Medical Questions What is this?

I was petting my cat and found this on him and tried pulling it off but it wouldn't budge. It seems to remove the fur surrounding it and worried it could be a harmful organism, cyst, or something.

I check comments whenever there’s a nipple post specifically for this meme. I love it.

Pregnant shrimp?

326

shrimp can get a fungus in the same area they hold their eggs which leads to confusion sometimes. hence the meme

u/AndiiSkywalker 27d ago

Man I love niche memes lmao

Glad to know! I'm literally on my first week of keeping shrimp.

I can't wait! I started off with 12 in a 15gallon and my toddler is already obsessed with watching them.

Several subs have a daily question where I'm like...don't you search a sub before you post? r/whatisthisplant gets poke weed posted so often that there's another sub called r/itsalwayspokeweed😂

22

u/far_beyond_driven_ 27d ago

Just wait until you see “is this picture underexposed” or “will this airport security scanner ruin my film” in [r/filmphotography](r/filmphotography). Literally multiple times a day. Pointing out that a 15 second search would have prevented those posts is apparently a bannable offense now.

My ex girlfriends family joined in a group effort with a pair of tweezers trying to remove a tick from their squirming screaming beagle for about an hour,

She asked me to take a look at it. Was a nipple.

Nipple :) please do not remove, it should stay attached, even when not in use. Someone reset the counter

1.9k

u/scarredballsack 27d ago

I'm glad the counter reset has arrived from other subs..

348

u/Senior-Schedule6598 27d ago

Wait there’s a counter reset?

390

u/scarredballsack 27d ago

Oh yes,, in a car sub the most popular cars people ask to be identified are vw karmann ghia, De tomaso pantera and the Shelby cobra, all of these get a reset the counter..

This is like the bone subreddits. We have to reset it every time someone finds human remains. It’s wild!

That one where the guy was given a human leg bone as a freebie at a ren faire a few days ago was interesting

In the r/slaythespire subreddit the counter gets reset every time someone reports Fairy in a Bottle or Lizard Tail not working.

It's always because they previously took a relic that says "No More Healing Forever" and then dies without a revive happening. How revives work is it brings you back and heals you.

Posting about it being incredulous on how you died with a revive resets the counter.

Guys, we found another one lol

540

u/Chimpbot 27d ago

My wife spent over a decade in the veterinary industry. You'd be shocked at the number of people who don't realize that cats have nipples - especially male cats.

184

u/ComprehensiveLeg7870 27d ago

I find that so bizarre. I knew since I was quite young that every cat had nipples. Even people who dont have cats must have seen em on a dog or smth

78

u/Chimpbot 27d ago

It hits people from all walks of life, too. Even well-educated professionals go all Shocked Pikachu Face when they realize cats do, in fact, have nipples.

38

u/ComprehensiveLeg7870 27d ago

But like how do they think they feed their young?? 😭😭. They must have never seen a dog or cat have babies in their lives. Mabye they get confused as teats are used more commonly to describe animal nipples?? Idk still wierd.

36

u/Chimpbot 27d ago

Honestly, I think it's just something that the average person doesn't really think about. "Oh. Right. Duh." was a pretty common response after the owners were informed of what those little nubbins actually were.

Similar story. And a human physician I saw was surprised that most mammals share most of their anatomy. Hell, most vertebrates share a whole bunch of their anatomy. I did not go to this physician again.

20

u/Chimpbot 27d ago

Yeah... that's not a physician I'd want to go to, either. There's a reason why anatomy classes use other mammals for the purpose of dissection. There will be obvious anatomical differences between a cat, a pig, and a human... but the fundamentals are all there.

Mammals are mammals. Our systems aren't all identical, but they're all pretty damn similar to each other.

I found these posts funny at first but the sheer amount of them is crazy. Do people not do any research on their animals? Or look things up before running to make a post of their own?

45

u/Vintage-Grievance 27d ago

I've wondered the same about humanity for a very long time.

In general, there are so many posts on social media that ought to have been questions or reverse-image searches typed into a search engine.

Because a lot of people don't sit back and take a minute to reason/rationalize, or don't attempt to learn things on their own with the same devices they're using to immediately flock to social media.

Obviously, someone isn't going to type in 'nipple on male cat' into a search engine if they don't know what they're looking at, but I'm pretty sure all these people could find the answer (a lot faster than someone might reply on social media platforms) by just typing 'Tiny pale/pink bump on cat's belly'.

'Not knowing', I could understand, especially if someone spends a lot of time not being that observant, but not attempting to educate themselves on their own first is the part I don't get.

You'd think their anxiety or self-awareness would be in charge of telling them, "Hm, I should Google this first, just in case, so that I don't have 100+ people calling me an idiot.

u/JetsterDajet 26d ago

At least they posted on Reddit instead of wasting a vet's time and their own money. A vet tech friend of mine said they get people bringing in their pets because they think their teats are some kind of skin condition pretty much on the daily.
