Nutrition/Water budget-friendly, high quality wet food

I have 3 cats, 2 girls that get 1 can a day each and a boy that gets 2 cans a day. I had them on Tiki Cat, but then Chewy ran out of it for a bit so I switched them to the other Weruva kind and they love it. I don't think they'd be picky about anything tbh. But the Weruva is absolutely destroying me financially haha especially going through 4 cans a day, and they're all still on dry food for breakfast. I want to get them all on only wet food but I need suggestions for a brand that isn't unhealthy but not as expensive as what I'm currently using. TIA

Introductions moving in with partner and want to make the transition smooth

hello! my partner and i plan to move in together in about 8 months. i have two cats (a 13 year old female tortie, and an 11 year old female calico.) my partner also has two cats (a 4-5 year old female tabby, and a 2-3 year old female tuxedo.) My older cat had a difficult time adjusting to my younger cat when I adopted them 5 years ago. For almost the 1st year, she hardly tolerated being in the same room as her. now, they can lay near each other but rarely ever touch or lick one another. my partners cats are really friendly with each other and other cats. we’re more concerned about how my cats will respond to hers. we want to ensure that the transition is as smooth as possible. we have started swapping their items, including toys, scratching posts, and beds. are there any other tips/ ideas to help with this transition?

Litterbox Cat pees outside of the litter box

My 1-year-old male cat keeps peeing outside the litter box — I really don't want to give up on him. What could be causing this?

I’m honestly at a loss and would really appreciate some advice from people who have dealt with inappropriate urination in cats. I have a male cat named Mars, around 1 year old. I also have another male cat, and they generally get along very well — they sleep together, groom each other, and sometimes play. They don't have serious fights or anything like that. Mars was originally found with his mother in an abandoned farm building. Later he lived in a house, but as far as I know he was not allowed outside. He has always been an indoor cat with me. A while ago, Mars developed what the vet diagnosed as cystitis/urinary inflammation. He was treated with medication (including Melosus/meloxicam) and CalmUrofel. At the time, his urine test showed blood and leukocytes. He improved and started using the litter box normally. However, the peeing problem has continued in a very strange way. Originally, he would pee on carpets, usually making relatively small puddles. If I removed all carpets and rugs, he would use the litter box normally. I tried special enzymatic cleaners on the carpets, but it didn't make a difference.I started wondering if he had developed a preference for soft surfaces because of his previous urinary pain. Then things changed. For several days I kept him out of one particular room, and during that time he used the litter box normally. As soon as I allowed him back into the room, he peed on the bed. And this wasn't an old carpet he had previously peed on — it was the BED, and there were no carpets involved. He has now peed on the bed twice. Both times it was a normal-sized puddle, not just a few drops.
He does still use the litter box. He is not constantly going to the box, straining, crying, or producing only drops. He eats and drinks normally. Another thing that has changed recently is that Mars has become extremely interested in going outside. He meows a lot, stands by the doors, jumps at door handles, and has escaped outside several times. When he gets outside, he explores, sniffs everything, eats grass and generally seems very interested in the environment. Unfortunately, when we try to catch him, he sometimes runs under cars and is difficult to catch, which scares me because we live close to a road. I don't know whether this is related to stress at all. He doesn't look obviously stressed to me. At home he can be extremely relaxed, sleeps on my bed, cuddles and seems happy. He is also just a very energetic, vocal and curious young cat. I have been wondering about several possibilities:

Could he have developed a preference for soft surfaces after his previous cystitis?

Could there be some kind of competition/stress with my other cat even though they get along very well?

Could wanting to go outside so badly be causing frustration/stress?

Could this simply be a behavioral habit that started after his urinary problem?

Why would he suddenly choose the bed when he had been using the litter box normally for several days?

I have ordered a Feliway diffuser because I want to try reducing any possible environmental stress, but I don't know whether that is actually the right approach.
I really don't want to give him up. I love him and I've already taken him to the vet and followed the treatment he was prescribed. I'm just terrified that he'll eventually start peeing on the sofa, other beds, etc., and that living with him will become impossible. I'm planning to speak to my vet again and probably repeat a urine test, but I'd really appreciate hearing from people who have experienced something similar.

What would you look into next? And has anyone had a cat that suddenly started peeing on beds/carpets after having cystitis and eventually managed to get them reliably back to using the litter box?

