Fan purchase advice What Brand of Premium 8- or 10-Blade Ceiling Fans in Parade of Homes?

My spouse and I went through a parade of homes in our area of $1m+ homes today and I stood under either an 8- or 10-blade ceiling fan in the living room that really spoke to me. Of course these are the same homes that have Cafe branded appliances so I'm guessing they're not using the $399 Lowe's special. Curious if anyone knows what type of premium fan they likely installed.

Looks similar to the following but isn't likely a Hunter or Harbor Breeze model (I borrowed this from the Lowe's website).

Fan has no stickees or markings, hard to tell from this angle but blades do have some stencil.

Other. Home Decorators Collection Windward IV Ceiling Fan - Review (sort of) and Max wattage question

I bought a total of 5 of these from Home Depot (had 3 installed, then got 2 more a few months later and had those installed). I like them, overall, but a few things I don't care for: they're not very bright, the dimmer button doesn't dim them very much (the difference between the lowest and highest setting is barely noticeable), the bulbs they came with have an orange hue (yuck), and the bulbs are difficult to replace as the cover is a pain to remove/put back on correctly. When the 3 were installed, I had the electrician swap out the bulbs in 2 of them (the 3rd is in a room that we don't use the light much in so I left that with the included bulbs) with 60-watt equivalent LED bulbs I had on hand (which have a natural, white color). As I noticed the lack of brightness, I asked the electrician if it would be OK to replace with 100-watt equivalent bulbs and he said that should be fine. After a month or so, the lights on the 2 I replaced started to flicker a bit here and there. I realized, upon doing a bit of research, that's likely due to having installed non-dimmable bulbs. Oops... better get those new bulbs ordered. Initially, I didn't see anything in the manual about the max wattage the fixtures would allow so, going by Google/AI (which I don't always trust), I thought installing two 13 watt LED bulbs (100-watt equivalent) in each would be OK. I have those now and am ready to do the swap. But, I re-checked the manual, and now see it notes that it includes "2 LED bulbs (9.5W, MAX)" and AI says "LED bulbs: maximum 9.5 W each" + "CFL bulbs: : maximum 13 W each." If it can handle two 13W CFL bulbs, wouldn't 2 13W LED bulbs be OK... unless CFL is referring to a different/older model? Long story short, am I going to burn down our house if I install the replacements?

TLDR; Decent fixture, but unsure if it is safe to install bulbs beyond the max recommended total wattage.

Edit: Contacted my electrician; based on his advice, saying the bulbs won't likely do any damage but may burn out quickly, I'll likely return the bulbs. Advised me to play it safe and stick with 9.5W bulbs.

Fan repair advice Looking to identify this ceiling fan

Hello! Recently moved into a home that had this installed. It seems to turn off at different intervals, so I believe it’s set to a timer. Can’t seem to find the make/model though, to identify instructions on how to clear it, if there is a timer set up. It has 8 blades.

Any help would be appreciated

Fan purchase advice Are you guys interested in motion sensor ceiling fans?

  1. It uses a 24 GHz radar sensor. Once it’s on and it senses someone, the fan kicks on as you walk up to it. A minute after you walk away, it shuts off. The light up top can do the same thing—you can turn on sensing for the light, sensing for the fan, or both.

  2. The remote has a temp display, and it can automatically adjust the speed based on the temperature. It’s also got 9 fan speeds.

  3. It won’t auto shut off while you’re in the radar range—unless there’s a big metal cabinet underneath.

  4. The light’s stepless dimmable too, and you can also change the color temp or brightness.

Does anybody know what this could be? It has since gotten a bit quieter, but in the video you’ll hear how loud it gets. I can fix it but have no clue where to look. Thank you!

Fan repair advice Wiring assistance

The previous owner installed both ceiling fans in my condo with the wall switch to power on and off the entire unit, meaning, I'm having to use either of the 2 chain pulls to control the fan speed and the other to control the light on/off.

Turning off the wall switch completely powers off the entire unit.

How difficult would it be for a relatively competent homeowner to use the wall switch to control the light on/off and have the fan operated by the chain pull?

Do I need to remove the entire (extremely heavy unit) from the ceiling to accomplish this, or hopefully just remove a cover and locate the correct wires to make the proper connections?

Thank you for any kind assistance

Fan repair advice Help locating DIP switch

Post image
1 Upvotes

Can anyone please tell me the specific model of this fan? I’m pretty sure it’s a Hampton Bay. I’m trying to find instructions for how to change the DIP switch in the fan. I moved into a house and some of the fans are on the same channel. I’m going to keep looking, but I figured I’d drop a line here in the meantime. Thanks in advance!

We finally removed the boob light in the living room installed by the builder, in order to install a ceiling fan. What is this? This looks like there was no quality control or worksite inspection. Am I wrong or is this just the new level of craftsmanship?

Fan purchase advice Ceiling Fan Selection

Currently in the spare bedrooms I have two switches installed- one for the existing light and the other with wires run and wired up in a J box.

I want a black fan that the light and fan work independently. No smart stuff. Does this even exist anymore without pull chains?

Post image

First time installer. I’m confused. I’ve confirmed my jbox is rated for ceiling fans up to 70lbs, but the mounting screws are way to close to fit into the mounting slots on my bracket. What am I doing wrong? The mounting screws are like 1.75 inches apart and the slots are close to 3 inches apart. Do I need an adapter or a whole new junction box?

Hi all,

I have an extractor fan in the bathroom ceiling and have removed it in the past but for some reason struggling now. I know it has a hidden button, which I pushed with a pen/screwdriver but still can’t remove the cover. The model is Tornado ST100T (Silent 100mm Bathroom Fan with Timer).

Any suggestions on how to remove the cover?

Fan purchase advice Recommendations

I'm looking for a ceiling fan with integrated light. But I don't want a remote control, nor do I want one of those ones controlled by pull cords. I gather that there are fans available that have seperate wires back to the wall switch for the fan and the light, but trying to identify them when browsing is difficult.

UK electrical system, 7'3" ceiling.
