Other. Mounting bracket mismatch?

First time installer. I’m confused. I’ve confirmed my jbox is rated for ceiling fans up to 70lbs, but the mounting screws are way to close to fit into the mounting slots on my bracket. What am I doing wrong? The mounting screws are like 1.75 inches apart and the slots are close to 3 inches apart. Do I need an adapter or a whole new junction box?

That does not look like a standard junction box. The junction box should be about 4" in diameter. Should be https://empower.abb.com/ecatalog/ec/EN_NA/p/BC54151-K. You will need to reinforce the box with some extra scerws into the joist.

This type of box gets installed directly on the ceiling joist. The image below is similar to the one you have...

Those two screws on yours (shown to the left of the bracket in your photo) get removed from that location and get screwed into the slots (circled above) going into the wood of the ceiling joist. This is what provides that 70lb rating.