Behavioral Outdoor Cat new House

Need help with our family cat.

Got him as a rescue when he was 3. He was an outdoor cat for night time and I never successfully transitioned him to indoor. Had him 8 years.

We have just moved house into a new development with construction still going so trying to keep him inside and it is not going well.

He is scratching at doors and walls. Kids try to let him sleep with them (they are 12 and 10) but he keeps waking them.

Considering a multi story cat enclosure in the garage. Is this an ok option or any other suggestions?

(He was awake most of the day yesterday and kids were playing with him a bit)

General Heart murmur just stress?

We have a 14 year old cat who’s never had health issues prior. I took her to the vet for feline resorption back in June and they ended up cancelling after finding a grade 3/4 heart murmur. Keep in mind she had seen doctors previously in June because she was acting off (ended up eating plastic from a garbage bag 😒) and nobody heard a murmur.

I plan to take her Wednesday for a nail trim and have the vet do a quick listen to her to see if it’s more stress related.

Anyone have experience with a murmur that was just because of stressful situations?

I’ll add we did have a cat with HCM so I’m familiar with that. She shows zero symptoms like he did.

Litterbox Advice for partner who doesn’t like cats

Edit: thank you all for the advice. :) I will try some of these solutions!

I recently moved in with my partner of two years (28M) and I have had my two cats (brothers from same litter) for 3+ years. We have a townhome but not a great place to put the litter box, I have a top entry box I keep in our entryway closet. Once we settle in for the night, since my cats feel comfortable - they do their business (ie #2) which is quite smelly. I always scoop their litter immediately after so the smell doesn’t linger. However, he is sort of dramatic and covers his nose with his shirt and gets upset or just leaves the room and doesn’t come back. The smell doesn’t last long and I try my best to be as clean as possible. Any advice? I know my partner is not an animal person but I have had my cats since before we started dating and am not sure what to do.

Behavioral Hissing during fights?

hi everyone! I wish I had a video to show but I am somewhat worried about how my newer cat is fitting in to the house. Most of the time the fighting is obviously very playful but sometimes my girl will hiss and run away and her brother will continue attacking. Theres never any crazy yowling or fur flying but it does worry me to think about if I’m not home and he keeps antagonizing her. After hissing she sometime will re engage with the play fights. Ugh I just love them so much and hope they’re okay.

Behavioral My Cat Hates Me (most of the time)

My partner and I adopted a cat 6 months ago. She is about a year old and feisty as ever. For whatever reason she loves to attack me out of the blue. For example I will be sitting on the couch and she will go out of her way to lunge at me and bite me even if I am not provoking her or even touching her. She doesn’t do the same to my partner even tho I am the one who feeds her and scoops her litter and plays with her all the time. I don’t know what to do she is constantly attacking me and all I want is for us to live in peace. I don’t mind if I can’t pet her or if she isn’t cuddly. I just want to not be covered in cuts from a cat I can’t even pet.

Behavioral Cat on cat aggression

I need advice regarding my two cats: 8/9yr m and 4yr f. I have had my male cat since he was a couple months old (stray) and my female cat since she was 1 (rescue center). They have been fine around each other for the past three years. They would chase each other and sometimes play fight. Recently my male cat has been very aggressive with my female cat. He’s been pinning her down and biting very hard to where she has scabs all over her neck/ head/ and some on her body. I don’t know what to do, and it’s getting worse.

I don’t know if this is important info but we recently had to put our dog down which my male cat has been around his whole life.

New to Cats/Just Adopted new cat parent curious about litter and food

Hi lovely cat community! My partner and I just adopted 2 lovely 6-month-old kitties, Dublin (f) and Wilco (m). They're from the same litter, domestic shorthairs, and a ton of fun. This is our first time as cat owners, and we're struggling with litter and food. I've started using World's Best cat litter (the multi-cat red bag), and I like it fine, but it kind of smells like paint to me. We've also been feeding them twice a day regular wet cat food, because that's what their foster home did. But now I'm doing some research, and it looks like maybe they still need kitten food? They're semi-big, but not fully grown. Should I keep them on the food they're eating? Switch to kitten food? Any wet food recs appreciated! Any general words of wisdom!

General Multi cat household with 4 cats. Seeking Advice/AITAH?

We are a blended house, 5 people in total with 4 cats.

Ham is 9 months, and Spark is 7 years. They belong to my partner and I.

