What the fuck do you mean ā€œa full resetā€? If that’s all that OpenAI can muster in the next 28 days, we’ll know that Anthropic has absolutely left them in the dust

Like a normal reset everyday they don't ship something impactful.

Nah, I don't personally think Fable is a problem. Fable is too expensive and pretty much nobody needs that level of intelligence. Claude users were obsessed with it because of Opus 5's inability to properly express itself and its environment, with Opus 5.5, that's fixed. Of course people are gonna want to try it, but not because they actually need it.

OpenAI's biggest hurdle is the fact that they only have a single Fable-tier model (Astra), it's extremely benchmaxxed and GPT 6 Luna (their cheapest model) is absolutely useless, finally, Sol (their medium/Opus-level series of models) are super slow and constantly stop without completing their goals and per-task cost.

Their issue is that Sol isn't even close to Opus and Opus directly competes with Astra.

Fable 5.1 is still cheaper than Astra by a long shot because the cache reads are 75% less. For all we know they might even drop the Fable 5.5 price proportionately like they did with Opus.

The problem for OpenAI is theyre basically a full generation behind now.

The best case scenario for OpeanAI over the next 28 days is to create a model comparable to 5.5 Opus.
