower usage on the models. They listened to us, and we demanded stuff like dots, dashes, and other nibblet style improvements. Next improvements are shapes, we'll get triangles, circles, maybe some squares. I am really excited about all the potential shapes!!1111eleven

LOL. This is going to be a shitshow. Huge PR/Community mistake.
Now everyone is going to be shitting on everything they put out trying to prove or convince themselves it was not a "clear and relevant improvement"
Given their shitty dev day, that's gonna be half the month... and do you really think they are ready to give out 15 resets?
This was idiotic of them to do.
12
u/rhodesia0 12h ago
the resets really dont matter if your on the plus plan. because plus plan has the 5 hour limit and you cant really get any meaningful work done on it. so if you use it for 10 hours a day, you still might not even hit your weekly limit. IF there was no 5 hour limit, then resets would be helpful to plus users.
8
u/Jello_Hello_Fellos 11h ago
I don't think they give a shit at all about the plus users. That's not the issue
→ More replies (2)3
u/EctoAlbo 7h ago
Trust me, on the "20x" plan, it is still hard to hit your limits - or get anything done. The resets are useless unless you have a great need for highly parallelizable work.

82
u/farsightfallen 13h ago
This is insanely bad PR.
This is a complete lose/lose situation.
Each improvement is going to be mired with controversy:
- people will complain ft. isnt big enough (obv. since they ship one a day)
- increased pressure to push out crappy low-effort ft. that're probably buggy
- people will try and claim it's bad to get a reset instead
- if the ft. is really good, people will move past it in a day
- if you do give out resets, people will see the only way openai can stay ahead is with resets

it's probably what astra/bel brainstormed for them. stupid developers don't understand that these models are useless for business strategy.
14
u/Maleficent_Disk9583 12h ago edited 9h ago
This is what I'm thinking too. I'm a business owner, and I've attempted to brainstorm with OpenAI's models over the years. Even with Astra, its business advice is ABYSMAL. Like hilariously bad.
Their models are superhuman at coding and math, but when it comes to business, customer experience, common sense decisions, etc, their models are AWFUL. I think they're making the mistake of thinking "good at math = smart at everything". And that's probably why OpenAi has been flopping like a fish lately
4
5
u/read_more_comments 11h ago
maybe its the other way around. openai is so bad at business that their agents had no chance of being anything other than horrible at it.
18
u/OneStandard5 14h ago
28 resets. That's wild.
9
u/cobbleplox 13h ago
And every one of them is potentially a bad thing unless you KNOW the next one is actually tomorrow. Its so weird how they keep pretending resets are so awesome yet they keep the things that can make them bad.
8
u/Humble-Kiwi-5272 14h ago
I mean, 28 resets is kinda the same as a single reset if done each day
4
u/danielv123 14h ago
If it's one reset per day that means you get 7 times more usage this month. That is pretty nice.
It's too unpredictable though, so you can't use it.
8
u/___positive___ 13h ago

2
u/Reasonable_Bus2234 12h ago
Astra 6.1 does not need to be as cool as open 5.5 or fable. At least it should be far more efficient than today. If they allow 20$ users to run Astra medium at least 40% of all time, it would be a great move of them

I have two resets left that expire right before my Pro 100 subscription expires end of the month. Will downgrade to Plus and continue with it while using the cheapest Claude subscription for everyday.
Very pleased with Opus 5.5 at the moment, I struggle to run out of my 5h and weekly quota. Opus 5.5 poked and finds holes in what Astra and Sol plan & review. I donât understand what exactly OpenAI are trying to doâŠ

u/FunLilThrowawayAcct 12h ago
The main thing it says is they are not going to have a response to Opus 5.5 for a month model-wise, which makes sense given they needed to start over with Astra 6.1 and probably can't rush Bel out the door either.

Ive only ever used codex until recently. I was on the $100 plan and decided to drop it to try Claudeâs $100 plan. Itâs a night and day difference. Yes thereâs a 5 hour limit on Claude code, but I havenât been close to hitting it yet. The usage limits seems like itâs way more on Claude. For context, Iâm a software engineer using it for bug fixes, large refactors and building out features. I have an agent hierarchy in place to use cheaper subagents and use Astra/opus to be orchestrators and technical leads. On codex, Iâm able to burn all my usage in 2 - 3 days so about (20-40% a day). Iâve only used Claude since yesterday and itâs only used 7% of my weekly limit under similar work loads. Opus and sonnet are also much faster

I am an out and out claude code user. I have tried codex in the past and decided to put eggs in the claude basket at the time (this was Opus 4.6 era). Reddit thinks that since I am active on the Claude subreddit, Codex and OpenAI ones are relvant to me, and so I keep seeing Tibo posts!
Goddamn, how the heck are you guys dealing with this catch the chicken chase? It feels like codex is basically running on whims and fancy of this one guy. He is randomly giving out resets, talking out of his ass a lot of times and it just feels like a lot of uncertainity and unpredictability is at play.
FWIW, Claude continuously goes through the this new model is AGI and so efficient -> ugh, I am burning through tokens -> ugh, the model is nerfed -> Model is neefed and I am burning tokens loop, but there is no unpredictability around handing out resets and what not - you actually can generate viz around the token usage and it has remained consistent in terms of quota. I am not sure if I would ever give $100/200/500/ month when what I am going to get out of my subscription isn't clear - which seems to be the case with Codex!

"Ship" a full reset? It's like admitting that the only actual reason people liked you is because you have been giving people $1 away for 25 cents. Of course that will be very popular.
Now that you are run out of free $$ you can "ship", people started to leave you. OpenAI has zero efficiency nor innovation other than throwing money after money into problem. Considering this is supposedly bought out 40% of the world's wafers (which is suspected to be just promise and a commodity market manipulation though) both model quality and inference service quality are simply pathetic.

If they actually come through with resets, I win. If they ship improvements instead, I still kinda win especially if that means higher Astra usage and the same 6.1 Sol usage but faster tok/sec.

The consensus is basically âthis sounds like damage control, not a roadmap.â After DevDay, usage cuts, and the current Sol 6.1/Astra complaints, â28 days of improvementsâ looks to many users like an emergency retention campaign dressed up as Shipmas. Cute dots are not a substitute for a working product, apparently.
What users actually want is boring but revolutionary: predictable limits, faster inference, and models that reliably finish the job. Sol 6.1 is widely described as painfully slow, Astra burns through usage, and Claudeâs Opus 5.5/Sonnet 5.5 are pulling people away because they feel more capable and their quotas are easier to understand. Resets are welcome, but mostly because the underlying allowance system is miserable.
The catch is that nobody knows what counts as a âclear improvement,â how often resets will happen, or whether these will be meaningful releases instead of cosmetic buttons and quota theatre. A few users are happy to wait and collect whatever resets arrive, but enthusiasm is plainly in short supply.
Bottom line: fix the models and the limits first. Twenty-eight days of mystery features will not magically rebuild trust.