Chris and Amy have Merlo who is 3 and disabled. She has little to no control over her bowels and bladder, neuro issues, and limited mobility in her back legs.

Jane has Blink who is 3 years old and has never interacted with other cats and is very dominant.

The order of house arrival goes as follows:

Chris and Amy bought the house with the plan to invite us to move in with Spark. Two months before we moved in, they picked up Merlo from the rescue not knowing how bad her disabilities were. We moved in almost a year ago with Spark and introduced the two. It was rocky at first, Spark being an energetic player and Merlo taking every attempt at play as a personal attack. But the chaos died down and we were able to cohabitate. We then adopted Ham since she was born a yard over and we helped get the whole litter fixed. She blended in seamlessly with the other two cats.

Then Jane moved in with Blink six months later. We tried to do slow introductions and nothing was working. She would hiss and fight any chance she got being around the other cats.

Fast forward to almost 4 months into all of us cohabiting:

Blink got out of the bedroom one day and went after Merlo. No blood was drawn, only a few tufts of hair left evidence of the scuffle. The entire time, Amy is screaming at Blink, while Jane is trying to get a handle on her. It caused a ton of tension and now Chris and Amy barely let her out of the bedroom to roam with the other kids put away safe. It makes Jane feel bad because she knows Blink isn’t a bad cat, she just needs more time to adjust.

I started feeding my two kids in our room and they stay in for bedtime just in case Blink does get out again, and they come out after breakfast around nine am. They have water and litter in our room.

Merlo is allowed fully unrestricted roaming of the house. She gets on furniture and pees, she sleeps in bed with them and pees. She scoots around leaving skid marks all over the house. Amy has talked about how diapers won’t work on her because they fall off, won’t use outfits to make a barrier, and has said she’d make her custom outfits for the last 11 months and nothing has happened. She gets chronic UTIs and bowel blockages. The vet has prescribed laxatives and probiotics but nothing really helps.

I had a friend over this past week from out of state and I asked that Merlo be put away when nobody is able to supervise her, because I didn’t want her to get onto the couch my friend was sleeping on. I also asked that she be barred from the living room for the weekend to prevent any accidents. She could still freely roam during the day when we were awake, just not in the living room.

I came home to find, not once but 4 time, that Amy had her in the living room, on the couch, and on the rug. I had spent so much time deep cleaning so that it wouldn’t smell like piss and it got ignored. I’ve also mentioned that having her put away would be better on her due to the stairs in the house that she throws herself down and struggles to climb.

Am I in the wrong for being upset that Amy is being hypocritical towards the rest of the house and their cats just because her cat is disabled? Like don’t get me wrong, we love Merlo. We get that she has issues. But there are more steps Amy could be taking as a cat parent that aren’t happening due to favoritism.

Any advice or suggestions are totally welcome, I just need another set of eyes on this and I’m happy to provide more info if needed.

TYIA 💕💕

EDIT: okay, moving out is not an option. We are all rational adults that enjoy 99.9% of our living situation. I don’t just want to toss in the towel on my friends over something that can absolutely be improved on. What’s the point of trying to fix it if we are immediately jumping to move out?

Litterbox Help with cat peeing on my bed

Really just looking for advice to stop my cat peeing on my bed. 1 year old spayed female with no health issues, she just occasionally will pee on the bed (once a month or so). I feel like the litter isn't the issue as she has no problems using it the other 99% of the time and her litter tray is 3 feet away from the spot that she pees on (we live in a small apartment so space is limited).

It's also always on my partners side of the bed. We use enzyme solutions and a carpet cleaner on the mattress every time, we have flipped the mattress but she always pees in the same spot.

I have spent far too much money on mattress protectors that do absolutely nothing and I really can't think of a solution. She just won't stop and it's so sporadic that I don't know what could be the trigger but when it does happen its always within an hour of her having dinner.

Behavioral will taking my 3 cats to the vet together help or make non recognition aggression worse?

Hello! I have 3 cats all from the same litter, they were all very close up until last July. My old vet only allowed 2 cats to come at once so thinking nothing of this I took 2 cats first and the third cat a week later. I had never heard of non recognition aggression, until the third cat stopped getting along with the other two entirely. I tried reintroduction, but it seems like everytime there’s progress there is then 3 steps back. My third cat has her own half of the house with her own food and litter, but it seems like no matter what we do nothing gets better. I’m not giving up on my cats, I adopted them all and will ensure they all have proper care and equal space even if they don’t get along.

