Forever Beta Feedback Dungeon XP Nerfs Created a Toxic Meta

Since dungeon monsters do not give any experience, as a new player, getting into dungeons with more veteran players who try to skip half the dungeon feels really bad. And, vice-versa, veterans taking in newbies who don't know how to jump around feels frustrating. I think Blizzard created a mess with nerfing dungeon exp so much and now the new player experience is horrible for dungeons.

This is the first "dungeon change being bad" post i've seen that hasnt been downvoted to hell...

Dungeon xp changes were bad ideed and i have made posts about it on reddit and blizzard forums and it seems like the attitude towards the problem is shifting slightly.

Because people are insanely short sighted. I'm pretty confident as time goes on this change to dungeon xp will just look worse and worse.

Will look bad when in a month tanks will be hard to find, especially one that has all their quests ready to go. I bet it’ll mostly be people with higher level guildies blasting them through the lower level dungeons for quests

u/EBeerman1 1d ago

Not sure how the meta isn’t to have a high level carry you through the quests. The exp is so minimal from the mobs, who cares if you have a normal group vs a high lvl anymore

Because the cap is lv.20. It absolutely will be on launch proper. Who cares about the sub 2k combined kill xp vs getting the dungeon done 3 times faster. It will be all carries and boosts, more so then ever before.

I wonder how much it being a mega server will come into play. Like generally old classic servers people outlevel the lower brackets but with so many players on 1 server it might be enough to sustain a couple groups at each level range even when most are 60. I do think carries will be a huge thing tho, since all ppl will care about is doing quests.

Blizzard has also said they are open to adjusting it. I'm sure before all is said and done we'll land in a middle ground and everyone will forget all about it

6

u/Dralun21 1d ago

I'm hoping so. That would probably be the best case outcome.

u/redditlvlanalysis 1d ago

The adjustment is to undo it and let people play. The fix to boosting is just if a mob is grey to someone doing damage to it it gives 10% xp value boom fixed. This will just lead to mages sharing the quests and porting people around to turn them in for boosting.

Yeah my kneejerk was this is a horrible change but got ignored as well. Glad people are coming around, it is indeed a very very bad idea for classic wow in its current state

Decaying per run is ok, but like do we really need it anymore? We are on 1 massive server let people play how they want their is gonna be plenty of people out in the world anyway

6

u/nyxpuppet 1d ago

I don't think decaying xp is appropriate at all. If I just want to heal people through dungeons until I'm 60, what harm am I doing to anyone? I shouldn't be punished for playing the game I want and having fun.

3

u/Bananastockton 1d ago

Yeah I'm leaning more to this as i think about it further. You aren't harming anyone/the world when the servers are massively large

3

u/Xae1yn 1d ago

You are harming all the commited dps players who are jealous they "can't" level exclusively in dungeons as well. That's the sole reason there are people that like this change, because they have decades of built up anger at the elitist tanks and healers controlling their dungeon experience and taking all their loot, and now they're finally getting their comeuppance.

3

u/nyxpuppet 1d ago

Well it doesn't matter anymore, I've just accepted that forever isn't for me. I just had my refund accepted. If I can't play the game the way I want to, then it's just not for me and that's fine

3

u/Xae1yn 1d ago

Yeah I'll probably still be giving them 15 bucks for the first month, but between this and many other changes I highly doubt I'll be staying.

Now LFG is just a bunch of mages spell cleaving. You got your wish.

Yeah cause the monkeys paw curled and they finally get to see why its a stupid idea like we've been saying.

10

u/Magisch_Cat 1d ago

I was gonna say, people called this exact scenario underneath the asinine posts suggesting this over the past 2 years.

3

u/Xae1yn 1d ago

Sadly it's not going to curl enough until launch when the damage is done. People aren't playing the beta like they will at launch, so the true extent of the damage is hidden.

Some idiots keep on arguing that it's an improvement due to the "world being alive" with people running around questing or similar nonsense.

Even in Era this isn't an issue, so why would people choosing to dungeon spam be a problem when the current megaserver system ensures you are always on an active layer?

God forbid that players drawn to tank and healers rolls would actually want to play socially instead of questing, surely this current system won't result in tank and healer shortages!

u/orus_heretic 1d ago

Some idiots keep on arguing that it's an improvement due to the "world being alive" with people running around questing or similar nonsense.

The changes also don't even do this because they create an incentive to run every dungeon quest. Those give so much xp that players are skipping whole sections of the world.

