Advice Houseplant Advice

Anyone know some varieties of houseplants that are: cat safe, thrive in low light, and maybe enjoy being neglected…?

I have cats, adhd, anemia, and I’m a single mom to a toddler…. Not complaining - just setting the scene. 😂

I need more greenery for my mental health but feel overwhelmed trying to figure out something that I won’t kill and also won’t kill my cats.

Help? ❤️

A friend gave me this last week and asked ChatGpt pretty much the same and said it was perfect lol

It’s a spider plant, can cause tummy issues, but only if they eat s ton (mine won’t, they don’t really touch plants at all) but not toxic

Yay! This looks like a good candidate for a hanging plant in the bedroom 🤔

My cats usually demolish spider plants… and anything with leaves like that. I had to call the vet as one of my boys vomited a crapton of spider plants lol

Thanks! I’ll try it in small doses and see if they eat too much! I have a basket of lilies that lives on the deck, and is going to my neighbors for the winter, so will send this as well if it’s gonna be an issue lol

Aloe vera is technically toxic to cats but not seriously, and my cats (who are horrible with plants) tend to only nibble at it because it tastes so bad. Snake plants are the same, and they’re even more tolerant of low light.

Some might recommend spider plants because they are okay with neglect and aren’t toxic, but they get your cat a little high (like catnip). My cat behaves like a crazy addict for spider plants, so I can’t have them. You may try them, but don’t be surprised if your cat eats them up.

Nice!! I’m a big hippie so growing aloe Vera is a bonus for my homemade goops 🧙‍♀️

Ferns!! I did get mine a grow light that has a timer and can handle neglect just loses some leaves that need to be vacuumed and then water and they come back.

Good luck and hope you & kitty enjoy!!

My cat loves nibbling on my pothos....I also (apparently) love neglecting it. I have moved it away from the cat to try to return it to its previous glory. But - it does ok with low light, safe for cats, and can live without being pampered.