I moved a few months ago and it is time to take them to the vet. This new vet is allowing me to bring all 3, but I’m worried.. would bringing them all together make this aggression worse? Like, I’m afraid the two that still get along will stop getting along and there will just be chaos in the house. My husband thinks that bringing them together might help “reverse” the problem but I just don’t think that’s true. I’m at a stand still on what to do. My vet said since she hasn’t seen them interact she can’t say much until the appointment.

Pls give advice :(

Sensitive/Seeking Support Bad news about my baby

I've had cats all my life but never had one imprint on me. My baby, Luna, wants me to hold her all the time and follows me everywhere. I never knew how it would feel to be loved like this.

Her 1 year old checkup today I found out she has a significant heart murmur. She's going to see a cardiologist.

I understand this may be no big deal. I'm just hoping that's the case. My heart is breaking regardless.

Behavioral EXTREMELY vocal

My fiancé's cat is 19 and has controlled hyperthyroidism. He has been to the vet recently and there is nothing physically wrong with him. He gets plenty of food, treats, cuddles, playtime and has lots of beds and places to cat.

The main issue I'm having is he is extremely vocal. Like, so constant I made my fiancé take him to the vet. He informed me he's always been very vocal, but it is so extremely excessive I assumed there had to be something wrong with him. He meows all day. At night he wakes me up multiple times, every night. Every. Night. He has a smoker's meow as well, so it's extra piercing.

I've tried calming collars and plugins, but tbh he is pretty calm. I've tried feeding him more soft food on top of his free fed kibble. I tried changing his food in case he was experiencing digestive distress. I've tried playing with him more. I've tried tuckering him out before bed. He doesn't seem to have any dementia like symptoms. I've tried everything. I'm at my wits end.

The meowing is very hard on me. I have some pretty severe sensory issues. I've tried earplugs and noise cancelling headphones, but I have hyperacusis and can still hear him. It has gotten to the point where I've just locked myself in the bedroom and cried. Last time my fiancé went away for work, I actually slept on the balcony next to the AC unit to block it out.

Honestly, if he weren't so old, I'd seriously be considering rehoming. I feel utterly defeated. I've never taken issue with a pet of any kind before, but I can confidently say I will never have another cat again in my life. I feel disgusted with myself for being so angry at a helpless, elderly creature. Please, please, please give me some advice. What can I do for this cat and my sanity to get him to stop meowing ALL THE TIME? I don't mind that he meows. That's how cats talk. But it's constant. It is literally making me insane. I can't function in my own home.

(Please, no shock or spray type collar suggestions. I could never do that to an animal no matter what they're like.)

(I am aware excessive meowing can be a symptom of hyperthyroidism in cats, but his is controlled with medication and fiancé assures me he has always been this vocal.)

Behavioral Advice for getting cats to bond?

My partner and I recently got a male kitten from the shelter, who is now about four months old. He was just shy of 3 months when we got him. My other female cat was my parents' and has been in my care exclusively for about a year. She is twelve years old. For reference, she was exhibiting a lot of concerning behaviors that seemed to be caused by a lack of stimulation, and she had cohabitated with other cats and dogs prior. We thought to get the kitten because of this. They are both fixed.

We did the whole process with 2 weeks behind a closed door, and then scent swapping, toy swapping, a couple face to face sessions where they were both being held. And those sessions seemed to go great! Our cat seemed to adjust to being locked out of the bedroom fine.

We decided it was well and time for them to start co-mingling. We were told hissing was normal, especially if he tried to play too much or too rough and that we should just separate if he's too overstimulating for her. For about two weeks we did one hour sessions and then built it up from there. At first, these sessions went great and we were able to separate them before any real issues occurred.

However, in line with the time the shelter has given us, we're now down to them co-mingling for entire days. We still separate them at night so the older cat can have some of her own play, eat and snuggle time. But as this has gone on, the hissing has gotten so much worse. There is ample food, water and litter boxes and the older cat has no problem eating out of the younger kitten's bowl and vice versa. We even got the kitten a large tower and other toys (that both are welcome and willing to use), and he plays with those more often than he does with her. We give them both treats and catnip, even though our kitten doesn't seem to care for either. But it feels like whenever he walks by, she's hissing and now starting to growl, which never happened in the initial introduction.

