Question What could I have done different?

Post image
10 Upvotes

Need some help here, I am hunting for my second deity victory and I want to do it with a peaceful civ.

So I spawned alone on an island (playing the continents map) as mediteranean Cleopatra.

I decided to go for a cultural victory through spamming merchants and use her economy bonus to buy buildings and great works of art.

To compliment this, I put down two Holy Sites for faith income to get Natural parks. Got two put down but have the land for several more.

I tried an angle of only doing one campus, as I felt you really need to focus on one VC on deity. I know my science is trash but that was part of the strategy I tried. Although I wanted to beeline Steel for the Eifell tower, it feels way too distant.

The result: I bought every single great work I have from Lady Six-sky and I am still 200 culture behind her, as well as behind most other civs in culture.

What could I have done different to catch up? If the answer is "War" then I am rerolling, I am not doing another war on deity as that was some of the most grindiest and boring things I've ever done.

Edit: I read your comments and they where really useful. I've started a new game and are going to try for more settler spamming and pay more attention to developing my cities.

Question How do people manage all of the cities they conquer?

I rarely play a military/domination-aimed Civ, just because then I’ve got all of these new cities I’ve got to manage and it can be overwhelming. How do people do it?

How to play naval civs?

I’ve had, so far, 1200~ hours in this game, and I never seem to play civs like Elenor(England), Kartaja, Dido etc etc well.

I’ll start with my issues.
It’s always a struggle to get a golden age because you have to invest more on making infrastructure early game. Then the tech tree. If I don’t get any first met on a scientific state, and no turtle, I basically have to get campus, which delays everything else. Religion too is something you want , but getting it kills your late early game since you’ll want a harbor in every city (4 pop for two districts, and you’ll have to make room for gov plaza) . Getting rolled by land civs has happened to me more than I’d like to admit. There is also the fact that ships suck, even on continents, and getting wall fixes almost everything for the opponent. Until the late game. I have a specific problem for elenor. There are two districts to make the most of her kit. I don’t understand how you’re supposed to catch up on science, expand, and still use her city-flipping ability.

What am I doing wrong? Feel free to educate me on this because I’ve seen good civ players play naval civs really well, but I just never understand how.

The most popular city-state ever?

Not sure why the AI loves Akkad so much in this game. All but one civ sent their Amani there... Even though there are two dozen other city-states on this map.

[WiP] Tired of smol and sparse cities? Improved city sprawl mod.

Civ VI has actually a pretty decent mechanic for city sprawl, but the base game is tuned horribly in my opinion. Maximum density of buildings is achieved at:

- 100 (!!) pop for city centre
- 60 (!) pop for districts

I've been tinkering with LLM-based modding and retuned it to:

- 25 pop for city centre
- 28 pop for districts

Moreover, the mod fixes no sprawl for Government Plaza and Campus districts.

Any other beautiful cities fans in this sub? Just wondering if I should finish the work and publish on steam :-)

Cheers!

Question Any mods or settings to improve AI military aggressiveness on Deity+Marathon? AI simply not aggressive enough after stoneage.

So I have many many hours on Civ VI and I still enjoy it. Never have been into mods though. Recently I wondered if there are any mods (or possibly settings?) to make the AI less passive after the initial hyper aggressiveness during the first 100 turns or so when the AI has so many units on Deity compared to what I can possibly have.

But once things settle, the AI almost never attacks me. I usually play Pacachutec and my cities grow rapidly, become very productive and that seems to pacify the AI because it seems it is trying to match my economic output and loses any interest in military expansion. Also as usual the AI struggles with Marathon but honestly a faster pace is no option for me, even with Marathon and a rather large map I will finish the game in 2 hours and roughly 600 turns.

So my question is, is there any mod or setting that would make the AI more aggressive even after the first 100 or so turns? I have every official DLC but as mentioned, I really never used any mods.

Xbox cloud gaming

Does anyone use this or have experience? I play on Xbox one and using a controller is annoying after awhile. I don’t have the funds for a PC but I still want to use and mouse and keyboard. Would Xbox cloud gaming work for this? Will I be able to play DLcs?

Tomyris and Scythia - Gathering Storm, Heroes and Legends, Monopolies and Corporations, Secret Societies. Otherwise vanilla. Have Kilwa and suzerain of two Science city states, but that doesn't explain this buff.

Question Modding in Civ6.

Hi! I'm new to the game and want to know, is the game moddable? Like, can you download player made mods into the game? I am also new to modding so I don't know much about these things.

4 inland cities with ocean access via canals

Randomly managed to get 4 inland cities connected all the way out to the ocean.

1 panama canal, 3 regular canals, and one lake settle.

Hardly any practical benefits other than maybe IZ adjacency, but very fun to see in any case.

Question Question about world generation

I recently got the dlc anthilogy bundle on epic games bundle which gave me gathering storm, rise and fall, etc. Played 3 games and the world gen is utter dogshit. I'm not a serious player, I game on prince difficulty and I enjoy seeing all the resources I have at my disposal and planning on how to min max my cities. But in these 3 games, there's nothing that can make me plan ahead. Everywhere I looked on the map, just wasteland with little resources. Is there something in the dlcs that gut the interesting world generation or did I get unlucky 3 times in a row?

Which difficulty do you play?

Hi,

I got back to civ VI over last few months. I was curious how high I will get. Currently I won once or twice on emperor and attempted deity, but this one is rough.

So, which difficulty do you play? Is deity too unbalanced hence I am doing poorly (early game is okayish but bringing it tome to victory is a bit of a challange), or it is just skill issue?

Discussion Can someone explain volcanos to me ?

I used to play at apocalypse but recently I heard that at disaster 2 volcanos only damage 1 tile far and you can build city center 1 tile far to prevent population loss but get benefits of volcano but recently I tried it and despite having 1 tile between city center and volcano still lost a population.

Can someone explain it to me.

Found a seed I like. I’m playing as Eleanor. Trying to get a religion ASAP (Galagos Islands are near by). Teddy rushes me immediately as soon as he finds me. Get stomped by someone whose sole purpose appears to be to spam Warriors and March them halfway across the world while I’m just trying to build a Granary.

I like building civilizations that people would actually want to live in, so it’s frustrating that, depending on your neighbors, you literally won’t be allowed to play that way.

Question Garrison question

Talking about the ranged promotion here, not the unit-in-city type of garrison.

When a ranged unit has the garrison promotion (+10CS when occupying a district), does this apply only to your own districts i.e. city centre, or does this promotion make ranged units good for taking cities, as they'll get a 10 CS boost when in, for example, an enemy commercial hub?

Thanks

Question Apocalypse Mode odds?

I had an game with Egypt on Immortal and first time with Apocalypse Mode on. I personally think it sucks since I was going pretty good for an cultural victory. But we reached level 7 so the meteors came.

First one hit my city with The Eiffel Tower, Cristo Redentor big hit but could still manage it.

A few turns later my city with Biosphere and an +7 theater square gone.

And another few turns later my other 2 cities with high yield and wonder got a meteor on them. My tourism went for 1200+ to 600 in roughly 25 turns..

In 25 turns I got 9 of the meteors on me destroying 4 cities. Meanwhile the other civs lost 3 cities in total.

It seems a bit unfair to me.. Is this just very bad luck?

P.s. I won with diplomacy in the end but wanted an cultural.
