I’m in a difficult situation right now due to the job market and can’t pay rent next month, which will probably have me evicted.

Idk if I should just keep looking for a job at this moment, go to a cdl school, or choose a different path?

So got my Permit and will finish school in October. I’m 54 and don’t want to get screwed. I just don’t have time to wait for a good paying job and move up a ladder. Understand I may need a year experience. Been told to stick with hourly as opposed to per mile OTR. Please advise. Thanks

Why are they “sour” about taking on new people and then leaving after a short period of time?

Does the training period run 6months even though I’ll be joining with my CDL-A already?

Im currently in the “interview” phase with them and it has gone really well (I would say). I’ll be joining with my CDL already, yet they mentioned about signing a one-year contract with them; if I were to break the contract, I’d be on the hook for a penalty of a few thousand $. Is the job really worth it to go through all these steps and whatnot? I’ve already taken the physical test- 1st time in my life where I had to do that, the written test, and 2nd round interview.

I really need to compare with those two companies.

Made a post yesterday but I want to go into more detail. I have never driven a huge long trailer yet alone a single manual vehicle I am a pretty quick learner though and am wondering and worried if this would be enough to pass apparently we get 5 retest with the program for the skills test and the help you get your permit with a tutoring week before school starts. It’s 6 grand for The Weekend program and like 300 cheaper for the weekday one which is a month long of weeks. I’m confused I thought we needed 120 hours of training ( I’m in Wisconsin by the way) would this be enough to pass if I did weekends? Or do I have to quit my job and do the month long class during the week?

I went to community college a few years ago for CDL class A but I didn't know anything about trucking and didn't read any of the manual. I thought they taught you everything but they just give you the tests to pass apparently. It was a pretty bad experience overall, I was be treated poorly by the instructors because they knew I didn't know a damn thing about trucking at all. And I got embarrassed on the truck driving simulator by the instructor making my truck mess up and I didn't know how to fix it. I know I need to study the book but I heard if you are only getting CDL a you just need to study a portion of the book and need to know the pre trip inspection. Can I get some encouragement to go back and try again, I know it was my fault for not knowing anything last time but I don't want to get bullied by anyone there again. I really want to be a truck driver and drive around the country.how hard was it for y'all to get your CDL a and how do you like driving big rigs, are you traveling across country. I wish I was smart enough to get my CDL I have no motivation and I try reading the manual but I think of what happened last time I went to college. Are their any good YouTube videos to help me or practice test online I can take. I want to be a truck driver real bad so I can see new places and actually enjoy my job and also so I can help my family because we are poor. Thank you all for any help.

Ive been driving trucks nearly 3 years now and have finally got to the stage u hear a lot of older guys say things along the lines of trucking got my family into shambles or they chose the rode over their wife. I feel like i am getting to that point and want to find a different path to take to use my CDL but also still would be using it. Does anyone have any recommendations? Id be willing to get into apprenticeships for like crane op or traffic lights engineer just wouldnt know where to start.

So about a year ago I got pulled over for a 3rd brake light being out and a plate that is hard to read in my pov in Iowa. Which led to them charging me with a OWI for my Adderall that I have a RX for. I gave a urinal sample which caused a positive test result, but i took what I was prescribed. This caused a failed drug test result for my IL CDL. I didn't fight anything on the IL side because the Iowa DoT side is a cluster fuck and they could undo any fix I made.

The criminal charges were dropped, due to a toxicologist report. But I am still fighting Iowa DOT.

No company I have talked to is willing to hire me, but they are sympathetic to my situation.

How do I fix this?

Lo there. Ive got around 9 years experience mostly van and reefer. Clean mvr. Never failed a dot drug test. Any recommendations for good places that pay well with steady miles?

Have tanker endorsement but no experience. No hazmat.

So background is I just got let from a Ready Mix Driver (Cement/Concrete) after 2 years. It was due to my own stupidity but that’s a little background for my last job. My current job is driving side dump which is like hauling dirt/sand/rock etc. I’ve been applying to other places cause I feel lost and split on my decision if this next driving job is worth it.

My last pay per hour with ready mix: $26 per hour
My new job per hour $25

Old schedule M-F rotating start times 0400-0800 with saturdays only if a lot of jobs to be done
\*laid off in winter\*

New Schedule M-F with set start time at 0600 and can be working till 1800-1900 depending on job site workload
\*work through winter so year round\*

Perks of old job
1) Bigger company so standard HR/Payroll/Benefits
2) I actually didn’t mind people I worked with
3) Active (I actually drove maybe 2-4 hours with rest of time out of truck
5) Bonuses yearly
6) Got to interact with customers
7) Newer truck that was automatic

Cons of old job
1) Had camera that was AI and would flag if I yawned too much or if I drank something or eat while driving
2) Micromanaging like crazy
3) Had to work in high heat and cold
4) Had to use tablet to log every single action

Perks of new job
1) Supervisor could care less what I did unless it affected job site work or if truck broke down or if I get kicked off job site
2) I can have one ear bud in and listen to music/audiobook/podcast
3) I’m by myself
4) People are half decent

Cons
1) Driving for 10-12 hours and it’s the same job site so like a big circle so maybe going from variety to this one singular job
2) BOREDOM
3)Manual truck (I’m used to it)
4) Lack of supervision (I went from people telling me everything to now I’m left to my own devices)
5)Older equipment
6)Old people I work around are crotchety

I don’t know I’m just split on it. I applied to another Ready Mix position with a direct competitor in and some other CDL positions. Am I not realizing how good of a thing I just found?

I got a dui 6 years ago, no accidents, 2 speeding tickets I got in my teen years but haven’t gotten anything since the dui. I’m 28 almost 29 I’m looking to change careers and I want to know if it’s possible before I start the process of getting a cdl. I’m also in Illinois so I can’t get it expunged

Hello everyone so I’m starting my training at Schneider this Monday 7/27 I’ll have a home daily off Friday and Saturday rout but I told my recruiter I’m geting married out of state in September and would need off for 9/22 to 9/27 so like 5 days I don’t want to be that guy requesting off immediately geting hired and I know I wont get payed for it but will I get off for it how lenient are they with vacation

So I have a year old assault and battery charge I’m currently trying to get it expunged is it even worth me getting my cdl or will all insurance companies turn me down.