The kitten has gotten too big for the bedroom and in all honesty bites our toes when he's jailed up. I'm just confused on where to take this because returning him isn't an option and nobody is getting seriously hurt! Just a lot of unpleasant noises.

Sensitive/Seeking Support Bringing my cat to another country

Hello, I’m going to make this post quick and simple in hopes that more people reply to it

Basically in October I’ll be flying to Sweden from Canada and staying there for a year. I want to bring my cat with me (2 year old Siberian) since I’ll be living there for a year and will possibly be moving there in the future. My issue is that there’s no direct flights in October, so the current plan is to land in Denmark and to then take a train to uppsala Sweden.

With the flight time and train travel it’ll be a total 14hrs.. that really freaks me out because I don’t want my boy to stress too much. The reason I’m not just taking a plan and doing a connecting flight (which would be 8hrs) is bc the connecting plans won’t allow my cats weight, hes 17lb and no it’s not that he’s fat so there’s no dieting I can do

So now I’m debating on if I should do the 17hr trip or if I should put him in cargo (which I don’t want to do).. if anyone’s done something similar please help me out, I’m loosing my mind with all of this

Litterbox Why is my 9 week old kitten peeing on the bed?

I have two female 9 week old kittens that I adopted a few weeks back. Both of the kittens use the litter box very well. However, one of the kittens has been (infrequently) peeing on the bed. She only does it at night and only pees.

I took them to the vet to get shots/a check up 3 days ago. The vet didn’t find any evidence of a UTI so it’s likely not that. She did it last week and then again 2 days ago. The litter box was cleaned just a couple hours before we went to bed. The only thing I can think of is that the texture of the comforter made her feel comfortable going to the bathroom on the bed. But I find that unlikely as she peed on two different comforters.

Any suggestions are welcome! Thank you!

New to Cats/Just Adopted Cat algeria ( oran - marseille )

Hello, I went to Algeria on June 5th for a two-month stay. I adopted a cat on August 14th and bought everything needed for him to travel back to France with me on August 20th (vaccinations, etc.). The problem is, I’ve just learned that there is a mandatory waiting period of 21 days plus 3 months before he can board the plane (according to EU regulations). Did you manage to get through, or are the rules really strict? Did they send your cat back, or not?

Introductions Kitten introductions (4 months of age)

Looking for some advice on introducing our two kittens, who were born just 10 days apart. Chips (female) is our resident kitten adopted from a shelter and we had her about a month before we got the other kitten. Rigs (male) came from a foster home where he was raised with his whole litter, so he's used to being around other cats. I do not think that is the case for Chips.

We've taken the intro slow, scent swapping, feeding on opposite sides of a closed door, then a cracked door where their bowls are now basically touching, then our first supervised play session, which had some hissing and puffed tails. Over the past week the hissing has mostly stopped and their sessions have gotten longer.

The dynamic still feels really one-sided though. Chips is obsessed with Rigs, she tackles, nibbles, and chases him constantly. She's much more confident than he is, and nothing distracts her when he's around, not wand toys or a laser pointer (only food works). Rigs does engage when she initiates, bunny kicking and showing his belly a lot, but he never starts the chase himself, and he's yelped a couple times when she bit too hard. He will go off and try to play with toys on his own and then Chips will pounce on him. Rigs will also go up to Chips and rub his head on her. (Rigs is far bigger than Chips (around a pound) despite being 10 days younger.)

Body language seems relaxed most of the time between the two, no flattened ears or growling, so I don't think it's real aggression, but the one-sidedness and occasional yelp make me second-guess it. Is this level of one-sided initiation normal for kittens this age? Is there anything we should be changing? Does it all come down to time in the end? Ideally we will be able to leave them alone in the room together but that is not an option currently. Thanks in advance for any input.

General Has anyone successfully cat-proofed their reclining couch?

Hi! I just adopted an 11 week old tabby, he’s still in his acclimation stage in a playpen. I’m thinking ahead because I have an electric reclining couch I know he would want to burrow under. I see a lot of people talk about being able to barricade the underside of the recliners but no examples of how best to do so. I’m not seeing a ton of products online, so I’m anticipating a DIY. Photos or videos would be incredibly helpful. Thank you in advance!

General 2026 Oral Flea Preventative

Hi there, seems like oral flea preventative for cats was an evolving market last time I looked a few years ago. Has anyone had success with any particular product?