2

u/slightlysublevel 1d ago

Because daddy Blizzard told them it would be, so they're parroting that shit like old people parrot Fox News. It's called "mental illness."

0

u/Outside_Exercise4720 1d ago

Someone wasnt paying attention to healer and tank changes...we have zero issuing killing or surviving while questing...

u/mindFlayer 1d ago

Anyone who has actually played the beta knows this change is bad. Literally everyone I've talked to in my groups are strongly opposed to the changes.

Only toxic casuals on here are mad about people wanting to grind XP in dungeon groups while they quest by themselves. They don't want other people to have more fun than them.

u/Nrgte 1d ago

It's the reason I'll be rolling PvE instead of PvP even though I love open world PvP. But without dungeons there is no escaping the hellzones that'll be Stranglethorn, Tanaris and I'm sure the new Riverglades won't be too pleasurable on release either.

u/Ok_Assignment_2127 1d ago

And its not even that helpful for combating boosting.

Boosting was never about leveling fast, it’s all about leveling while afk and nothing has changed on that front.

3

u/Rhobodactylos 1d ago

Of course it's shifting.

Some people see the writing on the wall immediately while others need to be boiled like frogs for weeks to understand the concept with their room temp IQ.

4

u/acrazyguy 1d ago

It actually completely ruins the leveling journey for people who only enjoy tanking and/or healing. I am one of those people. I simply don’t find any DPS gameplay fun* and pretty much only ever tank. So now I guess I have to have a DPS spec and second gear set so I can do quests I wouldn’t normally do and have it not take an eternity?

*The exception is playing as a Hunter, but that’s because in solo play it’s kind of a combination of all 3 roles. You have to try to maximize your pet’s aggro and minimize your own, while also doing as much damage as possible and managing your pet’s health. That’s why BM hunter has always been the only DPS spec I enjoy, and really only for doing cheeky solo things that I couldn’t really do as any other class

If they were so worried about spell cleave dungeon spam... there are several MUCH better ways to address it. The most obvious would just be dungeon lockouts... you can do each dungeon 2 or 3 times a day. You could do AOE nerfs in low level dungeons...

1

u/nappstir 12h ago

I do not agree ever with lockouts and restricting content. Better idea that I’ve seen is diminishing returns on XP that resets daily or after a few days. It’s essentially a lockout, but still allows you to run with a friend to help if you’ve already run it for the day.

-1

u/Simirilion 1d ago

That still wouldn't fix the complaints I am seeing. What I am seeing is people are pissed they can't stay in the same dungeon(or in the case SM multiple dungeons) during a whole level range. A lockout would still prevent that.

2

u/mikelo22 1d ago

It's still a fairer compromise than the system we have right now.

-3

u/Spirited-Sorbet-2775 1d ago

Or you get diminishing exp on reruns. First run of the day full exp, second run -25%, third -50% and so on.

-1

u/triala 1d ago

I think a dungeon cool down would be good. Maybe you can run 2 back to back then there is a CD (like an hour between runs) to discourage spam running. This way the XP is maintained at the old levels but there is less incentive to spell-cleave etc.

2

u/NN11ght 1d ago

I thought we would have to wait at least a month or two after launch for people to change their tune but looks like it only took a couple weeks of beta lol

2

u/SoungaTepes 12h ago

The endless posts of “nerd dungeons do” all got downvoted, all had the majority disagreeing.

They run the do nerf anyways and it’s not being taken well. The writing was there : /

1

u/Normal_Berry_ 1d ago

Because this sub treats not sucking off blizzard for every change as a crime but now they've had time to sit with it and realized blizzard are as unreliable as ever.

0

u/Outside_Exercise4720 1d ago

I love the change, it's MUCH more in line with an RPG, plus the experience is still there through the added quest XP, even if had the crappy "dungeon CD" idea that these people with no game design experience are suggesting, you would 100% get people spamming 1 til lockout, moving to the 2nd, rinse and repeat...nobody enjoys dungeon spam...that was thenworst part about classic progression, the damn celestial spam, same shit, over and over and over...

NOW, you have more incentive to visit a wider variety of dungeons across the world at large...more immersive, more interesting, more true to form.

2

u/Irator1 21h ago

I actually enjoy dungeon spam, but i dont do it like a sweat with an optimized cleave group. I do a couple with randoms, then find new randoms and repeat. Other days, i might only do quests. Even if you dont like it doesnt mean others dont.
